Chapter 22: The Alliance!
The Queen was starting to get worried out of her mind. She was praying to all the gods she knew to keep her daughter safe while simultaneously biting the nails of her fingers out of anxiety. Even the King and Caro was jittery as it had been hours since Selena had gone into the maze.
The crowd was already starting to wail for their first princess.
They had seated themselves, a few steps away from the entrance of the labyrinth and though it had been hours since she had went in, the crowd never bulged from there and the King found himself surprised by the crowd’s devotion and respect towards the first princess.
One male vampire got up from the crowd and shouted anxiously, pointing to the sky, “Is that a dragon?”
One of them snorted at him, wondering whether he was delirious or just plain stupid as dragons had ceased to exist over the last century. But he too found himself looking at the sky with an open mouth as he realized that his friend’s proclamation had been correct.
There was indeed a black, Falak dragon circling the Labyrinth and judging by its direction, it seemed to be heading right where they were.
The Queen squinted her eyes at the dragon in a bid to get a clearer view, then realized that there was someone on top of the dragon, riding it and it was none other than her very own daughter, Selena.
The Queen shot a surprised look at the King and Caro, who mirrored her own surprise on their faces. They too had recognized Selena, but for the life of them couldn’t figure out how she was riding a dragon, that too, an ancient Falak dragon.
Falak dragon are known to be malicious and ruthless and yet here she was riding one of them as if it was just a pet. Caro heaved a sigh of relief as he saw that she was alright and unharmed. That was all that mattered to him, dragon or not. His eyes then zoomed in on her hand as they neared the crowd.
“The Blood Sword!”, Caro muttered out loud in disbelief and the entire crowd leapt up to their feet and the Queen’s eyes snapped to her daughter’s hand and just as Caro had declared, she was indeed holding the Blood sword in her right hand. The Queen shot a satisfactory smile at her daughter, realizing that she hadn’t indeed overestimated the capabilities of her daughter. She was literally flying over the maze on a dragon, with none other than the Blood sword on her hand.
Selena frowned as the dragon landed on his hind legs, sending the crowd gathered there into a state of frenzy and panic. They were obviously very scared of him but what surprised her was the fact that they were still there. She had expected her to go their own separate ways but no, they were gathered together at the entrance, waiting patiently for her return.
Even the crowd and the King was in disbelief and awe and the Queen found herself subtly smiling, unable to control her happiness.
The king couldn’t believe the sight that was unfolding in front of his very two eyes and he blinked rapidly to see whether he was imagining things or not…..He was not.
“The sword chose you?”, Caro asked, his voice coming out quivering.
It was after all his late brother’s sword and he had an emotional attachment to it.
His eyes than raked her from top to bottom as she numbly departed from the dragon. She looked fine though a little bit worn out.
This further enforced his decision as he believed that the Blood sword should belong to their family and the only way to do that was to make her his queen.
The Queen immediately rushed at her as her feet touched the ground and Selena being sick of her mother’s mind games whispered into her ear,
“Take me to the dungeons now”
The Queen flinched in surprise. She had figured that her daughter might have found out that Demetri was not in the maze but she didn’t think that she would know the exact location of where he was currently held.
The Queen’s surprised eye then slid to the dragon next to her and she frowned as she realized that the Falak dragons were magical creatures too.
It let out a puff of smoke and the Queen found herself backing away from both the dragon and her daughter. Selena had a slight smile on her face when she saw her mother in a frenzy because of her dragon. She smiled and patted the dragon gently on the head affectionately while the crowd watched her pet it with awed eyes.
“Let’s go back to the palace dear”, The King said straight faced, his mind being blown by the new version of his daughter he had seen today.
Selena nodded at the king and stepped forward, the dragon following her.
The king raised an eyebrow at her and she replied, “The dragon has vowed its assistance to me. And it is my responsibility to take care of it”
The Queen shot a surprised glance at her daughter, wondering how the hell she had managed to gain an ancient dragon’s loyalty. The Falak dragon standing in front of them could very well be the last dragon standing as there had not been any sightings of dragons over the past century.
The king nodded at his daughter proudly. Securing the allegiance of the blood sword as well as that of a Falak dragon was no ordinary feat.
The crowd started cheering, overcome with pride and emotions and Selena waved at them, grateful for their love and support.

“Demetri”, she muttered as she rushed into the dungeons and found him tied up, just like the vision the dragon had shown her.
She angrily turned towards her mother and said annoyedly, “unleash him, now”
The queen nodded at her guards, who without a word started unchaining him.
Selena shot her mother a stern look and warned her, “I don’t care if you think of this as a threat or a warning. If we are to work together, you have got to stop playing those underhanded things of yours. One more time you go behind my back and we are done”
She then concentrated on the man in front of her. She shot a look at her mother, and the Queen getting the inference nodded at the guards and both her and her royal guards escorted themselves out of the dungeons leaving the two of them alone.
“I am sorry….This is all because of me”, Selena said as she hugged him tightly.
