#Chapter 66: Embracing One’s Nature

Olivia’s POV
When I arrived at the palace, I found Gabriel was still gone. The guards had alerted me that Gabriel would not be back till the morning due to business. They had also informed me that Gabriel left numbers for an interior designer to fix my office up.
I went to the office and notice that everything was still out of place and destroyed. I shut the door behind me, determined to deal with it another time. I went to my room and tried to mind- link with Eugene.
I want to hear his voice some recognition that he was still in the Capitol. However, I found he had tuned me out as I did the others. When I looked over at my nightstand, I saw a single white lily with a note attached to the stem. When I picked up the card, I fell to the ground, crying.
The note was in Eugene’s hand writing stating;
“You will make a beautiful Queen Luna, Olivia.”
I shed tears for the friendship that I lost because of my selfish actions. I scream ‘til my voice is numb for the marriage with a wonderful man that I ruined. Before I pass out, I whimper at the fact that I let Rebecca and her wolf down.
I wake up to hear a blaring sound of someone’s phone in my ear. I heard someone swear as they removed their arm from around me and reach over my form. The scent of rosemary and cedarwood hit my nostrils.
“Ga..briel,” I said straining my voice. I saw his eyes in the light from his celluar as he answered.
“Yes this is he.” There was a pause before someone started to speak.
“So the rumors are true. Are they offering to broker peace between the clan and pack?” Gabriel asked.
There was a pause before Gabriel shouted.
“So you woke me and my wife up in the middle on the night and your answer is “I don’t know.” Ask the negotiator that is speaking with the head of the clan and don’t call me back until you have an answer.”
Gabriel ended the call and put his phone on the nightstand by his side. We were in bed in our room.
“Gab—”
“Don’t the guards said you strained your voice and you could be hoarse. Drink what’s on the nightstand buy you and rest your voice.” I found a mug of what tasted like tea and drained the entire cup. When I was finished Gabriel took the cup from me and set it on the table.
Gabriel pulled me into him and buried his head in the nape of my neck. “While I do not forgive nor do I understand for what happened with you and Alpha Herold. I cannot see you in pain. It hurts us too much.”
I rolled my body over and gestured to the phone. Gabriel sided as he kissed the nape of my neck, making me pur.
“There were rumors that the vampires have finally found their master and they are planning a course to attack. I was gone trying to gather information and allies just in case this happens.” Gabriel said as he kissed the top of my head.
“I saw Alpha Herold there.” There was a pause. “I almost killed him, but I was not there for any type of altercation. He came to me and told me he took advantage of your state of intoxication.”
Gabriel told me that Herold had taken advantage of me during my drunken state. And while Gabriel did not believe his claims, Herold asked for forgiveness and for the Alpha King to forgive his mate for Herold’s desegregations.
Gabriel admitted he did not fully believe Herold, but he did not press the matter. Gabriel knew he had more to worry about. The Vampire King and his descendants had been dead for centuries. There had been no claim to the throne in years and now the rumors circulated he was going to come and wipe out packs.
While I slept in his arms, I knew he thought about how I was so alone for so long. Despite my betrayal, Gabriel knew I would not leave him. Between the love that we had shown one another that was unmatched. Not to mention the abuse that Eugene and Reese describe to him about Alpha Herold’s treatment of my past life.
I clarified that I did not know where I stood with any of the men in my life. Gabriel would by his time until I was ready.

Third Person POV
When the morning came Olivia and Gabriel sat in the garden and enjoyed breakfast. Gabriel made sure that everything was Olivia’s favorite. She smiled as she sat down and Gabriel made her plate.
“Why all of this,” she said. Thanks to the remedy, Olivia’s voice had come back. And Gabriel missed it, as well as her smile.
“I am glad to see your voice has healed.” Gabriel said as he took a sip of coffee.
“I have you and the medicine to thank. Normally, it would take a week to heal my voice.”
“My dear queen, the only time I want you to lose that sweet voice of yours is when you are at your peak with me buried inside you,” Gabriel growled.
Olivia pushed her hair from her face and quickly took a bite out of the fruit that was on her plate. Her face blossomed into a sea of red that stretch to her collarbone.
