36- First night

-No, of course not -Antoinette said-. First we will find a replacement, and then we will kill her. But we have to find out what the hell is going on with the werewolves in this town. There is something strange about this place, and I want to find out what it is so I can rub it in the face of the Goddess Isis.

Seila knew what she had to do. After everything that had happened that night, she had no other choice. As she told her plans to
Seila she could not tell if she agreed with them or not. In the end, it did not matter. Mia had already made up her mind.

Once the mermaids had left, Mia explained to Seila the reasons why the mermaids had spared her life and let her
stay on an island where the Syrens lived. That was relatively easy compared to the task of
explaining to Theo what she had been involved in. She lied and told her father that she had only
snuck out to see the fireworks with Ignacio, but even that made him
very angry.
Theo stayed up late into the night, perhaps because of his anger,
but Mia slipped out as soon as she was sure he was asleep. She
made sure to tell Seila what she was going to do before she left, so that she
wouldn't be frightened by the empty room.
As she crept across the courtyard and climbed through the latticed window
of Ignacio, Mia could almost feel Seila's gaze from her bedroom window.
That was the condition. Seila was going to let Mia sneak out to talk to
Ignacio and not tell her father, as long as she could see her
everyone.
Crouched on the roof next to the window of the darkened room,
Mia pounded on the glass. After the night they had had, he was probably sleeping soundly, and she wanted to be sure to wake him.
The light in the room came on, casting a glare through the curtains. She
banged on the glass again, and Ignacio pulled the curtains back a few seconds later. He
rushed to open the window as soon as he saw her.

"What are you doing here?" Ignacio asked. His hair was disheveled, and he was only wearing his
boxers, so his muscular pectorals were exposed. "Do you want to come in?"

"No, I can't." He shook his head and tried to hold back the tears that were already
gathering in his eyes. "I just came for a second."

"What's wrong?" Ignacio leaned out the window and put his hand on her arm.

"What's wrong? Did something happen to you?"

"No. It's just that... I needed to see you."

"Why?"
-Because I love you - she whispered and before he could answer, she leaned down and
kissed him.
She wrapped her arms around him and hugged him tightly. When she finished kissing him, he
kept hugging her and she rested her head on his shoulder, holding back her tears.
-What's wrong, Mia? - Ignacio asked.
-Ignacio- Mia sang softly in his ear-. Ignacio. You're going to do what I tell you. -
She took a deep breath and waited for the song to take effect. - You're breaking up with me.
You don't want to hang out with me anymore. You don't want to be near me. You don't
care if I'm safe. You don't... - She paused-. You're not in love with
me anymore.
-Mia? - He sounded confused. He was holding her tightly, but he loosened
his arms and let her go.
-Do you understand me? Ignacio? - She pulled away from him and looked into his eyes-. Are you my boyfriend?
He scrunched up his face, his dark eyes filled with sorrow under the mist of the
spell. Then, finally, he shook his head.

"No. We broke up."

"That's it." She nodded.

"What are you doing here?" Ignacio asked. "Why did you come?"

"I didn't come." She wiped her eyes. "This is all a dream, and when you
wake up, all you'll remember is that you don't want to be with me."

Mia was unable to cope with that situation, so she turned around and went
out again. Ignacio was still standing by the open window, looking at her, and she told him to
close it and go back to bed. Before she saw if he had, she ran back
to her house and to her own room.

Maybe it wasn't enough for the sirens that she had convinced Ignacio that
he had stopped loving her. Even though Rossy had seen it and believed it to be true, perhaps
they would resent the fact that they could not experiment on him. And if Antonieta was
angry, she could take it out on him, or Mia, or Seila.
But she didn't know what else she could do. That night they had almost
killed her... again. And after seeing what Negani had done to Leo Lycan,
Mia knew it was only a matter of lifetimes and reincarnations before Ignacio would suffer the same fate if
he continued dating a mermaid. Especially considering what she had
done to Leo.
It was true that Antonieta could punish her or Ignacio for what had happened. But if he did
not break up with her and stay away, then there was no doubt that he would end up dead.
Besides, there were still quite a few riddles that mermaids could
obsess over. Seila had told Mia that Daniel was immune to
enchantment. Antoinette
