Chapter 36
When Sheila heard the news that Rogan had recovered but was currently unconscious, she knew she had to completely take him out before he ended up waking up and getting her in serious trouble.
Later that night, she snuck into the room Rogan was in after distracting the guards that were assigned to protect him.
When she got in, she spotted Rogan lying on his back, looking unconscious. She saw this as an opportunity to quickly do what needed to be done but before she could strangle him, he held her hands taking her by surprise as she realised that he was only asleep but definitely not unconscious.
Damien had made the fact that Rogan was awake a secret, putting Kira's word in mind that they might have infiltrators in their midst.
Rogan was in total shock the minute his eyes met Sheila's. He couldn't help but wonder what it is she wanted and what exactly she was about to do to him.
"What are you doing?" he asked in a calm but cautious tone.
Realising that her cover was blown and without bothering to waste any more time, she pushed his hands off hers and proceeded to attack him as planned without attracting the guard's attention.
Rogan wasn't expecting Sheila's attack but thankfully, he was able to slip away just in time. He was also in shock at how strong she actually was because to the best of his knowledge, Sheila was supposed to be the fragile sweetheart of the Alpha and yet, here she was making him fight for his life with much difficulty.
"What the hell is going on, Miss Sheila? Why are you trying to kill me? What could I...," he was saying until realisation suddenly dawned on him.
"Don't tell me you're the one I had followed. Is that why you're trying to harm me?" he asked and Sheila scoffed.
"All the more reason you have to go to Rogan. Don't blame me for it. Blame yourself for overstepping your boundaries and being too curious," Sheila hissed.
"Just who are you?" he questioned in confusion.
"Who am I Rogan? Can't you already tell? I'm the person who'll send you to a happy place where you will have no choice but to mind your business," she replied, immediately hitting him as hard as she could and aiming for the healing wound on his neck to weaken him.
Rogan groaned in pain as his already healing wound suddenly started to bleed again. Sheila immediately wrapped her fingers around his already weak neck and strangled him as hard as she could. Rogan tried to struggle out of a grip and call for help but Sheila's surprisingly strong hands did not let go and after fighting tirelessly for his life, he finally gave up to her and lost his breath a few seconds later.
"Shit!" Draco hissed as soon as he saw Rogan's body lying in what seemed like a lifeless position.
He had just come back to check on his brother to make sure everything was fine with him, only for him to meet with a pale and lifeless body. He pressed on his neck lightly at first to check if there was still any sign that Rogan was actually alive but when he got nothing, his entire world turned instantly dark.
'How the fuck did this happen? Who could have done this?' he mentally questioned as different thoughts ran through his mind. He let out a loud and furious cry, attracting the guard's attention and pulling them to rush into the room.
Unfortunately, both of them had fallen for Sheila's trick and had gone after a figure that seemed suspicious, only for it to turn out to be nothing.
Damien rushed in as soon as he was informed of Rogan's death. The moment he saw Rogan's body and how Draco had held on tightly to him with tears streaming down his face, his stomach fell and his heart clenched.
"How the fuck did this happen? Who did this to him?" he hissed through gritted teeth as his eyes stayed fixated on Rogan's unalive body.
He felt so much pain and anger bubbling through him as he still could not bring himself to understand and accept that Rogan had died all because of their carelessness. He couldn't help but wonder who could have been so audacious enough to walk in here and commit such an heinous crime, knowing they could have gotten caught and killed.
He walked closer to see Rogan's body and not a single scratch was on him as usual. He kept looking all over his body until his eyes landed on his neck where he realized that the part of his neck that was bitten previously had suddenly opened up again. He wondered if was possible that whoever did this in the first place actually came back and continued from where he started but if that was really the case, how did they get in? How could it have been that easy to walk in here and do this without even getting caught at all?
Draco sat in silence as he stared at Rogan's body, still in utter disbelief that he had actually lost his brother and that he would never get to see his goofy and sometimes annoying smile, ever again. Tears laced as his even more as the thought of what he would tell mother after his death crossed his mind and he could not help but feel like a failure, who couldn't even protect his own sibling.
"I'm so sorry I couldn't protect you Rogan. Please forgive you big brother for failing you," he cried out in pain as tears streamed down his face heavily. Just then, Damien's cousin and Draco's mate, Olivia, who also happened to be the pack third in command, walked in and as soon as she saw Draco in tears, her heart dropped.
