Chapter 51 Patrick Campbell

Kate felt her throat choke. She opened her mouth and closed them again. What can she say, greet him or start by asking him a question?
His eyes were fixed on her face without blinking and his expression was cold. He definitely had known about what happened. He must have come to clarify a few things with her.
" Pat..tri..ck" Kate stammered. Finally she found her voice. She stammered as she called his name but yet looked guilty.
Patrick stared at her and looked at her from the top of her head to the toes. His face was filled with disgust for her as he hissed between gritted teeth.
Raising his head, he looked at her face again. The once beautiful and attractive face that sends him hovering around her through college.
She still looked attractive to some but definitely not him. Her inhuman behaviour and denial to him makes him see her through the eyes of a monster.
He had left her to study abroad while her father insisted that he wouldn't let her fly abroad to study being an only child and heir apparent to all his properties and investments.
At that time, her father was suffering a partial stroke and was only sustained by drugs and medication. He was afraid of dying without his daughter by his side.
Her mother was there but the place of a mother is much different from the place of a daughter. She therefore remained in the country.
The year he graduated, he came to ask her to marry him and she agreed. That was his happiest day, the day Kate told him yes.
When he returned to school for his finals, he discovered that Kate was getting estranged from him. He would call her, she might not answer until after several missed calls.
He had lost count of how many times he sent her messages on her telegram and wrote her letters but she wouldn't reply.
When he returned after his finals and graduated, he came to her house to give her a birthday present but was shocked when Kate wouldn't come out nor allowed her servants to take the present from him to her.
Next she sent a message that she was in love with someone else. He tried to persuade her, begged her and even asked her to forgive him despite knowing he hadn't done anything that required forgiveness.
But Kate said no and totally blocked her out of his life. A year passed and a few months later, he heard that she was married to a low class riff-raff.
But then something else stroked him, there was a picture of Kate and a girl who looked very much like his mother. She was born before she was married.
He was restless, is that girl in Kate's arm his daughter? He had asked himself that question, staring at the picture of her and the girl on social media.
He tried contacting her to ask her if his suspicion was true, she was actually pregnant with his daughter when she broke up with him?
He contacted her and Kate's answer that day kept resounding in his memory. "She is not your daughter! She is my husband and I daughter" she had declared.
" And the semblance, can't you see she is the spitting image of my mother?" He asked her, trying to make her understand things after all that girl was born before she was married.
" It's a coincidence, a mere coincidence. She is not related to you."Kate insisted vehemently that the girl was not his.
He suggested they go for a DNA test to affirm her claim. Kate refused and got a restraining order against him. That was the last time they talked.
Standing before him now, he detested her more than anything in this world. That love he had for her has now been contaminated and now what he feels for her was a stink, dirty stinking feeling.
She had kept him away from his daughter and now she's dead. What is his gain, just donated his sperm to her and made a daughter he never got to meet nor did she know him.
She had lied and possibly deceived her, telling her that the criminal was her father. He kept the truth away from her own daughter all her life and now,she is no more.
She possibly must have died not knowing the truth about her father. Kate is mean and heartless. He stared at her and his expression became fierce.
"Ho..w have y..ou been?" Kate asked, forcing a smile with eyes beclouded by tears. She regretted her actions now, she really regretted it.
If she had told Patrick that Kitty was his daughter, he would have taken her away from her. He definitely wouldn't let her raise Kitty.
That was what she was afraid of and concealed the truth of ever letting him know she was pregnant. Her parents had said they were not in support of her getting married to a medical doctor.
He would spend his entire life in the hospital and abandon her. She was easily deceived then and agreed with them to break off her relationship with him.
But she was already a few months gone when she ended her relationship with Patrick. When her parents discovered she was pregnant, they were happy and instructed her to keep it from Patrick.
Eventually she got married to Dare and he accepted to father her daughter and raise her as his own daughter. He was true to his words until a while ago that she discovered he was not true to her.
He raised her only to return and abuse her, molested her and eventually murdered her. Wouldn't it be good if she had stayed with Patrick?
He definitely would have raised her well and today, she wouldn't have been mourning the death of her daughter. Seeing Patrick, she knew she had hurt him badly.
"How have I been? I should be asking you that question. How the mother of my daughter is doing after giving my daughter to a man who abused and murdered her! Isn't it amazing Kate?" Patrick asked with a sneer.
Nonsense, asking him how he had been? If he wasn't doing well, is there anything she can do about it?
He stood and stared at her with disgust. Kate Wilson looked away and her tears ran down her cheeks freely.
Why do regrets come last after an act or deed has been done? Why not the other way round? Why does one have to bite his or her fingers after doing something irrevocable?
Gush, she wished it didn't have to be like this. That she doesn't have to look away when Patrick stands before her.
Without another word, Patrick threw a piece of paper to her face, "7pm, tomorrow at that address" he spoke authoritatively and looked at her like an object of irritation before walking away.
Before anyone could say Jack, journalists and pressmen surrounded Patrick and started asking him several questions.
The latter stood and was happy that the journalists came at the right time. He grinned and turned back to look at the tear filled face of Kate and gnawed angrily:
" I am Patrick Campbell, Kitty Wilson's father. Kitty was the daughter I had with my ex girlfriend Kate Wilson. She hid my daughter from me and gave her to another man.
She got a restraining order against me and denied my daughter of experiencing her fatherly love. Now my daughter was abused and murdered by the father she forced on her.
Invariably Kate Wilson is responsible for my daughter's death. She killed my daughter, Patrick Campbell's daughter and I will fight, I will fight this battle to the end with Kate Wilson, the battle line has been drawn..."
