39 - The heiress
Helena looked out the window of Erik's car as the mansion where she had known happiness, made love for the first time and conceived her beloved son was slowly receding from her sight, probably forever.
-Are you okay?- The young man's soft and worried voice was heard in the silence of the night.
Helena did not turn to him, she was not able to speak or look at him, she still could not believe that everything that was happening was real, she wanted someone to wake her up from this nightmare.
She felt Erik's hand come to rest on hers and squeeze it lovingly.
"Let's get out of this," she exclaimed into the air.
Helena wanted to believe him, but she wasn't sure she could get over this, she had lost the love of her life or at least the person she had believed Ivan to be, but it had all been a lie. That person had never existed, he had only been a mask.
Time passed and they were getting further and further away from the city, the young woman turned to Erik confused.
-We are not going to go to the main house, it would be suicide if we stayed there, for the moment it is best to hide from Grupo Sol where they cannot track us.
Helena nodded in agreement as she caressed her belly.
“Everything is to keep my baby safe,” she thought to herself.
They arrived at a beautiful wooden house on the outskirts of the city that was hidden by a large amount of leafy trees that kept away unwanted eyes.
"We're here," the young man exclaimed, getting out of the car first and helping Helena down, taking her hand.
-Is…. "Beautiful," she exclaimed, thinking about how nice it would have been to share a place like that with Ivan. With so much work they had not had time to take a vacation alone.
She shook her head vigorously, pushing the thoughts away from her.
“That doesn't matter anymore, that life no longer exists,” she said to herself, breathing deeply through her nose and following behind Erik towards her new life.
"Feel at home... you can choose the room you want, then I'll choose mine," the young man exclaimed, taking off his jacket. "Tomorrow my staff will be in charge of bringing a whole new set of clothes and everything you need to settle in." Anything you want you can tell me.
Helena did not respond, sitting fully on the couch and looking at her own feet as if they were the most interesting thing in the world. She felt the couch sink next to her.
"Are you okay?" He asked worried.
"I'm still trying to process everything that just happened," he said in a low voice.
-I know you loved him... I really tried to prevent you from going that far, I didn't want you to suffer Helena...
-Did you always know?
Erik nodded his head.
-I wanted to tell you the first time we met, but then Ivan... and then you believed that my family had killed your parents...
-I can't believe it's been the Whites all this time. "I should have distrusted Ivan's father, he never had good intentions," she exclaimed embarrassed.
Erik felt with his head and caressed Helena's back.
-Since when did you know that I...?- asked the young woman.
"You were my sister?" He smiled sideways. "Since I was little I knew the truth, my father, I mean... Our father was in charge of cultivating my resentment for the Sol family, that I knew that they had murdered my sister and her mother." . But then... - he looked to the side, as if remembering something from the past - One day I saw you... I was shocked, you are just like your mother Helena... Father had shown me a photo of her and I started to think that maybe you hadn't died.
Helena watched her brother carefully, feeling her honey eyes become moist. She couldn't believe that she had a younger brother. It was what she had always dreamed of, but now it seemed like a damn curse.
-I began to investigate thoroughly without my father knowing and I discovered that in reality your death certificate had been falsified, then I knew it was you- he exclaimed with excitement in his eyes- but then...- his face became gloomy- You met Ivan and he beat me to it and the rest is history….
Helena leaned back against the back of the couch.
-I can't believe that he deceived me so much...-she said with pain- I really believed him, everything...
Erik felt terrible, he wanted to hug her sister, he had dreamed so much about that day, but now he was not able to do it, he knew that he was still a stranger to her.
-He must have found out the same way I did, when he saw me talking to you, maybe he was afraid that I would get ahead of myself and...
-Will you take me with you to be your ally? Or rather your bait to destroy Grupo Sol?
-No Helena! "My plan was not to use you," she exclaimed desperately. "I just… I just wanted to have you back, where you belong."
"I never belonged to this, Erik, my family is dead, the mafia killed them, the dispute between the two groups," he said with contempt, feeling thick, bitter tears falling down his face. "I didn't ask for this," he said, covering his face with her hands.
-Oh Helena... - Erik exclaimed, daring to hug her - I know, believe me, neither did I, I never wanted to be part of this, but since you were supposedly dead, I had to be the heir - he sighed heavily - You know... for a long time I resented you. , I really hated that you could be free of all that, even if you were dead.
Helena uncovered her face and bitterly wiped away her tears.
-Why are you still here if this is not what you want?
-It's not that easy.
Helena laughed sarcastically - Ivan said the same thing - she said with pain.
-It's the truth... Actually, now that you are here, all this is yours, with our father murdered, his place belongs to you.
"Oh no," she exclaimed, suddenly getting up from the couch. "Forget it, Erik."
The young man got up and followed her throughout the living room.
-It's your position Helena, he always has been, I've only been taking care of him for you-
Helena shook her head and crossed her arms, she didn't want to hear it. Just at that moment something alerted her, some soft taps were felt on her belly that made her stop suddenly. Erik almost collided with her back when he realized that her sister had stopped suddenly.
-Helena... Are you okay? What happen? "Are you hurt?" He asked, surrounding her.
Erik noticed how Helena held her belly in her hands. He hadn't noticed it until that moment, but the young woman's belly was slightly inflated.
-Helena you...
"Yes," she answered in a trance. Her son, her little one, was there, wanting to get her mother's attention, reminding her why she did all that.
Erik fell sitting on the floor in front of his sister, looking at a fixed point on the floor.
"Does he know?" He asked scared.
-Not…
"Well, well..." he exclaimed, feeling her lungs fill with air again and he regained some of the color in her face. "And Helena has to continue like this." He can't know that you are expecting his child, if he finds out...
"Do you think he would be able to do something to her?" He asked in panic.
-I... I don't know, but you know how dangerous they can be. Now we are at a disadvantage, they know we lost our leader and our allies will most likely step aside.
Helena crouched in front of her brother and lifted her face.
"Erik..." she exclaimed, drawing the attention of her brother who raised her face. "We can't lose, you have to think about your nephew," she exclaimed in panic.
Erik looked up and nodded.
Now he had a family to protect.
-Let's get ready Helena... we're going to come back, but this time stronger, they have to know who they messed with.
