6.Unlikely allies
CHAPTER SIX
The tension was palpable among the two packs engaged in a staring contest, none of them willing to stand down or look away first but still reluctant enough to make a move towards each other. Of course, Collins had anticipated that given the already tensed history between the alphas. It was a miracle none of them had started fighting already. If someone had told him that one day he’d conform to seeking for allies with the obnoxiously arrogant Alpha Xander of Creek Moon Pack, he would have chuckled at the absurdity of that. Yet, here they were now. The two packs had formed a line of defense on the edge of town, armed with arrows, guns and darts all laced with different poisons from vervain to dragon poisons. Given the short time they had, they had taken any form of weapon they could lay their hands on. Nadia hadn’t been too happy being left cooped up in the house along with Sasha. All she could do was pace around, completely unsettled.
“I mean I could have helped in some way,” She stopped pacing, throwing her hands in the air.
“You don’t even know what you can do yet, Nadia. You of all people should know that Collins would never risk your life. He’d rather die than put you in the face of danger,” Sasha countered then mumbled under her breath, “Wish I could say the same for Daniel,”
“But I caused this,” she countered stubbornly as she sat down, feeling dejected, “ If I hadn’t gotten in my head, focused on my loathe for Carson, then I wouldn’t have flown all the way to Las Vegas and gotten the Dragons and Vampires to get together. I instigated this war, Sasha. I need to be out there with the rest of the werewolves,”
Sasha reached forward, intertwining her fingers with Nadia’s, “This war is not your fault. If somebody is to blame, then it will be that asshole Carson,”
“Yes it is my fault. I should have just let it be and not even set foot in this town,” she paused, running a hand through her hair,” Why did I try to find answers to my past? Why couldn’t I just let all of this be? Look what is happening now. People, innocent people, are going to get hurt because of me and here I’m, in the safety of this house like I didn’t just start a whole war,”
“Oh, so Collins’ little muse is suddenly feeling remorseful. Where was all that big talk huh? The confident Nadia that apparently wanted nothing more than to bring me down and take my man is actually such a wimp,” Laila walked into the room, a smirk dancing on her lips. She had waited for a moment like this, to gloat over the woman who literally stole Collins from her. This look of helplessness and defeat was something she longed for quite some time.
“Not now Laila,” Nadia groaned, feeling too overwhelmed to argue with her.
“Not now? All this would never have happened if your pathetic little ass hadn’t swung her hips at my husband,” She crossed her arms.
“Even though I’m all for girl drama, this is the worst possible timing ever. People we care about are out there and we don’t even know if they are going to be okay. The last thing we need is some drama,” Sasha countered but Nadia was already fed up with Laila’s whining.
“Husband? You never gave a shit about Collins to begin with. Maybe it was the title of Luna that drove you crazy or perhaps you craved being wanted by men. What I know is that the best decision he has ever made was dump your ass,”
“Dump me? You really think you and Collins have a future together? He is mated to me, not you and trust me, once I remind him what it was like to be married to me, he’ll come back running to me. It would be fun to watch him slowly dissociate from you,” For someone who cheated and got demoted to Omega, she sure did sound confident.
“You really are delusional, aren’t you? You broke his heart in the worst way possible and still have the audacity to stand in front of me claiming all this bullshit about him running back to you?” The woman was quite unbelievable; she had to give her that.
“And what about you? How are you any better from me? Yes, I cheated but you? You cheated on William and now he is a vampire thanks to you. How do you sleep at night knowing you hurt him like that?” she shook her head, “What exactly do you tell yourself to make yourself feel better for all the hurt you’ve caused everyone around you?”
“You know nothing about me and William. So keep his name out of your fucking mouth or else I will kill you right now! You have no idea what I’m capable of,” Nadia snapped.
“Whoa! Slow down on the killing. We are all in our feelings and tensions are running high but we don’t have to turn on each other like this,” Sasha interrupted, getting between the two women.
Nadia glared at Laila one more time turned around, picked a leather coat, “I’m going and no one is going to stop me. Because unlike Laila, Collins is more than just a dick for me,”
“No. He said-Nadia! Fuck!” Sasha screamed after Nadia but the latter was already out of the door, quickly locking it with a latch on the outside.
With determined steps, she found a way out of the pack territory, past the two sentinels dosing off at the entrance. She was not about to let Collins or anyone else get hurt because of a decision she made in a fit of uncontrollable rage.
