18. Big Bet

Victoria glanced around her which felt so strange. Robert took her to a place that was not far from a large river.

"Where is this?" asked Victoria.

"On our plane," replied Robert.

"Us?" Victoria realised something was wrong.

Not long after, footsteps were heard approaching, and Victoria immediately raised her weapon to attack, right towards the face of another figure who came. Automatically the person raised his hand.

"You don't need to worry," said Robert approaching Victoria and looking at the person who came. "This is my partner, her name is Luna," he said.

Still alert he points his weapon at the figure named Luna. Victoria realised the change that Luna showed her. Just like when Robert showed his invisible face to be visible.

"Are you a robot too?" asked Victoria.

Luna's sharp gaze which was also bright blue was directed at Robert. Unlike Robert, Luna looked cold.

Victoria lowered her weapon and put it away properly.

"Sorry for what I just did," said Victoria with a straight body and lowered her head.

"It's okay," answered Luna briefly and just passed Victoria.

Robert, who was still beside Victoria, did not comment much, just watched them both in silence. After that, Robert invited Victoria to enter the plane. Its shape was indeed not like the strange creature's planes which were round like a ball. However, Robert's plane was like a plane in general, only the inside looked different. Victoria was amazed.

"Come in," said Robert.

Victoria followed Robert who went further into the plane. Inside the plane, there was a lot of very sophisticated technology, even beyond the technology that Victoria usually saw. The plane could also disappear so that no one could see it during the day.

In the cabin, Luna sat quietly, fiddling with the buttons in front of her, and there was a screen that showed something like a coordinate point or signal.

"Sit down," said Robert while offering Victoria a chair.

Following Robert's words, Victoria sat awkwardly. But the girl still couldn't divert her attention from the very different technology inside the plane.

"Why did you bring this idiot human?" Luna's voice sounded loud.

That's when Victoria realized.

"Can I ask you something?" asked Victoria.

Robert looked at the girl and nodded.

"Sorry if I asked rudely. What are you guys? What kind of robots?" asked Victoria again.

There was no answer, either from Luna or Robert, but Luna seemed to dislike Victoria and even seemed reluctant to talk to the girl. So Victoria looked at Robert.

"You're a male robot, right?" asked Victoria before getting an answer from the two robots.

"You can think like that. We are artificial robots that can resemble humans, and can disappear, or become invisible, like what you experienced earlier," replied Robert.

"The ones that resemble and disappear?" Victoria looked surprised.

"Yes, like this," Robert touched the bluish wall, and at that moment his face changed to resemble the wall of the plane. "Depending on what we touch, what we see, and what we want, that's what we can sleep with," he continued explaining.

"So, why are you in human form?" Victoria still couldn't understand what Robert was explaining.

It was hard to believe it in a short time, and Victoria seemed confused about how to respond because what had just happened had shocked her.

“Because we see, and touch humans, that’s why we’re human. We don’t have a gender, but when you say I’m a man, I feel like one,” Robert admitted and chuckled strangely. His voice sounded very melodious.

“I see,” Victoria murmured.

The girl looked around again to look around and noticed what was there.

“They’re expanding their territory, Rob. We have to act soon, or things will get out of control,” Luna said suddenly.

Robert and Victoria’s attention was diverted to Luna who was focusing on the screen in front of her. The two of them approached, and Victoria just realized that the screen was floating, looking transparent. On the screen was a video of small strange creatures running around, moving at high speed, expanding their attack territory, and increasingly entering the border area. If they continued to be neglected, then the refugee camp and the military would be threatened.

“Their speed increased?” Victoria looked surprised.

“Yes, they were controlled by the plane that landed first,” Luna said.

Victoria’s brows furrowed upon hearing Luna’s words.

“They were controlled?”

“Yes. But the control is on that plane, and it can’t be bypassed for now. On the contrary, we’re the ones who are having a hard time,” Robert said.

Victoria was surprised and looked at the two humanoid robots in turn.

“You too?”

It was Luna and Robert’s turn to look at Victoria at the same time after hearing her comment.

“Why? Just because we’re robots doesn’t mean we’re not dangerous?” Luna said sarcastically.

Victoria looked surprised to hear Luna’s words.

“That’s not what I meant,” the girl defended herself, becoming nervous because of Luna’s words.

The situation was now awkward, and there was no more conversation apart from monitoring the moving screen in front of them.

The strange creatures had indeed expanded their attack range. Not only one, two or even five residents who became victims were monitored from the screen. Victoria frowned repeatedly, her eyes moved restlessly and she couldn’t help but just watch the residents who became victims.

“Where? I want to!” Victoria said, surprising Robert and Luna.

Victoria turned around, ready with her weapon in hand. Robert immediately blocked the girl’s path.

“What are you doing? I have to go!” Victoria shouted angrily.

“You can’t do that, Victoria,” Robert said.

“Why not? I have to do that and finish off those damn creatures!” Victoria said.

“Whatever it is, you won’t be able to stop it. So listen to me, and calm down,” Robert pleaded.

“How long should I wait and make plans? While the people out there are being targeted by them? How can I stay calm here and watch that?”

“Then go. It won’t change anything,” Luna said coldly. Luna instead folded her arms and stood casually staring at Victoria whose breath was panting with anger.

“What do you mean?” Victoria asked.

“As you heard. It doesn’t change anything. If you leave now and become their prey, it’s the same as sacrificing all of humanity,” Luna said again.

Whatever Luna meant, Victoria slowly calmed down and tried to understand what Luna said.

What did she mean if Victoria went and died, all of humanity would die too? It took Victoria a moment to understand Luna's intentions.

"While you're thinking about it, we'll prepare something. So think about it, you idiot," Luna said mockingly as she walked away from the girl.

Come on, think about it, if Victoria fell prey to those strange creatures, and the entire Earth was at stake? Does that make sense? However, does that mean Victoria is the key?
