14. At The End Of Sunset

Taking a deep breath, they looked at each other for a moment. Then they both left the room. Their teammates escorted them to the field. Victoria's duties as the captain of the medical team would be carried out by her vice-captain, as would Sean's duties as the commander. Because they both had other tasks to do.

Not only did their colleagues and superiors escort them, but the news that Victoria would go straight to the battlefield and to a more dangerous area with Sean had also spread throughout the camp, causing the refugees to gather in the field.

"Sis Victoria, are you going there?" Marcelia approached Victoria as soon as she arrived at the field, as did the girl's younger brother.

Victoria could only smile.

"Can I come with you?"

"Hey!" Victoria scolded. "Instead of coming with us, stay guard here. Learn the things you can do to protect others," Victoria said to Marcelia and her younger brother. "Many people need you here, so stay healthy and train, okay."

The siblings could only nod their heads.

Not only Marcelia and her sister, but other residents also accompanied Victoria and Sean's departure with sweet words, as well as prayers and hopes that they would stay safe and return safely.

The farewell was quite touching, there were still many who cared and hoped that they would stay there, but the decision was final, so it was no longer possible to stop them.

They got into a car that had been specially prepared. Sean would drive and take turns. It was still daytime, and they were expected to arrive at night. They didn't want to risk fighting at night, and of course, the daytime would be worse. They had to be ready for anything that happened.

After getting ready to leave, Victoria opened the car window and waved to the people who were still seeing them off with sad faces.

"I'm not used to this kind of farewell," Victoria said as they exited the camp gate.

"That's it. We're like heroes who will conquer the villain," Sean added.

Victoria laughed.

"That's the reality," the girl replied with a sigh.

They both fell silent, Victoria was a little wary, while Sean drove at full speed when he reached the dangerous area. After all, they would face the creatures again.

“They will come because of the sound of the car, so stay alert,” Sean ordered.

Victoria nodded. The girl’s eagle eyes were alert, glancing right and left.

The car entered a fairly chaotic area. Vehicles were scattered, buildings were damaged, and several other things.

“Don’t look at them, Vic,” Sean reprimanded when Victoria saw the bodies of residents lying on the road.

“I know,” the girl replied in a low voice.

“They’re coming. Wait!” Sean shouted as a reminder.

Victoria obeyed and held on tightly. The creatures came charging at the car Sean was driving, charging at the car and even some of them hit it.

“Damn. There are too many of them,” Sean cursed a little.

The creatures kept coming, charging at the car, blocking Sean’s view.

“What should we do?” Victoria asked.

The creatures tried to break the glass. The sound of gurgling like bells also disturbed Sean and Victoria’s ears, making them both wince.

"Try shooting something, Vic. We have to get rid of them first," Sean said.

Victoria obeyed and looked for the shooting button available on the car's dashboard. One shot, two, and several shots managed to get rid of the strange creatures, but because the sound of the gunshots attracted more small monsters to come closer, Sean was overwhelmed and almost crashed into a building.

The sound of gunshots coming from outside the car saved them. The car was bulletproof so it was safe when the continuous shots hit their car. Several soldiers were seen outside the car opening fire, helping Sean and Victoria.

“Go. We’ll block them here,” shouted one of the soldiers on duty there.

Victoria nodded, as did Sean and immediately stepped on the gas again.

“Stay safe, and come back safely,” shouted another.

“You too!” replied Victoria.

Along the road past the area where the attack took place, there were several soldiers assigned. It seemed like they heard, and maybe even got orders to help as they passed. Thanks to that help, Sean was able to drive safely because the noise made by the other soldiers distracted the creatures.

However, even so, along the way, Victoria also often fired shots from the top of the car. They couldn’t move yet. Sean’s driving speed and Victoria’s alertness in shooting made them unknowingly pass through an isolated area.

“We’re entering the blue zone, Se,” said Victoria when she saw a round, slimy creature of medium and large size.

“I know. Get ready to shoot, Vic,” said Sean.

Victoria replied with a small mumble and started shooting at the large creature.

“Damn. They’re so immune. Their speed is not like the small ones, but still disgusting,” Victoria said to herself while still focusing on shooting the specially designed car roof.

“How about we try a grenade, Vic?” Sean asked.

“Grenade? Good idea. I’ll try it. They’re annoying,” Victoria said and took a grenade that had been given a secret liquid.

Victoria threw the grenade into the middle of the strange creatures, and in a matter of seconds, there was a loud explosion. Victoria cheered, but it wasn’t over yet because she had to shoot the strange creatures again.

“There are too many of them,” Victoria complained, finally exhausted.

“Hang in there, the sun is going down soon. We’ll reach a safe point soon,” Sean said.

Once again Victoria obeyed and began shooting the approaching strange creatures. Sean’s gaze was fixed forward, occasionally looking towards the sunset. They were about to cross the river. On the bridge there was a sign of a barrier, Sean squinted because the barrier suddenly moved. Sean finally understood that it was a gate with wires.

As the sun set, Sean managed to get through the wire door, and the door immediately closed. The strange creatures were trapped there, not a few were electrocuted by the wire door. Victoria fired the last shot when one strange creature that was quite large managed to escape through the wire door.

Their breaths were both short. They were now at a safe point, just crossing the river and arriving at the place marked as the hiding place of the three soldiers. Victoria and Sean looked at each other as they stopped the car, and turned off the lights and engine. Suddenly Victoria approached Sean and hugged the man.

"We did it," Victoria said happily.

"Yes, we got past them," Sean replied.

"Yes."

Although the attacks from the strange creatures were relentless and almost made Victoria give up, they managed to get through it safely, even though the car was damaged. They had to be careful when getting out because there was poisonous slime on the car's body.
