46 - To the rescue

Nick locked all the doors and windows of the cabin. He turned off all the lights that were not necessary and that could draw the attention of his enemies. They needed to lay low as best as possible until things calmed down.

Out of the corner of his eye he saw Helena getting up from the wheelchair with her child in her arms.

-What are you doing? "Don't get up," he exclaimed alarmed.

The young mother ignored him and handed her baby, who was now sleeping peacefully between blankets, to the woman who would help take care of her. Erik had taken care of having everything necessary at home to care for the child while they were hidden, and that included help with parenting.

"Please take good care of him while I'm gone," the young woman asked.

The older woman took the little one and Helena approached to give him a soft kiss on her forehead. Then the employee took him to the upper floor.

Nick raised his eyebrows in confusion.

-While you're gone? What are you talking about Helena?

The young woman walked to the bathroom and opened the first aid kit, took two painkillers and swallowed them in one go. That way she would be able to bear the new scar on her body.

"I'm not going to let my brother die," she said, taking her coat.

"No, no, no, no way," Nick exclaimed, standing in front of the door with his arms outstretched.

"I'm not going to let your brother do anything to Erik," he said harshly as he opened the palm of his hand toward one of his men guarding the house.

The man took a gun out of his pocket and handed it to the young woman. Nick exclaimed excitedly, it was crazy and a very bad idea.

"Helena, Ivan is a victim just like us," he exclaimed desperately, clinging to the door.

"Then you should accompany me and rescue your brother," he said while checking that the gun had bullets.

-You're going straight into the den of the wolf, Helena. My father must be waiting for you to show up.

-And that is what I will do, I don't think he will kill me without first finding out where the heir of the Luna Group is. It would be in vain to get rid of me without that information.

Helena advanced towards the door. "Step aside Nick," she exclaimed, her gaze harsh.

The young man shook his head strongly, although he could feel the sweat of nervousness falling down his forehead at the threatening look that his sister-in-law was sending him.

"I'm not going to move, I don't want you to die," he exclaimed with a lump in his throat. "I've screwed up enough with my friend..." he said, looking away tearfully.

Instead of feeling compassion or pity for him, the young woman raised the gun and pointed it right at her brother-in-law's chest, pressing hard against her clothes.

-Step aside Nick. If you are still cowardly enough to run away one more time, go away, I won't chase you. But let me go for Erik and also for your brother.

I would be lying if I said that her sister-in-law's words weren't a dagger to her heart, but even though it hurt her, they were true. He had run from him his entire life and planned to do so once again. But the young woman's look full of determination and courage gave him that little push that he was missing to finally take charge of her actions.

Nick grabbed the barrel of the gun that was still being pointed at her chest and lowered it.

-I'm going with you, I don't want you to go alone.

-I'm not going alone, I'm going with my men.

-Even so….

-Are you sure Nick? -She said now, calmer and with maternal concern- You don't have to do it. I promise to help your brother if he is really in danger too and he is not a part of all this.

Nick took her sister-in-law's shoulders and now he looked at her with determination.

-I'll go with you, it's my decision.

Helena tried to search the dark gaze of her brother-in-law, which reminded her of her lover, for some trace of fear or doubt, but the only thing she found was a mature look, as if the young man had suddenly aged years.

"If things get dangerous, please just leave," she asked him. "Do you promise, Nick?"

-I promise.
Helena sighed in relief and put the gun away under her clothes.

"I'm sorry I targeted you," she said embarrassed.

Nick laughed amused. "I think she needed it to react," she exclaimed smiling, spreading her smile to her sister-in-law.

Then her expression faded, giving way to a serious grimace.

-Let's go then.

-Come on.

---

Mr. White was observing the darkness of the night through the large window of his office when one of his men knocked on the front door before looking out.

"What's happening?" He asked in a calm tone and without turning around.

-They are close, sir.

-Well, remember that I want her alive and I want my son too, with the others do as you please.

-Yes sir.

Helena was not surprised when they arrived at the entrance to the Sol group's mansion and found a crowd of men in suits with weapons of all kinds who had anticipated their arrival.

She felt Nick tense next to her and he placed her hand on his.

-Don't worry, your father is crazy, but not crazy enough to kill his own son.

"And you?" He said worried.

-If someone is going to kill me, I'm sure he's going to want to do it with his own hands. I don't think he wants anyone other than him to do it.

That did not relax the bewildered expression on the young man's face.

-It's part of the plan Nick, otherwise we wouldn't be able to get so close. –Helena watched as her cars stopped and her men got out and ran toward her goals. “Okay, let's go,” she ordered, forcefully taking her brother-in-law's hand. “Stay safe, okay?”

"Okay," he responded and left with the young woman. – You too, please.

---

"It's useless, the restraints are very hard," Erik exclaimed in frustration, feeling his teeth burn with pain from trying to cut the ropes from Ivan's wrists without success.

Ivan felt that he would go crazy at any moment, both had heard how from one moment to the next the silence of the great house had been filled with detonations of weapons one after another. The Luna Group had broken into the White house to recover their leader, what the raven man could not know was whether or not Helena was among them and that had him overwhelmed.

"We can't stay here like two useless people until they come to shoot us when we are no longer useful to them," Erik growled, kicking the wall hard.

Ivan thought and thought, until the only possible option came to his mind.

He took his thumb with one of his hands and closed his eyes tightly.

-That? What are you doing? - Erik asked with confusion.

"Breaking my thumb," he responded as if it were the most normal thing in the world.

Erik was about to scream in scandal, but he closed his mouth and began to sweat, knowing that he would also have to do the same if he wanted to have his hands available to fight.

Ivan clenched his jaw and took a deep breath before pressing with all his might on the bone of his thumb, pushing it into his hand, making it smaller.

-Ahhh!-He shouted, grunting loudly.

Erik closed his eyes and felt himself break down.

Finally, Ivan was able to slide the rope through his hand, freeing himself from his bondage. He took several deep breaths before replacing his finger with another cry of pain. Erik saw the red and sweaty face of his enemy as she approached him.

"Do you do it or do I do it?" asked young White.

Erik swallowed heavily.

-M-you better do it.