She immediately crawled to where he sat and took him in her hands, causing him to cry even more.
"I'm so sorry babe, I really am," she muttered in tears as she looked on at Rogan's body and let out a loud cry of both frustration and sadness.
The moment Kira heard of Rogan's death, she had not moved an inch from her room. The first thing that came to her mind was the last conversation she had with him before he died.
"It's actually a surprise to see the Alpha of the Redmoon pack here, you know. I get that you're his mate and all which is still very surprising but asides that, people other than myself and a few people around here don't know that yet and the fact that they don't know this is not a good sign at all," he said truthfully, still keeping Kira at arm's length.
Kira let out a frustrated sigh. "I know it's hard for you to accept or even understand but just as you can't accept and believe it, I still also can't wrap my head around everything that's been happening in the last few weeks," she replied honestly and Rogan was immediately confused.
"What could have been so hard about it? It doesn't seem to me like it's hard at all Alpha Kira," he responded in a somewhat teasing tone.
"Being an absent Alpha is already a terrible workload on me but what makes it worse is being an unwanted mate in a pack that hates my guts and would want me dead as soon as they found out I was here," she said to him, trying not to sound too upset and sad about her words.
"You know you can't exactly blame us though. Just as we would resent you, I'm pretty sure your people would too. It's like we were programmed to hate you guys and vice versa. Fortunately though, I don't feel any kind of animosity towards you at the moment," he told her honestly and Kira smiled.
"Thank you for the kind words Rogan. I too, have no animosity towards you and your people at all," she replied assuringly.
"If you do not mind me asking, would you like to tell me what it is that is bothering you? I know it's weird that I'm asking you and I'm not some kind of psychic or anything but I can just feel like you're bugged out by something just by looking at you. You know, if you have any issues and you ever want to talk, I'm most definitely available to talk to you. I know you're an Alpha and all and one can't exactly be friends with an Alpha just like that but, since I think we should be about the same age, I'm willing to be your diary whenever you need one,"
A lone tear escaped rolled down Kira's cheek as she remembered how her short conversation with Rogan had gone. He was the first person to find out about her existence in the pack alongside Marianne and the fact that he had treated her so well and even offered to be her friend really helped build her confidence and also made her very happy. She couldn't help but wish she hadn't left his side and let him get killed.
His last words to her had been that she had a bright future in the pack and that he could tell she was a good person.
Rogan was buried the next day after his death and everyone in the Alpha palace had mourned his death as they still could not believe he had been killed right under their nose.
The people of the Silvermoon pack cried out to Alpha Damien begging that he do something to end killings that had been putting different families in misery. A lot of them blamed their predicament on the Redmoon pack and vowed that a war would ensure no matter what.
Damien sat in his quarters balcony as different thoughts ran through his mind. Ever since Rogan's death, the reality of the situation his people were in hit him and he hadn't been able to sleep or eat well in the last couple of days.
"You know Damien, the more you act like this, the worse you're gonna end up feeling," a familiar voice spoke from behind him and the moment Damien heard the voice, he knew who it was without having to look back at the person to confirm.
"How did you come in?" he asked.
"To be honest, I didn't exactly get in here with permission of any sort. I got Marianne to distract a few guards and I snuck in cause I thought you'd be sitting here sulking like a child, which I wasn't wrong about and I wanted to come snap you out of it," she replied with a small smile, taking a seat on the empty seat beside him.
"You know Kira, never in a million years did I ever think that a time would come in my life where I'd feel so clueless and useless. It's almost like, I'm allowing my people to get killed because of my ignorance to the situation on ground," he told her honestly, feeling like a complete failure.
Damien wasn't one to openly show his weakness and slander himself like this but at this point, he just couldn't help it. He had been raised to always handle every problem as soon as they showed up and the fact that he still hadn't done anything concerning this in this long, made him feel very incompetent and undeserving to be called an Alpha.
Kira placed her hands on Damien's shoulder. "It's okay to be lost Damien, but you know what's not okay, sitting here and acting like you can never find a solution," she replied.
"What are you trying to tell me?" he questioned.
"I'm not trying to tell you anything Damien. I'm only trying to open your eyes to a reality that you're trying hard to avoid," she told him and Damien furrowed his brows in confusion.
"What reality are you talking about?" he asked and she smiled.
"No matter how we try to avoid it Damien, we have to prepare to go to war and it's time we fish out those bastards pretending to be one of us," she responded and Damien stared back at her, visibly confused.
