Chapter 30: Earth Splitter!
Selena frowned as more and more vampires appeared out of thin air. The royal concubine clearly hadn’t taken them easily. After all, slaying the three of them together was not an easy feat, especially Caro, him being an original vampire.
“We have no other option than killing them, isn’t it?”, Selena asked the other two and Demetri nodded at her meekly, his eyes and ears on alert.
“They are trained assassins, Selena, who had taken lives of countless others. Don’t show mercy to them and stay vigilant”, Caro declared out loud and Demetri flashed a surprised look at the two of them. Caro had just called her ‘Selena’.
Selena saw the questioning glance from Demetri and caught his eye and mouthed, ‘Later’, so he decided not to pry too much into it right now. He had bigger problems to deal with at the moment.
“So be it”, Selena snarled at the vampires and Demetri immediately broke the circle and backed away seeing the glint in her eyes. He knew exactly what she was going to do.
Caro frowned at Demetri mistaking his withdrawal as a retreat of cowardice. Caro felt wrong footed all of a sudden since never in his dreams had he imagined that Demetri who was so loyal to Selena would turn his back from her. They had seemed so loyal to each other and she had even entered the Labyrinth of Death for him without hesitation.
Demetri seeing that Caro was not moving an inch sighed and literally manhandled him into the sidelines.
Caro glowered at his fiancé’s guard. Why on earth was he making him back way too instead of protecting her? After all, she was the one who they were after. And she was the one he needed to protect.
“Let go….I need to protect her”, Caro commanded mightily and Demetri snorted at him in response.
“Trust me, Your Highness. She doesn’t need any protection. We will only be in her way instead of helping her. In fact, she is the safest person here right now. You don’t what her powers are, do you? There is only one vampire in this entire realm who has the power and ability to last in a fight with Selena and fortunately for her, he is not here right now”
Caro found himself muddle head and dazed all of a sudden and couldn’t make a sense of what Demetri was trying to tell him. All his attention and worry were on Selena and every inch of hid body wanted to return to her side. What were her powers exactly? He had seen her control the apple tree in the royal gardens to bow and she had munched off the apples she had plucked, but Caro had the stern belief that judging by the way Demetri was talking confidently about it, her powers weren’t limited to controlling nature as he had been foolishly led to believe.
“Who is this other person whose power is in par with Selena?”, Caro asked curiously and Demetri looked into his eyes and replied shrugging, “Dominic Vanhuesan……your nephew”
Caro’s eyes shot up in surprise as he realized the wavelength Selena’s powers must have been to be compared to Dominic’s. His nephew’s powers were telekinesis which meant that he could literally manipulate anything and everything he wanted just by thinking it in his mind.
He stepped back reluctantly and eyed Selena as well as the surroundings meticulously. Selena closed her eyes and concentrated on the earth.
Within seconds, Caro watched in disbelief as the ground slitted itself into two except for where Selena and them were standing and the vampires helplessly fell into the gigantic pit that Selena had just created. Even of they were assassins wearing masking, their terror-stricken faces could be seen quite clearly. They were at a loss for words and taken by surprise. After all, the first princess’s powers were a strictly guarded secret and she hadn’t revealed any of them when she was in the royal palace.
Caro found himself open mouthed as he watched his future bride split open the earth like it was no big deal while Demetri merely stood there unconcerned and nonchalant, used to all this.
As the vampires tried to jump out of the pits, Selena proceeded to join back the ground that she had just split with the vampires merged in it.
Caro watched in disbelief as she literally buried them deep on to the ground. For all of eternity they could try, but they will never be able to come out in the open air again.
Caro was noticing a new side to his bride to be every day. She was loyal to her friends, but merciless to an enemy.
Seeing that the ground was now steady, Caro rushed at Selena worriedly and she flashed him a crooked smile.
“So, you can control earth?”, Caro asked curiously.
Selena snorted at him and replied, “Oh, that is not the only thing I can control.”
She then twirled her fingers confidently and Caro found to his surprise that the air around him was swirling into a small typhoon. She snapped her fingers again and everything was once again normal.
Late realization dawning into his eyes, Caro muttered in disbelief, more to himself than to anyone else, “You can control all the elements?”
Selena nodded smugly at him and he found himself being awe struck by the woman standing mightily in front of him. Not only could she manipulate the elements according to her will but also had the allegiance of the Falak dragon and was the master of the Blood Sword. She clearly was a vampire on a league of her own and just like Demetri had said, Caro realized that she wasn’t a woman who needed protection.
His nephew, he was afraid, not matter his amazing powers would be quite wary of Selena himself if they ever were to meet face to face.
Caro frowned when he realized that too much power could also be very dangerous. Threatened vampires could join hands against her. Caro bit his lips uncertainly as he considered the two of the options before him. If she were to reveal her marvelous powers in front of the world, no one would ever dare to stand in her way, much less try to attack her but if she does reveals her powers to public, she might also constantly under the watch of the council. She might be used as a mere pawn.
Her powers could put her in even more danger than she already was. And too much power could make anyone go arrogant and narcissistic. He would have to make sure that Selena stays grounded to her home, her beliefs and principles, no matter how powerful she becomes. Otherwise instead of being a strength, she would easily become a threat.
