CHAPTER 13:

"Jake. What are you doing here?" I'm shocked and surprised, he clears his throat.
"I...um, you left this at my house," he holds my phone in his hand and I swallow, looking up
at him and taking my phone from his grasp.
"Thank you," I smile slightly.
"Who's this?" Someone's voice interrupts us, I turn around to face mum. She looks between
Jake and I with cocked eyebrows, I gulp. I know she's not going to care that I'm somewhat
friends with a guy, but dad will. And any other guy in my family. "Well?" Mum crosses her
arms over her chest when we don't answer.
"Oh this is my friend Jake, Jake this is my mum," Jake smirks slightly, why does he never
smile? It's irritating and handsome at the same time. Mum grins and walks closer to us,
extending her hand for a handshake.
"Hello, nice to meet you. Why don't you come in? Have some food and join our family," mum
invites him in and he nods too eagerly for my liking. Mum ushers us outside to the table filled
with everyone, everyone looks our way as we walk in with a new face. I watch my fathers
reaction as mum introduces Jake, "this is Faye's friend, Jake. This is the Gang Jake."
"Hello," he says politely. Dad narrows his eyes at our close proximity, it's Jakes fault he's the
one that decided to move really close to me. I side step away from him slowly and cough,
Amy stands and moves her chair over so we can fit another chair in between.
"Grab that chair Jake," mum points to a chair in the corner. Jake wanders over towards it
and I go sit down on my chair that I was sitting in before. Dad growls as Jake fits his chair in
between Amy and I and takes a seat.
"Jake, do you go to school with my daughter?" Dad grumbles distastefully. Jake stares at
him for a moment then replies.
"Yes actually, I do."
"So do you two like each other?" Nova asks.
"Is that even a question? Of course they like school other, look at them; young love, they're
so cute together!" Amalia exclaims in excitement. My eyes widen and the water that was in
my mouth comes right back out. Dad slams his fist on the table in anger, I can hear him
breathing heavily and I can practically see steam coming out of his nose and ears. He's livid.
"Dad-" he holds his hand up silencing me.
"I don't want to hear any of it!" He spits out through clenched teeth, my eyes widen. He
actually believes that Jake and I like each other? What a joke. I start laughing hysterically,
ruining the silence between everyone. "What's so funny?!" He exclaims.
"Y-you actually think that I like him!?" My eyes water and I cough, the aftermath of my
laughing fit.
"You two aren't dating?" Cadence questions in confusion. We both look at each other and
start cracking up laughing at their assumptions, I sense dad calming down. "So you're
friends?" I laugh even louder while he stops and everyone looks at me.
"You're not... friends?" Jarrad furrows his eyebrows, I'm about to open my mouth to say
something but Jake interrupts me.
"Yes, we are just friends," he emphasises.
I purse my lips and don't say a thing because of the quick glare he sends me, dad smirks.
"You sure that my daughter agrees that you two are friends? Her laughter kind of told me
different," dad chuckles.
"Yes she agrees," Jake answers for me. I take a sip of my drink as everyone stares at me,
waiting for me to spill the truth.
"Sure," I say. Titus raises his eyebrows at me and leans forward, resting his arms against the
table and looking at me in an intimidating manner. Luckily for me, he doesn't exactly intimate
me; I've known him my whole life. "Yes, we're friends," respond.
"Okay, but-" I cut dad off angrily by slamming my fist in the table.
"Quit it! Can we just continue eating our meal and stop all the questions?" Everyone goes
silent after I snap at them, moments later their conversations strike again but this time not
about Jake and I. I look at Brock and he smiles slightly, such a nice, caring boy that has
been through more pain than anyone else i know.

