Chapter 35: Cold war, jealousy and friendship!

Caro found himself fuming furiously at the reckless actions of his fiancé. She would have been subject to ridicule if she were caught with another man in the middle of the night by any of his people. She had also put her into danger. Hadn’t the royal concubine sent a couple of assassins this morning? How can she be so chill after that jarring incident? Not being able to control his anger, within a blink of an eye, Caro scooped his fiancé into his arms and took into a run back to the palace, leaving a pale faced and uncomfortable Demetri, right there.

“Let me go!”, Selena shouted at him over the intense wind blowing but Caro had no intention of slowing down, much less stopping.
Not having any other choice, Selena bit into his shoulders, sinking her teeth in sharply and Caro let out a wince, but still didn’t stop.

They reached the palace back in no time, and the guards, being back from their patrol duty, shot them a curious as well as bewildered look as they watched their king walk back into his palace with his woman in his hands.
They slyly nudged each other and chuckled, clearly believing that they had just spend an exotic night out.

Caro reached his bedroom and dumped her into his bed angrily, then fixed her with a stern stare like a parent being disapproved with his child. It was then that he realized their generation gap. He was too medieval and ancient to understand the younger generation’s care free and wild attitude.

Selena shoved herself back into her feet and got up from the bed furiously, mad at having been treated like a luggage.
She took several steps forward, closing the gap between the two of them then started yelling at him while simultaneously poking him in the chest with every word that came out from her mouth.
“You don’t get to control me….you don’t get to treat me so disrespectfully as if I am a bag of luggage.”
Caro winced at her attacks, then took a step back and massaged his chest where Selena had been literally poking a hole into, a few seconds back and grimaced at her.

He took a moment to compose and calm himself down before addressing the issue at hand. Judging by Selena’s stubborn nature and her temperament, it would do him no good if he continued to argue.

“You are young, I understand that but there are certain rules and moral conduct you need to follow in this kingdom. And you vouched that you had absolutely no feelings for Demetri and yet I find you embracing each other in the middle of the night in a forlorn place.”

Selena’s eyes shot up in surprise, finally knowing what had made him fly completely off the ladle. For a minute there she was worried, that he might have heard what they were talking about. But now it was obvious that even though he was following her, he clearly maintained his distance so as not to accidently eavesdrop into their conversation. Selena’s anger dissipated slowly and her eyes softened at him.
“You are jealous?”, Selena exclaimed, sounding incredulous.

Caro pouted ta her, and she found herself laughing out loud.
“Because we hugged?”, she repeated and put her head back and let out a shrill laughter.

She then took a deep breath in, composing her face, then fixed Caro with a stern gaze as she said stoically, “I don’t know which century you are still living in, but hugging your friends is not a crime”

Caro flinched, then fidgeted uncomfortably.
Caro sighed and shook his head at her, flustered that he had acted so immaturely in front of her when he had been trying to impress her for the last few weeks.

He bowed his head apologetically and Selena raised an eyebrow teasingly at him, suddenly finding herself enjoying the moment, seeing the flustered Caro Silva.

He bit the insides of his cheek uncertainly, then finally mustering up some courage, finally let it all out, “No matter which century we live in, I would still appreciate if you kept your distance from other men, be it friends or family.”

Selena scoffed at his old fashioned thinking, then sighed at him. How were they ever supposed to get along and have a life with each other when they had such different ways of thinking? He was very old fashioned for her and she was too forward thinking for a male chauvinistic like him. Selena realized internally that this was a marriage headed for doom and failure.

Selena eyed him intently, suddenly on a serious note and asked him, “Do you really see us having a future? Don’t worry about my father’s command. I will deal with the aftermaths of that if we were to break off this engagement. We have all eternity and that eternity would become quite taxing if we aren’t spending it with the ones we genuinely love and admire”

Caro let out a sigh, being bothered by her sudden frankness and her nonchalant attitude when talking about calling off the engagement. How can he prove it her that it wasn’t a forceful deal for him and he was willingly doing it because he truly loved and admired her? Yes, they did have their difference of opinions but she was the only woman who could make him feel this way in centuries.

Without a word to put in his defense, he took a step forward, closing the distance between the two of them, determined to prove his point.
With his right hand, he pulled her to him, wrapping his hand around her waist.

He eyed her lips, then looked back into her eyes, conveying his intentions. He had been a perfect gentleman all this time, but it seems as if the kids of this generation didn’t exactly believe in the age old beliefs and traditions.
Seeing that she wasn’t trying to move out of his embrace, he bent his head and kissed her luscious lips. He found himself groaning as he finally tasted those lips that had been tantalizing and teasing him for weeks. His tongue nudged forward and Selena after a brief second of hesitation let him in.
She sucked in a sharp breath as his tongue darted inside her mouth, examining every inch of her mouth. He then sucked on her under lip sharply and she found herself arcing her back in response.

He paused and then let her go, deciding that if he were to continue kissing her, he wouldn’t be able to control himself any longer and suppress his urges and desires till their wedding night.
He made eye contact with a flustered and furiously blushing Selena and asked deadpan, “Have I made my point? Or should I continue?”
Selena nodded meekly at him, then without a word, opened their joint door and darted to her room and locked herself in, her heart beats thundering, her knees weak and wobbly as she leaned against the door separating her from Caro Silva.
