Chapter 44: The Awakening of the mad, bad vampire!
Selena let out a shrill laugh, delighted that at last she had defeated the great original vampire, Caro Silva himself whom even her father or her foster father, the General couldn’t defeat in a duel. It was both a proud moment as well as an honor for her and judging by the joy in Caro’s face too as he lay down on the ground defenseless, it seemed as if he was proud of her too. He had a look of pure admiration and awe whenever he looked at Selena.
Selena’s eyes softened at him as she realized that he wasn’t quite that bad as she was making him out to be. Yes! He was old fashioned but he wasn’t ashamed of loosing to a woman either. In fact, he had graciously accepted his defeat like a perfect gentleman and that made Selena’s heart skip a beat. Just the proud look on his face was enough to send butterflies into her stomach and for the first time in forever she found herself feeling happy genuinely.
Selena laughed as she aided Caro to rise up from the ground and he leaned on to her without any hesitation whatsoever as he raised himself up gingerly. He bent down and wiped the dirt of his robes and then bend his head formally at Selena and declared in a loud and clear voice “Let it go down in history that Selena, the royal princess of Valyria had defeated Caro Silva in a duel. Caro Silva hereby loses his undefeatable title and as vowed by me, I promise to marry the woman who had succeeded in defeating me.”
Selena bowed back to him, formally acknowledging his bow, feeling light hearted and giddy all of a sudden.
Selena then proceeded to straighten out her shoulders and Caro had the distinct impression that she had made up her mind about something.
With bold strides forward, Selena closed the distance between the two of them and Caro found himself frozen, unable to move, stunned and taken aback at the sudden closeness. She eyed his pale lips seductively, conveying her intentions clearly and Caro raised an eyebrow at her in surprise, sure that he had misread her.
Then without a second of hesitation, Selena kissed him on the lips. She wasn’t being too gentle about it either. She was going in full force, not at all showing the least bit of restraint and attacking and prying open his lips and Caro found himself reacting back hungrily. He took hold of her head and kissed her back ferociously, unable to hold back any longer.
Only when he heard a slight sound of a twig being broken under someone’s feet did he realize that they weren’t alone in there. Scandalized that he had been making out with his betrothed before marriage in the middle of the day under public scrutiny, he reluctantly let go of her and took several steps backward, making sure as to maintain a certain distance between the two of them as prescribed by the social norms.
“Vanessa”, Caro murmured to himself icily as he made out the familiar vampire in front of them and shot a panicked look at Selena as he realized that Vanessa’s gaze where fixed on her. She had a murderous gaze on her and she had a wild and maniacal look on her pale face, her thin lips pursed tightly, feeling resentful towards the first princess.
Vanessa narrowed her eyes at the first princess, locking her target, then within a blink of an eye, closed the distance between them, shoving Caro aside in the process. Selena blinked, surprised at suddenly finding her half sister, Vanessa on top of her. It was obvious by the mad look on her eyes as well as her fangs which had appeared that she intended to end the first princess there and then.
Selena frowned as she realized that her half sister had worked herself into some sort of frenzy and maniacal rage. Vanessa raised her hand to smack her but Selena was quick to shove her down and get back into her feet.
Vanessa growled in fury then straightened up herself, then glared down her half sister in barely suppressed fury.
Caro watched everything from the sidelines, deciding not to interfere in a woman’s fight. Besides he had full confidence that Vanessa would be an easy snack for Selena. After all, she had just defeated him personally without overworking herself too much. A vampire like Vanessa was not even a challenge to a trained warrior like Selena.
Vanessa strode froward confidently, but her smug expression changed into one of pure horror as she realized that she was being pulled up into the air as if she weighed nothing by the first princess.
Selena was not at all bothered by Vanessa’s flimsy attempts at slaying her and she had nonchalantly pulled her sister up into the air to get her to calm down but by the sudden and desperate thrashing of her legs, it seemed as if Vanessa had absolutely no intention of calming down yet.
As she thrashed in the air helplessly, the vein on Vanessa’s forehead bulged furiously as she realized that the first princess was not even taking her seriously and was simply playing with her. For the life of her, she couldn’t figure out how a vampire who had spent almost an entirety of her life in wheelchair could grow so strong suddenly. She had never seen the first princess as threat until now. She had dismissed her aside as a weakling.
“Let her go”, a loud voice commanded from behind them and Selena frowned as she recognized the owner of the voice.
The royal concubine was beyond agitated at seeing that her daughter was held up in the air so nonchalantly by the first princess.
Selena raised an eyebrow challengingly at her and asked her testily, “And I should obey you because?”
The royal concubine frowned at her smug face and let out a sigh in a bid to calm herself down. It broke her heart to see her daughter be so helpless.
“Let her go”, she repeated, but this time in a much softer tone.
Selena shrugged nonchalantly and replied, “Okay!”
The Queen then watched in horror as the first princess did exactly what she said a second before..
She let Vanessa go by simply leaving her hands instead of letting Vanessa’s feet touch the ground first. She merely let go of her hold and Vanessa fell.
The Queen let out a shriek as she her daughter’s head collide with the ground mercilessly and she immediately rushed at her, worried.
Vanessa yelled out loud in pain as her head hit the dry ground.
The concubine shot a furious and indignant look at the first princess and Selena rolled her eyes and snapped back, “Oh! Come on, don’t be such a dram queen. You are a vampire for god’s sake. It will heal itself in a few minutes but till then why don’t you enjoy the agony.”
With that she walked away, with Caro right at her heels. She paused for a second and turned back, locking eyes with the concubine and she said sarcastically, “Do be a doll and teach your daughter some manners, will you. The next time I find her in my man’s room, I won’t go easy on her. After all, you only have one daughter, so make sure she doesn’t step over any other boundaries and end up in ditch somewhere.”
The royal concubine narrowed her eyes dangerously at the first princess’s retreating back, as she held on her wailing daughter tightly, vowing to herself that she personally would destroy the first princess, come whatever may.