"I'm sorry about my family in there," I apologise feeling bad, I know that they are all a handful
at times. Especially then. Jake leans against his car and crosses his arms over his chest
after waving me off.
"Nah, it's all good. I'm sure all family is that protective and had that many questions when
they see a family member with a boy. I'd be the same if I had a sister," he smiles.
"So you're the protective type too, aye?" I judge him cheekily and playfully.
He chuckles, "that's even an understatement, Faye. When someone I love has been hurt by
someone, I will go out of my way to make their useless lives miserable."
I cock an eyebrow at his strong choice of words, "what if you had a girlfriend and she wasn't
in danger but she had guy friends?" I ask him in curiousness.
He smirks, "she wouldn't even have any guy friends because I'd scare them all off. Any guy
is a potential threat against me and my girl." I gasp, how can he think like that? I don't even
have any guy friends really only family friends who aren't even my friends, except Tyrese of
course. Other than that I hate Chad and the rest are practically younger. But if my boyfriend
tried to ban me from seeing Tyrese then I would literally die and probably break up with him.
Guys need to remember that we aren't some toys and puppets that they can control. We can
be friends with whomever we want to. Oh, plus there's Tyler and Max; I guess we're friends
now. Not too sure about Jake though, he's bipolar and annoying.
"And what if she were to defy you?" I cock my eyebrows up. He smirks and uncrosses his
arms, kicking off the ground and moving closer to me.
"Then I'd have to teach her a lesson," he whispers huskily in my ear making me shiver.

"How was your long weekend?" Mr Carter asks, I still don't know his first name. If I did, I
would just call him that instead of mr Carter to hopefully annoy him.
"It was interesting, how was yours?" I ask him.
He shrugs, "pretty good I guess."
"Can you continue on with your story? I haven't heard more in what feels like years and I'm
desperate to know what happens next," I eagerly lean forward, he sighs dramatically and
continues.
Flashback Mr Carter's pov
"She was amazing, literally the best 5 hours," Conrad smirks proudly at his
accomplishments.
"She might have been amazing in bed but she's a leech outside of it," Jonty comments,
snickering slightly.
"She won't be. We made an agreement that we only do it once, no feelings attached,"
Conrad says just as the leech herself comes down the hall and straight to us. I don't really
pay attention as she grips onto him like the leech she is, instead I look at something better.
The blonde haired, green eyed girl stares at the book in her hand while silently walking down
the corridor of the school. "Jeremy. You okay dude?" Jonty snaps me out of my trance, I
shake my head to rid my thoughts of her.
"Yeah... you guys go ahead, I'll catch up with you's later," I walk off not letting them say a
word. I follow her, feeling entranced by her. She's... no, don't say it Jeremy. Snap out of it!
She halts her movements and turns around, her eyes meeting mine as if she knew she was
being followed.
She sighs in annoyance, "are you following me?" I scoff at her true assumptions.
"This is my school to you know, just because someone's walking behind you doesn't mean
they're following you." She bites her lips and looks around me then back at me.
"Then where's the rest of your gang? They're usually following you everywhere," I growl after
she says this and move closer to her, towering over her frame in anger.
"They aren't my puppets, they're my mates," I say through clenched teeth.
"Sure they are," she says, sarcasm lacing her voice. I push her up against the wall, her
breathing hitches and her eyes widen.
"You don't know a f**king thing about me, Kate," her mouth parts and she looks for a way
out. But my arms stay around her, caging her.
"How do you know my name?" She asks, demanding for an answer.
I chuckle, "I know everyone's name sweetheart."
"I thought you didn't notice anyone but you and your two boys," I raise my eyebrows.
"I know everything about everyone, so if they mess with me I'll know their weaknesses and
their strengths and their past," She gulps and clenches her eyes.
"Do you know my past?" That's when I see it, the fear in her eyes, her hands are shaking
and I actually feel bad. That's when I realises, there's more to her than she lets on. Someone
hurt her and I'm going to find out who.
"Not yet."
Flashback over- Faye's Pov
"So your name is Jeremy! Finally! I don't have to call you mr Carter inside my head and out
loud, it's beginning to irritate me," Jeremy Carter. What a cool name. Almost as cool as Faye
Lacuna. But not quite there.
"Right..." he trails off.
"Are you still friends with Conrad and Jonty?" He clenches his eyes shut, something
definitely is wrong. "Jeremy?" I question softly.
"I'm still friends with Jonty, but in my heart I will always be great friends with Conrad," I
scrunch my eyebrows together.
"Did he betray you or something?"
"No. He saved me, then he died because of it."
