Chapter 41
Although the people of the Red Moon pack knew that Damien was Kira's mate, they still gave him a suspicious look when he arrived.
They all scrutinized him as he walked closer to Kira's place, whispering to themselves, an action which had not gone unnoticed by Damien.
"It seems the people do not welcome us too," Draco whispered to Damien.
"That's fine by me. It's obviously going to take a while to get used to it but I came here for another reason and I could care less about their reaction," he whispered back to Draco.
"Welcome Alpha Damien," Layla greeted Damien with a smile on her face.
She had not expected him to come all the way here and his sudden presence definitely took her by surprise.
"Thanks for having me, lady Layla," he replied as he followed her in.
"Inform Kira of Damien's presence," Layla whispered to one of the guards and he did as told.
Kira hurriedly came out to meet Damien. She had not expected him to come all the way to her pack.
She wondered what could have possibly brought him here as she had not really had time to think about him or his pack after she arrived back here.
"Damien," she called the moment she stepped into the room.
Damien raised his head up to look at Kira and at that moment, it was as if everything else stopped moving and it was just himself and Kira alone in the room.
His heart began to beat faster than usual the moment he laid his eyes on her and at the same time, he felt his stomach churn in discomfort when he saw her face.
He could tell she wasn't happy and something had happened to her. He immediately got up from his seat as he rushed to her side, touching her face with his hands while checking if she was hurt.
"What happened to you?" he asked worriedly his sudden gesture had taken Kira by surprise as she wasn't expecting him to be so touchy with her. She had almost lost her balance the moment he placed his hands on her but thankfully, he had a strong grip on her shoulders.
She had never seen Damien in this state before and his little gestures and reactions made her heart feel a lot less heavier.
"Were you crying?" he asked her, noticing her eyes and how swollen they seemed to be.
He was surprised to see her this way. He didn't think she'd be this much affected to the point where she'd cry to herself.
Kira removed his hands slowly from her face.
"I'm fine," she replied, trying not to show any sign of sadness as she removed his hands from her face.
"Are you sure? You are not hurt anywhere, are you?" he asked as he examined her body to make sure she had no injuries.
"I'm very fine," she assured him.
Damien was not very satisfied with her reply. He felt there was more to it that she wasn't telling him and it didn't sit well with him.
"Okay, if you say so," he replied hesitantly as he moved back from her a bit.
"What brings you here?" Kira asked after a while.
"Well, the news of your achievement travelled pretty fast. I heard you killed one of the creatures cursed by the sun and I came to check what it looked like," he tells her.
"I also came to see you and be sure you were fine," he added almost immediately, looking away, while rubbing the back of his neck with his hands.
Kira was taken aback by his words. Upon hearing he had come to check on her, she felt her heart flutter a little and she was somehow thankful he had showed up.
Everyday her feelings for Damien grew and it worried her because she knew deep down that he was never going to put her first and Sheila was the one he loved.
She cleared her throat as she tried to hide the blush that crept on her face. "As you can see I am fine," she replied.
"And yes I got to see the face of one of those bastards and I've officially challenged them," she told him proudly.
Damien smiled. "Didn't expect anything less from you," he replied proudly.
She felt her heart beat race rapidly again as she took his statement as a compliment.
"Where did you keep his body? I would like to see for myself what they look like," Damien said.
"Funny enough he actually isn't dead. I was only able to take him down but just like us werewolves, they also have the tendency of healing pretty fast so he is still alive but he is currently chained down. I only spread the rumor of his death so his people won't try to save him," Kira informed him.
Her revelation took Damien by surprise as he wasn't expecting to hear that they also had the ability to heal fast. It seemed as though there was more to them than they actually expected.
"Where is he?" Damien asked her.
"Follow me," she tells him as she walks away with Damien following closely behind her.
The room they had put the creature cursed by the sun in was pretty dark. He was chained to the ground and the moment Kira and Damien walked in, he raised his head up to look at them.
Damien brows rose in surprise as he had expected the creatures cursed by the sun to look more like actual monsters. The man chained to the group looked like an ordinary man except for the fact that he had really pale skin. On the side of his mouth, he had blood stains which proved he definitely wasn't an ordinary man.
