Chapter 42 Empty space.

Empty space.
Jordan was dazed at the voice that spoke. He seemed to be sure that someone set that ward on fire because of the patient who was there before.
He carefully turned and came face to face with the Medical director of the hospital. This was the same doctor he had met and asked him to forbid any other medical personnel besides the one he would recommend.
And when the patient woke up, he was the one who called him to come around. When he died and when the autopsy result came out, he was the one who had called him.
He looked at the expressionless face of the doctor and knew he was unhappy. He was feeling bad that such a thing was happening in his hospital.
"I'm sorry Doctor Temple. For all that has happened, I am sorry. For all the losses and damage caused, put it to my account. I will surely pay.
For the patients who were frightened by what has happened, I am sorry. I can assure you that something like this wouldn't happen again" Jordan assured him.
The man just stared at Jordan and finally nodded. "I guess some bandits were here just a few minutes ago, the surveillance camera detected their presence.
I just checked and couldn't recognise any of them. To why they set that room on fire, I don't know. Is this hospital safe for me and my patients now?" Temple asked a rhetorical question.
If those men successfully sneaked in and killed a patient under the close watch of armed men and got away with it.
Came back again and sneaked into the same room and set it on fire and escaped. If they come to that hospital to kill or abduct a patient, they definitely would still get away without a scratch.
He can't risk the lives of the innocent people under his custody. They came to be treated and get better not to meet with their end or get entangled with life threatening circumstances.
What about his own life as well. The lives of his patients are more important to him than his own life. But his life is more important to his family as well.
This was getting more complicated than he had imagined and there's nothing he can do about it.
"I know why they put fire in that ward. But like I said, I am sorry. This isn't going to happen again. And I am sure of the assurance I am giving to you because once those bandits are thrown into jail, there wouldn't be a chance to be free again" Jordan promised.
Tina sighed audibly. The deed had been done. They needed to apprehend those rascals as soon as possible before it got much more complicated.
"Can we have a copy of the surveillance recording?" Tina Requested. They might be able to see a face that they recognize or would hunt for.
This was going to make their work easier than they thought. The doctor nodded and led the way to his office.
They saw those bandits but alas, they couldn't be recognized. They had Walked with their backs to the surveillance.
They knew where the camera was located and knew also that they might be traced or recognized from it.
"Send the expenses to my email and I will get back to you in less than 24 hours" Jordan declared and stood up.
Tina squinted. Why is Jordan assuring the doctor as if he was going to pay from his account? He should assure him of compensation but not to be certain when it would be paid.
He pulled Tina up and held her intertwining his fingers with her in a subconscious mind. They walked out and Jordan seemed to realise he was holding her in a way that sends questions to the brain.
"Sorry" he said and released her hand. Tina shrugged and asked " Are you intending to pay the compensation for the damages from your pocket?" She asked, she's yet to know why he assured the doctor confidently.
"Yes," Jordan answered and walked with his head straight and his eyes focused on their paths. He knows why she asked, but that has been his manner of doing things.
He might write to demand for his money back from the government or might just let go. He doesn't really get freaked with money.
"But that's inappropriate" Tina commented and Jordan nodded. "I do that sometimes Tina, just to get what I want and get the job done" he replied to her.
Tina was speechless.
They walked out together and went to the parking lot to get Jordan's car.
When they got there, they stood there and stared at the empty space where Jordan's car was supposedly parked.
"... good boys. I knew you could do it and now you have proven yourself competent at a simple task.
Now, like I had instructed, plant the bombs and lure him down. Once he gets there, don't spare him, blow the bastard off and let him rest in pieces... the caller instructed.
He looked into an empty space and grinned wickedly. Pieces are where such people like him should rest. Such a stubborn fellow who thinks the work of a detective was all that mattered in this life.
The ears that have refused to hear will be with the head, when the head will be cut off.
Such things happened to adamant and strong headed detectives who thought they were made detectives from heaven.
He was ready to pay him handsomely and get the whole case twisted. Let that poor thing rot in jail. After all, when he was free, he was too poor to be useful to anyone.
Who said he should strive with him over a woman. He dares to contend with him? That's what happens to boys who don't know their place.
He laughed and suddenly realised he wasn't alone in the house. He would sit back and await the breaking news.

" Someone has stolen my car!" Jordan exclaimed. He looked at the place where he had parked the car and squinted.
He was sure that the place where they stood was the spot he had parked his car.
The lock on his car must have been tampered with. Whoever kept the suitcase in his car had destroyed his car lock.
That can only have been done mechanically. His car system must have been tampered with before they can gain access to his lock.
That car was too sophisticated to be destroyed by just an ordinary mechanic except those who deal professionally in his kind of car.
"What do we do now?" Tina asked, feeling annoyed already. After mysteriously leaving a suitcase in Jordan's car, they set the ward where their dead colleague was kept, on fire.
Can it still be the same set of people who took Jordan's car away? They are all over the place and they couldn't recognise them?
They were likely the ones who attacked her a few days ago. Have they become supermen that can sneak in and out without being caught?
She must see the end of this case, except her name is not Tina and surnamed Smith. She must see that those rascals pay for their sins.
"Nothing else other than tracking the car. I will go in search of the car by activating the car tracker from it's censor. You go and rest, I will let you know if I need a backup" Jordan instructed.
Tina hissed between gritted teeth. She should go, he would let her know if he needs a backup? What kind of a talk is that?
How can she leave him at this critical time?

Obsessed with his Past
