Chapter 35
Just so you know Damien, I saw that," Draco said in a whisper-like tone and the skin between Damien's brows creased in confusion as he couldn't understand what Draco could be going on about.
"What is it you saw?" he asked, genuinely confused.
"Don't you dare pretend with me buddy cause I saw you...," he said, pointing at Damien.
"Leaning comfortably in the arms of your darling mate, Kira and believe me buddy, I never imagined that I'd get to see you snuggling into the arms of the very woman you didn't stop claiming was your enemy. It was a pretty interesting sight I must say," Draco teased and Damien couldn't help but roll his eyes.
"That's it? Seriously? You're unbelievable Draco," He hissed dismissively, not very interested in starting up any kind of conversation concerning his relationship with Kira.
He wasn't going to start explaining himself to Draco knowing very well how tiring Draco could get.
"By the way Damien, thank you. I owe you one for sure," Draco said suddenly.
"What exactly are you thanking me for?" Damien asked, confused.
"For saving my brother," Draco replied and Damien scoffed.
"In that case, you should be thanking Kira instead. She was a lot more helpful than I was," he said, looking towards the room where Kira was.
"It's a good thing you're finally acknowledging how great she is bro. Keep it up," Draco replied jokingly before Blake walked back in.
"Rogan is awake," he announced to both men and they both immediately flew up from where they sat.
As soon as they both walk in, they see Rogan lying with his eyes open and Kira sitting right beside him.
"Little brother," Draco called out his brother in a soft tone, walking towards his bedside and taking a seat beside him.
"B...brother," Rogan struggled to reply as the pain in his neck had still not healed to the fullest, therefore making it difficult for him to speak clearly.
Memories of what happened earlier slowly started to resurface and he let out a sigh as realisation dawned on him.
Earlier today while he was patrolling the guest quarters, he had seen someone walking into the forest suspiciously with a black cloak covering her face. The only reason he could tell it was a woman behind the cloak is because her height and her small frame easily gave her away.
Curiosity had gotten the best of him and without informing anyone else, he began to trail her from behind. Before he knew it, someone came at him out of nowhere and with some sort of super strength, threw him a few feet away from where he was and caused his back to hit a nearby tree very hard.
He remembered clearly how he had groaned in pain and how his back felt like his entire bone had smashed and the attacker, without wasting time, jumped in front of him again and attempted to strangle him to death.
Rogan had noticed that the attacker had covered his face with a mask and after struggling out of his grip briefly, he finally managed to pull the mask away from his face but that would be his biggest mistake as the attacker, without thinking twice, pierced his weirdly long teeth into his neck.
He had gotten the shock of his life when he realised that his blood was being drunk by his attacker and as much as he struggled to be released, he couldn't move away and he simply had no other option than to lie there and feel his blood being drained.
He managed to muster the little strength left in him and howled as loudly as he could but after that, he completely lost consciousness of what was happening around him.
The next time he was able to open his eyes, he was thankful to have seen the familiar face of Damien and a strange face he didn't seem to recognise but he assumed she was the unknown guest at the guest quarters.
Rogan groaned in pain as he made an attempt to sit up.
"Hey don't do that. You'll hurt yourself," Kira said, stopping him quickly and he stared back at her curiously as he wondered who she was.
"How do you feel,Rogan?" Draco asked worriedly.
"You know what, don't bother answering that and stressing yourself. I'm just glad you're alive and looking better," he adds, feeling relieved to see his brother looking better.
"What exactly happened to Rogan? How did you end up getting injured?" Damien asked.
"The question is, why in the world did you go into the damned woods all by yourself? What pushed you to make such a hasty decision?" Draco hissed.
Rogan sighed. He shut his eyes briefly as he tried to mutter the strength he needed to explain everything that had happened and when he started to narrate his experience, he could see the expressions on the face of his listeners switch from confused to shocked and then back to confused again.
"You mean to tell us that you were actually bitten by a human? Like, a normal looking human like us here that didn't need to change to anything? Also, he used his mere teeth to bite and drink from you? Like, just his teeth and nothing else?" Damien questioned, trying to create a mental picture of Rogan's attacker and also shocked by the ridiculous things he's hearing about him.
Rogan nodded positively. "Yes Alpha Damien, he used his weirdly long teeth to pierce and drink from me. When I first saw it, it suddenly came out of nowhere and the next thing I knew, I was sent flying across the woods like I weighed absolutely nothing and not only was it that strong, it was fast as well. Before I could get a hold of myself and fight back, it had gotten to me," he explained.
"The creatures cursed by the sun are night crawlers who avoid the sun during the day and feed on people at night to replenish themselves," Kira muttered as if reciting a poem.
The skin between Damien's brows creased in confusion. He stared back at her as he wondered what she had in mind and if what she just said made any sense.
"What is it, Kira? Did something come to mind?" Damien asked.
"I think I finally understand how these creatures are cursed by the sun. Haven't you observed that most of the killings happen in the same pattern and it's always during nighttime? If my assumption is correct, this means that these creatures cannot do anything during the day. Unlike us, they're only powerful and superior at night and cursed to be powerless during the day," Kira expressed her thoughts as different theories started to hit her.
"So what is it that you're saying? That they can't attack her during the daytime?" Damien asked.
"Well, it's not exactly a terrible assumption. That would explain the name and their pattern of attack. Also, I'm starting to think that they've actually infiltrated your pack and are living here as members of your pack. That would explain why only your people keep dying mysteriously with other packs still being safe," she explained.
"She has a point Alpha Damien. I actually saw a person walking into the woods from inside here and it was most definitely a woman. By the way, who are you?" Rogan asked curiously, taking Kira by surprise with his sudden question.
Kira immediately glanced towards Damien with a small smile on her face, waiting for him to take the initiative and introduce her.
"Rogan, this is Kira and she's the Alpha of Redmoon pack," Damien introduced calmly, leaving out the fact that Kira was his mate on purpose.
Kira looked away from him as she felt her heart tighten in disappointment. She knew she shouldn't have expected anything from him since he already told her severally that they would only remain as allies but she still couldn't help but feel bad about it.
"She's my mate by the way," Damien added out of nowhere, surprising everyone in the room, especially Kira.
Rogan blinked his eyes multiple times in confusion as he tried digesting what he has just heard.
"Redmoon pack Alpha? The same Redmoon pack that we all hate? What is she doing here and are you really being serious about her being your mate? Is this for real?" Rogan asked, still in complete shock that sitting right beside him, was the Alpha of their rival pack.
He knew for a fact that since he wasn't aware that no one else in the pack would be she, he could not help but wonder what Damien was thinking of keeping her with him.
How long could she have been here and for what reason exactly is she here? Rogan asked within himself as he glanced back and forth between Kira and Damien.
"In case you're wondering why she's here, well, she's only here to help us out," Damien simply replied, not bothering to go into any more details.
"Try and get some rest now Rogan and when you're well enough, I'll be back to answer all of your questions or you can just ask your brother. Take care of yourself," Damien tells him before getting up to leave.
"Nice meeting you Rogan," Kira greeted politely before getting up to leave, leaving Draco behind with his brother and following Damien closely from behind.