“So…has there been any news of the clan brokering a deal with the nation?” Olivia said, quickly changing the subject.
Gabriel eyed her before turning back to his food. “Not yet,” he said before taking a piece of omelet and eating it. “We are still trying to figure out who the Vampire King is.”
“I heard from wolves in my past say that the generation of vampires before were with the packs because of land and resources.”
Gabriel nodded. From time to time, the Vampire King would claim that they had rights to certain stomping grounds and the produce that was there.”
“Produce?” Olivia said in confusion. Then the notion made sense in her head. “Dear Goddess.”
“They wanted to harvest people in the area and keep land for themselves, but depending on the population, the late Alpha King and President had to step in and push them out. Their actions drew too much attention to themselves and us.”
Olivia nodded as she soaked up the knowledge. “Does anyone have any clues who the Vampire King might be?”
Gabriel shook his head. “None. We might be in the dark until he calls a meeting with us.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In the light, he had always valued himself as a giver of life, someone that would never do harm to others. He took the Hippocratic oath for a reason. Eugene sighed as he tossed the newspaper into the fire. Everything that he wanted was gone.
He put in his resignation to the hospital. He even abandoned the pack lands. He buried his wolf half deep inside of him, just like his love for her. He could not be a werewolf and stay loyal to them any longer.
As he walked into the room he saw others mingling with one another. Moans and hiss surrounded the area as Eugene made his way to the center office. Before he could knock the words “Enter” slid into his mind.
Eugene bowed went he entered the room and stepped into the center in front of the black wood desk.
“I see you finally came back to us all these years, Deputy Eugene.” The voice in the shadows purred with happiness.
“I am sorry that it took me so long I wanted to get my affairs in order. I was a medical practioner for so long I forgoed my other half. And I apologize for my neglence,” Eugene said not lifting his head.
“Raise my deputy. You did as we commanded you, and you gained the intel on the weakest Alpha in the nation. You found the drugs that were entering our coven and the pack lands. So your work was fortuitous indeed.” The voice moved forward to gaze upon Eugene.
Maverick was the newly appointed Vampire King of the realm. After the late king perished, many flock to the coveted title, but Maverick bided his time.
Standing at 5’10 with yellow wyes that many wolves would envy and over 400 years old Maverick gained the title and so much more. Dressed in black slack and a matching long sleeve shirt, Maverick sat at the desk drinking a glass of what Eugene thought to be at first glance wine.
“When was the last time you fed, Deputy?” Maverick said, looking at Eugene.
Eugene swallow deeply as he looked from the glass to his king. “I do not recall. When I was in the pack lands, I hunted like the others, even though I ever shifted in front of them. And I fed off donor blood until I changed residency to the Royal Hospital.”
Maverick passed the glass to Eugene, who bowed his head in gratitude before draining the glass. Blood. How long had it been since Eugene partook in the taste? How he longer to let the blood of his enemies spill on the floor before him.
“Thank you, sire.”
In the wolf pack under his brother Herold and the Alpha King Gabriel, Eugene was a well-renowned doctor and savior in their community. However, now since his disownment, Eugene was now the most powerful deputy of the Vampire King. He found out about his other half when he reached puberty. Like most wolves, he transformed. However, he also acquired a taste for blood.
It was Maverick that found Eugene late one night in the city limits, feeding on a salient that tried to abuse a young woman outside a club. Maverick caught him to hunt in secret, to make all feedings hidden from even the donor. He also taught Eugene how to hide his kills.
The late Vampire King gave Eugene a mission to stay in the wolf pack and gather intel. They charged him with getting a profession that would benefit both sides. Doctors could mend the bones and heal the illnesses of wolves. As a doctor, Eugene could also gather blood and have it shipped to the coven to establish Maverick’s claim to the throne.
After finding out that his brother had once again stolen the woman he loves, Eugene could not stay within the lands of wolves any longer. He joined the vampire coven because there was no use hiding any more.
He found the drug that was weakening the wolves and killing his vampire brother as well. His goal was always to aid Mavericks. However, after Herold’s obsession with Olivia became public, Eugene made a decision to change his goal.