"You mean this is what the creatures cursed by the sun look like?" Damien asked, a hint of surprise laced on his tone as he scrutinized him.
"Funny but true. If I hadn't seen him feeding on my childhood friend right in front of me, I would have doubted that they looked so normal. They pretty much drink our blood and from my observation, it seems their blood doesn't mix well with ours which is why we don't heal whenever they bite us. I also think that they survive by drinking blood," Kira informed Damien who walked closer to take a closer look at the creature.
"Creatures cursed by the sun? You said they were cursed by the sun which is why they do not walk around during the day right?" Damien asked and Kira hummed in reply.
Damien's eyes glanced at the window that was closed and he walked towards it. He looked at the creature cursed by the sun once again before he opened the window, letting the sun ray in and the creature cursed by the sun groaned in pain as the harsh sunlight burnt him.
Damien smirked. "Indeed they are cursed by the sun. We finally got a weakness," Damien tells Kira who realised what the sunlight had done to the skin of the man.
"If he is put under the sun now, there is a probability he would burn to death," Kira muttered.
"We can't do that yet. We need as much information as we can get from him and it seems they don't die that easily considering you had taken him down and you apparently slit a part of his neck," Damien tells her.
"That's true and all but I need to make sure I watch him burn to ashes with my very own eyes," Kira said as she clenched her fist and her action had not gone unnoticed by Damien.
Damien moved closer to her.
"How close were you to the victim?" he asked inquisitively as he saw how his death left a huge impact on Kira.
Kira's eyes filled with tears but she refused to let them out so she looked away.
"Just forget it," she tells him dismissively.
Damien placed his hands on Kira's shoulder. "I'm sorry for your loss," he whispered to her.
She felt her heart melt again from his words and his touch and not wanting to dwell on it, she immediately looked away.
"Let's leave," she told him and they left the room.
Later that night, Damien came to visit Kira in her chambers. He had not returned as he wanted to know more about these creatures cursed by the sun and analyse the situation with Kira.
"You are not asleep?" he said the moment he entered her room.
"What brings you here?" Kira asked as she covered her body shyly with a blanket to hide her thin fabric nightwear.
"I came to check on you. Couldn't sleep without knowing how you are doing," he confessed, genuinely concerned and hoping she had not continued to cry.
Kira was taken aback by his confession. Since when had it been a big deal for him to know if she had slept or not. It surprised her that he had even cared to ask because the Damien she knew could absolutely care less. Since he arrived, he had been acting differently and treating her very differently.
The skin between her brows creased in confusion as she stared at him.
"Thanks for checking on me Damien but I promise I'm fine," she said to him.
"I know," he replied her as he walked closer to her.
He sighed. Now he was standing closer to where she stood with a blanket wrapped around her. He held her hands in his sending shivers down her spine.
"I heard about the person that killed Kira and I know he was your childhood friend. A very close one too," Damien said.
"I know how it feels for someone to lose their loved one cause I've been there and it's a lot to handle. I just want you to know that it's okay to cry and express your loss. No one is gonna judge you for that," he said to her, hoping his words were encouraging enough.
She had been holding herself from crying as much as she did. It hurt her so much that images of Landon flashed in her head every time.
Tears filled her eyes as she stared back at him.
"You can cry," he tells her as he pulls her closer to him and her head rests on his chest.
She felt so warm and comfortable as she felt his big arms wrapped around her. She let the tears streamed down her cheek and cried out.
"It's going to be fine," Damien tells her as she cries.
After a while, she stopped crying. She felt at ease letting it out.
Kira pulled back from him slowly. "Thank you so much for letting me cry as much as I needed to," she said to him as she stared into his eyes.
He smiled at her. "How do you feel now?" he asked her.
"I can't say I'm completely fine but I can assure you that I feel much better than I felt earlier," she replied with a small smile and at that moment, it felt as if time had stopped moving as both of them stared at each other, almost like they were lost in each other's eyes.
Like a magnetic pull, they both leaned closer to one another, unable to move away and simply following their instinct.
Damien's hands were still firmly on Kira's waist as he leaned down closer to her face till his lips gently touched hers.
The moment their lips touched, they both felt fireworks in their stomach and the blanket that Kira had around her body fell to the ground as her lips and Damien's danced together in excitement.
