22. Get ready
Before they could do anything, a loud bang was heard from a distance, and the place they were standing shook. They looked at each other, wondering what was happening.
"Oh no! We're too late," Luna said while staring at the screen in her hand. "They appeared, the loud noise came from the crashed ship, and the signal is out of control," Luna continued to inform.
Roberta looked at Victoria, making sure that the girl was ready.
"Quick, Rob! They're coming out," Luna shouted again to inform.
"We have no choice. You have to get ready, Victoria," Robert finally said.
Sean, Daniel, Nathan, and Maria looked at Victoria who was still silent. Now they knew who could penetrate the eternal fire that protected the mothership.
The vibrations were still felt, even stronger. The loud noise sounded more deafening. Luna monitored the developments through the technological screen she brought. The situation out there was getting more chaotic, there was no choice for to make a plan more freely. Their time was now running out.
Both Victoria and the others prepared to come out of hiding. Now they plunged into the battlefield to fight the strange creatures that were increasingly emerging.
Nathan as the previous team commander sent news to every military base in the area to increase surveillance and stay alert because there was a possibility that the creatures could reach their place quickly, breaking through the defense because their numbers were quite large so they could be repelled longer.
"Okay. We meet again. Good luck, Victoria. Sorry, we're counting on you," Nathan said as they prepared to leave the hideout.
Because there were Luna and Robert, it was easier for them to get out of hiding by breaking through the wall. There was no time to worry about anything else, so they scattered.
"See you later. So, hang in there. Good luck," Sean said before they left.
"Yes. You too," Victoria replied.
They were divided into three teams. Nathan and Maria, Daniel and Sean, while Victoria followed Robert and Luna to go to the plane. Luna who understood more technology had to stay near Victoria. Robert himself had the power to protect Victoria when leaving her hideout.
They would start working hard. Time kept moving forward, it would never wait. They were running out of time if they delayed any longer, it would cause new problems.
Victoria herself felt unsure but had to try. They arrived at the mother ship with a radius of about seven meters. From where they stood, the heat of the fire that protected the ship felt so burning, but strangely Victoria looked normal.
"Your body temperature is cold," Luna said to Victoria.
They were in a state of disappearance so the strange green slimy creatures did not realise their presence there. Victoria counted the creatures.
"Wear this," Luna said. "I will give instructions through the earphones you wear. I installed a small camera on your uniform so you only need to enter. However, be careful. We can't be sure what's there," Luna continued while attaching a small camera to Victoria.
After finishing, they still monitored the situation. The ball-shaped ship began to glide towards Earth. In a matter of minutes, the ship's door opened, and more creatures came out. Several ball ships landed around there, and Victoria was speechless at how fast they moved.
"You have to be ready, Victoria," said Luna who had been monitoring the surroundings through her technology screen.
Victoria woke up from her reverie and turned to Luna.
"The fire will be out in ten minutes. But as you can see, there are quite a few creatures guarding," Luna explained.
Victoria looked around once more. The strange creatures were large and guarding right near the plane.
"Use this to attack the big one," Robert said, handing him a gun.
Victoria looked at him.
"There's a special liquid we made inside the bullets, but not much. You have to rely on yourself to get in there," Robert said.
"And if I'm already there, can I get out?" Victoria asked.
But Robert was silent.
Noticing Robert's silence, and Luna's busyness, Victoria finally understood what the bad news was. After all, there must always be sacrifices, right?
If Victoria's sacrifice could save many people who were fighting on the battlefield against aliens, there would be no regrets. But one thing, the girl's feelings.
“Are you ready, Victoria?” Luna asked.
Victoria, who was still silent, did not answer. Her mind suddenly became chaotic.
“I’ll count to five. We’ll guard from here and help you get in. You just run, and keep protecting yourself,” Luna said, not caring about what Victoria thought. “Unless you want humanity to be destroyed, that’s fine. We’ll stay here longer if you as a human lose,” Luna continued, slightly threatening.
“Please don’t force it, Luna,” Robert said, stopping Luna’s angry ranting.
Luna’s sharp gaze was directed at Robert.
“Then, do you want to stay here? I don’t want to. I want to go home,” Luna said.
“But…”
“I will. So you have to help me,” Victoria interrupted, stopping the argument that was about to happen between Luna and Robert. “When should I run?” the girl asked.
“On the count of five. You have to run as fast as you can, then I will protect you from here. But remember, the fire temperature is only ten minutes, so be careful when entering through the fire," Luna explained.
Victoria just nodded. Ready to do her job and break through the creatures on guard.
"Okay. Let's start. One, two, three, four... who are you?" Luna asked.
Victoria nodded and was ready to run.
"Robert. Open the door and get ready to shoot," Luna warned Robert.
Robert himself seemed ready to protect Victoria from behind because they couldn't get close to the eternal fire. If they got too close, they would melt from the heat.
Victoria took a deep breath, ready to run according to Luna's instructions.
"You can do it, Vic. Trust me. We'll support you from here." Sean spoke through their communication device so that Victoria wouldn't worry too much.
"After this war is over. Let's go on a double date Vic, it'll be fun," Maria said with her typical joke.
That made Victoria a little better.
"Fight. The world depends on you, we are here with you, Victoria." Daniel seemed not to want to miss out on encouraging the girl.
"I will also say something. But, just one word, keep going!" Nathan also expressed his support.
Victoria knew that they were also fighting against the strange creatures that were increasingly coming.
"Yes. You guys hold on. I will do my best," replied Victoria who this time was more confident in her task.
"Of course," replied Maria.
"See you," said Victoria.
"Come back, Victoria," Sean said for the last time before Robert opened and released his transparent barrier.
Victoria ran with all her might while shooting. The temperature of the eternal fire was not too hot when Victoria approached, but the problem was, that the strange creatures that were large blocked Victoria, even attacking her until the girl fell to the ground making the creatures charge towards her.
"Victoria!" shouted Luna because the creatures were increasingly covering Victoria.
Robert himself looked overwhelmed, and so did Luna. What happened? What happened to Victoria?
