21- Taking care of the child
Cassandra," Sebastian spoke, coming from the bathrooms and standing in front of the woman's
desk.
-Yes, sir?
-Come with me to my office.
"What did I do now?" wondered the young woman as she followed him from behind.
-What do you need sir?
The CEO leaned against his desk and pressed his hands together frowning taking deep
breaths, trying to gather his strength to speak from sincerity.
-First, please don't call me "sir", "Mr. Aller" and those things, you can call me Sebastian," he
said in the softest way he could say things.
Helena was surprised by this, as if her boss wanted to shorten the distance between them
now that he had seen his younger brother hovering around the redhead.
-He's fine... .... Sebastian...-it sounded weird to say, I didn't think I could get used to it.
The CEO smiled sideways in satisfaction and Helena thought he looked funny smiling, like
he was making all the effort in the world to look more human.
Listen Helena .... You must tell me what my brother told you.....
The redhead raised an eyebrow in surprise, she could see the annoyance in Sebastian's
hard expression. They really hated each other.
-She didn't tell me anything important Mr...I mean Sebastian.... We just crossed paths by
chance and she was nice to me.
Sebastian sighed in relief, as if a weight was lifted off his shoulders.
-All right, I know he seems charismatic and charming- he rolled his eyes- But in reality he's a
complete jerk....
"That's what he said about you" thought the secretary, not knowing who to believe, or maybe
the answer would be neither of them.
-As you say" she answered automatically, getting ready to leave the office.
-Wait... -Sebastian shortened the distance and took her by the hand, just as Alan had done-
-Seriously Helena, if he talks to you or does anything to you, you must tell me.
Helena gaped, staring at her boss's serious and worried expression, looking for signs that
this was all a joke between the brothers. Why was she so suspicious of her own brother, and
why was her boss worried about her like that? What he does or doesn't do was her problem,
he should take care of his wife. But in order not to generate any more unpleasantness he
simply nodded silently and walked out.
Sebastian stood with his arm outstretched, as if Helena was still there and clenched his fist
tightly, he felt fear and a helplessness run through his body and for a moment he wanted to
throw Katlyn on top of Alan to get the fuck out of his life, but no. She wouldn't make it easy
on him, she didn't want to leave everything to the man and have him finally win.
Helena walked up the stairs of the old apartment where she lived, gazing off into the
distance, thinking about what had happened only a short while ago.
"That familiar voice, where did I know her from?" she couldn't get that doubt that was
gnawing at her insides out of her mind.
Just when she thought she could recognize where she knew him from, that Alan's silhouette
joined with a faceless silhouette that hovered in her mind, she arrived at her apartment,
finding her neighbor at the door of her apartment talking seriously with a woman and a man
dressed in suits, she hurried to get there, wishing that meeting had nothing to do with her
little brother. The nanny saw her arrive before she could speak.
-Oh, hello Helena, these people are looking for you," exclaimed the lady, entering the house
again.
The woman didn't give Helena time to understand what was going on, she simply ran away
leaving her alone with those two strangers.
-What do you need?
-Miss Helena DeLuna, is the infant Lucas DeLuna your brother?
-Yes, that's right. Is something wrong with him?
The woman, whose face was stretched and tense, took out of her jacket a card that looked
like an identification card.
-We're from social services, we're here to check that the child is in good hands, we know that
his father has recently died and that you are his current guardian?
-I am, I am taking care of the child," she exclaimed almost growling.
They both looked at each other in silence, as if they were speaking by telepathy. Helena
moved her hands nervously and rested one on her flat belly.
-We know he has a money problem and that the child is not at home all day and that his
health problems have been getting worse," she said.
-I have it all under control, he has tests every week, he has a trusted babysitter, he goes to
school and in the afternoon he is back with me, I don't understand what this is all about.
-Don't take it as a threat, but we make sure that children left without parents have the best
childhood possible, they need containment in a situation like this, have you been to a
psychologist? Have you talked to the school about how he is doing?
-I eh....
Helena didn't know what to answer, they were right, with everything that had happened to
her she had put her little brother on the back burner, being unable to put herself in the place
of the mother she needed so much. What if they found out she was pregnant? Would they
take her brother away from her because of it? And if she had the baby would they take him
away from her too? A feeling of emptiness washed over her.
-This is just a visit, but if things don't change we're going to have to move the child to
responsible guardians. You will be able to visit him whenever you like and .....
-I am a responsible adult! There is no one but me who can raise this child better. I am his
only family!
-Calm down, Miss, if you do everything right, you have nothing to worry about.
And they left, leaving her alone in the cold old hallway, she felt a pain in her stomach and
knew she had to run to the bathroom to vomit, the baby that was growing in her womb was
screaming not to be forgotten and Helena wanted to jump out the window.
