15: Aftermath of War

CHAPTER FIFTEEN
The war didn’t last long. No, as a matter of fact it had have taken an approximate forty-five minutes’ tops but the amount of damage done was quite the menace. Corpses burned to ashes decorated the town almost corner you turned. It was during the wee hours of the morning when Collins inspected the destructions. No one knew how the war stopped or why it stopped. All they knew was that one second the sky was raining balls of fire as the were-dragons flew across the sky with vampires trying to sink their teeth on anything that had no werewolf blood in it, a.k.a, the witches and the next minute, there was just utter silence across the sky. It just…stopped. No explanation. No warning. All Collins knew was that suddenly the vampires and the were-dragons retreated. Maybe the dragons had been exhausted but what about the vampires? The enchanted coven hadn’t shown up, thankfully.

“Where the hell is Nadia?” Collins’ voice thundered, not caring that he was nursing a rather painful would on his right leg. He had never been in a war this destructive before and he should be worried of the losses but his mind was on Nadia. Last he saw her was when she was headed to the cliff with Adrian hot on her heels.

“All you care about is that damn mortal. How about we talk of the damage that has been done on the other packs? I spent almost an hour, trying to convince them to join hands with you and when they did, their packs were first to be attacked. Three out of the other Alphas are injured really bad and not to mention they have lost quite a huge number of members and all for what? Some fight that was just between you and the other species?” Xander was more than just furious, “ They are all mad at me because of you. Are you happy now Collins?”

“Of course I’m not happy,” he countered, his voice even sharper, “Everyone’s blood that was spilled tonight, is on me. I led people to this war. So I’m not even the slightest happy about it,”

“Really? Because all you see to care is about that damn mortal, who by the way, is apparently the reason this was started in the first place? Just when are you going to learn that maybe picking the right women is just not your forte? All they are going to do is be the end of you,” Xander shook his head in pity then walked away to try and calm another enraged Alpha.

Collins sighed in frustration before kicking the tuft of grass underneath his feet. Did Xander not learn anything about war? There had been no guaranteed winning right from the very beginning. So it was certainly a little bit unfair the young Alpha would blame it all on him.

Ethan approached him, limping a bit with soot covering more than half his face. He halted in front of him then a small, victorious smile broke on his face as he patted his Alpha’s shoulder.

“See? I told you we are going to win,”

“People, many people, died today Ethan. I don’t think this counts as winning,” He sighed. He should be feeling even a slightly bit victorious that they were able to save their town but to many people had died.

“Everybody who walked into this war, was ready to give their life for the cause. Knowing that we were able to save our town, the home to our families, colleagues and packs; should have you feeling proud. You led us to a war that you didn’t even start. Like, you had every chance to back out, go to New York where the rest of your family is and leave us to the mercy of your father, but you didn’t. You stayed and you fought. You were in the frontlines. So you should be proud of yourself,”

“That did make me feel a bit better,” He smiled warmly.

The sun was rising, the hue orange of its early morning sunrays appearing beyond the mountains. He didn’t think he’d see the sun again but there it was, glowing as though the earlier hours hadn’t been full of destruction.

“Alright. So how much damage are we looking at so far?” He straightened up, ignoring any traces of exhaustion trying to take over his body.

“Quite a substantial amount. The witches did lose around fifty of the members so far and well, we are still checking on the number of werewolves. The leaders of the coven are not too happy about this but well, its war and war always has consequences. Don’t beat yourself about it too much, okay?”

“Okay. Keep me updated. I’ll scout around for a bit too and then we can regroup in a few minutes,” he ordered, pushing his body forwards.

As he walked around, the only thing that was in his mind was finding Nadia. Where the hell was she? Had Adrian kidnapped his sister? Was it Drake perhaps? Or could it even be the witches since they only joined this war apparently because they knew the Dela Fuente twins were a weapon against them too? These thoughts and possibilities only served to make him more irrational with worry.

“Where the fuck is she?” An angry, all too familiar voice had him stopping in his tracks and when he turned around, Drake was glowering at him.

“What?” He played, knowing too well the only person the hybrid could get worked over like this, had to be Nadia.

“There is no scent of her anywhere,” He suddenly grabbed Collins’ already rugged shirt, “What the fuck have you done to her?”

Collins pushed him away, his own rage now rising up a notch, “Me? I should be asking you. Nadia disappeared when I busy leading the packs to war. We both know you are the only one capable of pulling up something so sinister, even to the worst lengths, to keep her from me. So where the fuck is she Drake? Or I’ll have your blood spilled right now,”

Drake studied the eyes of the man before him, trying to decipher if he was acting up or what. Judging from the rage, he was perhaps innocent.

“If you don’t where she is and I can’t pick up the scent of her blood either…”He trailed off, not wanting to completed the sentence.

“Nadia is safe and alive. She has to be,” Collins said in a tight lipped tone before adding in a voice full of determination, “And I’m going to find her. If someone has even laid their fingers on her, I’m going to kill them,”

With that, he walked past the hybrid, leaving the somewhat fazed hybrid still halted in his tracks.
