9. Threatening
CHAPTER NINE
Drake had never felt more certain about winning more than he did now. He could feel it coursing through the thickness of his veins, making a victorious smirk cross his features. By midday, Nadia would his and there would be no trace of Collins anywhere to stop him this time around. Sometimes he didn’t understand what Nadia saw in that douche bag. I mean, Drake was a freaking original hybrid, possessing power than any supernatural would want and despite his roguish nature, he was quite a looker and yet Nadia had picked Collins over him. He was used to gaining quite a number of wishful looks from women everywhere he went. Sometimes even from men. He prided himself on his articulate elegance and sharp, irresistible elegance.
“Did you know about this?” Darius demanded, intercepting him on his way back to the main camp. He was more than just furious and Drake had a pretty good incline as to why. After all, he knew it would only be a matter of time before they all found out.
“Know about what?” he played dumb, wearing his usual stoic expression.
“That Nadia, the same woman who dragged us into a war against the wolves, has switched sides,” The Alpha of the Dragon clan was not at all pleased and who could blame him? When he first found out from Trina, Drake had been beyond furious too but he’d convinced Trina to be quiet about the matter. Instead, he’d sold off the rest of them on the narrative that Nadia along with Sasha were actually trapped in the house, afraid of the wolves. That had been the reason they’d decided to attack immediately instead of waiting until the day after tomorrow to launch a proper attack.
“Who told you that?” He questioned, still playing dumb. He maybe a hybrid, possessing the strongest qualities of both the wolves and vampires, but he was wary too of the Dragons. They were not exactly the most pleasant when they were angry.
“I h-had to tell them. I’m sorry,” Trina spoke rather meekly as she came behind the Dragon Alpha.
“Why did you- you know what? Whether Nadia has been brainwashed enough to join the wolves or not, she is to remain unharmed either way. Anyone touches even a single strand of hair from hair and I’m killing them myself without any hint of remorse. You hear me?” His tone was thickened with threat.
“She betrayed us right after leading us into a war we never wanted to be part of,” The Dragon Alpha countered.
“Who betrayed us?” A newer voice spoke joining the trio and all of them turned their attention towards them. Despite his young age, Adrian possessed an air of command and authority that even put the arrogant leader of Vampires, Caleb, in check. He was the exact replica of Nadia, with longer dark hair cascading just a little over his shoulder, high cheekbones and a gentle face that would have one mistaking him for an easy to manipulate kind of person.
“Did you all know about this?” Caleb joined the group, looking more pissed than anyone had ever seen him.
“Know what? Can somebody tell me what the fuck is going on before I have to cut somebody’s head for it?” Adrian’s voice was low but holding enough threat to make someone’s blood run cold.
“Your sister joined hands with the wolves,” Caleb said, “She was our chance to get rid of the witches and werewolves at once without having to lose anyone from our side. The victory was finally ours and now what? She betrayed us for the one person she convinced us to join hands against?”
“There has to be some miscommunication. My sister would never join hands with the people who murdered out entire family and many of our people,” Adrian spoke, somewhat fazed. It had to be a lie.
“And how would you know? You guys were separated when you were what? Eight? Nine? So much has changed and your sister is not the same woman you know. Who knows? The werewolves have perhaps poisoned her mind and now she wants nothing more than to destroy all of us,” Caleb spoke up, his twinkling,” You know what? I’m going to say it. We kill her first before she-“
“What did you say?” Drake cut him off, looking pretty pissed but by this time Adrian had already landed a hard blow on Caleb, sending him tottering back from the impact.
“You touch even a single hair on my sister’s head and you are dead, Caleb. I don’t give a fuck that you are some vampire king. I will murder you in cold blood just like I did with all those wolves except I’ll make it more painful So be careful what you say about my sister the next time you choose to run your mouth like that,” Fear spread in Caleb’s eyes but only for a brief second.
“Jeez! You need to learn to take a joke you two,” he gave a nervous laughter, massaging the place he’d been hit by Adrian. Arrogant, cruel and certainly one to take pleasure in killing people; the vampire king was not short of that but he was smart enough to know who not to cross. In this case, it would have to be Adrian.
“Joke about your own bloody sister but not mine,” Adrian warned before gaining a straight face while eying the rest of the members,” Anyone else got something to say about my sister?”
Everyone else wore passive expression, saying nothing. Trina had to admit she was quite attracted by the dominance Adrian expedited despite his young age. He was more Alpha than the three leading figures in the vicinity. It was a little bit of a turn on admittedly enough. For a brief moment, she’d wondered what he’d be like in bed. Gentle?? A dominant perhaps? Maybe the kind to make her want to get tied in bed and railed the brains out of her? Or was he perhaps the one that would slowly make love to her, kissing every inch of her and worshipping her body with the touch of his lips?
“Well, now that has been established, how about we get to work, huh?” he commanded.
“I agree. So what’s the strategy? We can’t just attack without knowing what is awaiting us. The Collins I know wouldn’t just sit around and wait for us to attack. He obviously has something planned,” Caleb reasoned.
“You don’t have to have to worry about that. I already had someone to keep an eye on things and well they just came back,” Adrian, smirked rather darkly, “Trust me, not only did he have to beg Xander for help but they have a weak line of defense too. This,” he paused, his gaze wavering to the pairs of eyes stuck on his, “Is out time. The reign of werewolves is coming to an end. They terrorized us, killed our loved ones, drove us out of the town we once called home. Now its time avenge. Blood for blood,”
“Just make sure we get Collins’ head first. I would love to see that asshole taking his last breath,” Drake pointed out, lips curving into a conniving smirk.
For the first time ever, Trina wondered whether to be scared. Was Nadia right about stopping this war?
