Chapter 39

Thinking of the idiot, Sean s eyes went to the end of the room at a certain sandy blonde hair who was laughing and chatting with his colleagues, the idiot that is confusing his Athena, he can t wait for the day that she would realize that he doesn t deserve her and no man deserve her, only him, only he deserves to be with her.
"Sean, you okay?" He heard and looked at his side to see TB looking at him with worry, his eyes went down to his glass and that was when he realized that he had a tight grip round it and that could shatter the class if he exert more force.
"Mm hmm," he nodded reducing his grip on the poor glass, glancing around the room; it was at that moment that he saw the platinum blonde hair with emerald green eyes.
"What is she doing here?" he heard TB cursed and chuckled, the two never gets along anymore.
"It s a party, Tobias; you don t think she wouldn t get the info like everyone else?"
"Well, is obvious she didn t just come for the party," he said and Sean looked at her to see that she was looking for something or rather, someone, "I bet she knows you are here."
"What s wrong in that?" He asked.
TB rolled his eyes, "I don t understand you, one minute I think you have it for Athena and the next you just act like you always do," he walked back to his boyfriend, missing the shock that flashed in Sean s eyes. If Tobias could say that, is he that obvious?
He wasn t able to get to the answer for a singsong like voice said to him, "figured I would find you here," he looked up to meet the smiling face of Esperanza, "can I join you?"
Sean nodded and she took the space next to him, he was sitting on a couch that could contain four people but because of his status, he has been sitting on it alone since he arrived with TB coming and going. "I wasn t expecting to see you."
"I was at the Famous, the party there wasn t as it used to be then I heard about this one and knew you would be here, after all, Emperor is a dear friend to you, it s a must you would be here at the opening of his club."
Sean chuckled; he sipped his drink and watched the dancing people.
"Where is Leo?"
"He would be here soon."
"Oh," she replied, taking an empty glass and filling it with the wine on the table, she sipped from it and sat, observing just like him. From afar, they looked really good together and she knows that, which was why she tries to act as more as him so that people could see their resemblance, even her fans has given them a name, Seanza, and she loves it a lot.
Her eyes met a certain green ones but she looked away without a second thought. Frank wasn t surprised seeing her there but he has been wondering where Athena was and why she wasn t with Sean, aren t they supposed to be dating? Why would Sean let Esperanza sit with him and act as if they are together? Is he cheating on Athena with her? He knows breaking them apart is their plan but if Sean is cheating on Athena, then he doesn t have much work to do. He lost interest in the discussion his colleagues were having and focused on them, not wanting to miss any interesting thing that might happen between them, something that he could use against him on Athena.
Esperanza kept talking to Sean, telling him about her recent achievements and constantly running her fingers on his thigh to appear as if they are having a lovey-dovey discussion. She would laugh at some things she said which Sean doesn t consider funny a times but he would just let her go ahead. At least her presence stopped the ladies from approaching him, that makes it a little preferable but he wouldn t say he liked her constant touch, in a way, it was irritating him and that has never happened before. New mystery he just uncovered.
The sudden pause at every movement made him look at the door, in a party, only he and one other generates such attention and in his mind, he already knew that Leo has arrived but what he didn t expect was to see the lady clinging on his arm. They both looked striking together and for the first time in his life, Sean noticed a strange feeling arousing deep within him. He wanted to punch Leo on the face, drag the woman away or better still kiss her with everyone watching and claim her as his. The content of his thoughts surprised even him, Leo is like an elder brother to him and the force of hitting him made him wonder what was going on with him.
Is he going crazy? But even though he tried to think rationally, he still hated the fact that Leo was taking his place of standing beside her. The most hilarious thing was that while he was enveloped in his jealousy, he didn t think of the basic thing, how come she is with Leo instead of being in a party with Gloria? And when he finally did, his brain exploded, she couldn t have taken a liking to Leo, right?
This time, it was hard for Sean to control his thought and so he stood up immediately, scaring Esperanza who was still wondering what Athena was doing there. He strode to his friend and forced a smile on his face but even though he tried so hard, his smile was still wavering as he kept glancing at where Athena was holding his arm and cursing loud in his head.
Control yourself, Sean! His subconscious screamed at him just as he was before them, it was only then that he saw Gloria, clinging onto his second arm and he saw the laugh that was threatening to escape from his friend s lips and then, only then did he realize that Leo had played him and he was angry at him, relief but mostly angry at himself for almost behaving irrationally.
"Oh come on," Leo whined when he noticed that Sean had figured out his plan, he hasn t had enough fun yet, he was already preparing his cheek for a punch when Sean was stomping towards them.
Sean smiled, "not today, Leo."
"But I almost got you, damn, for the first time in history," he laughed, at last, it was really great to finally laugh.
Sean chuckled and the two friends shook hands while the two ladies wondered what they were talking about.
To Athena, Sean has done nothing out of the ordinary, he had seen them and came over to greet them, Leo s plan didn t work and she was surprised at her disappointment. She had been secretly waiting to see his reaction but all she got was his normal attitude.
Gloria hadn t believed anything would happen and so she didn t bother watching Sean s reaction and had been busy watching the grooving people and was waiting till she would join them.
But even though the two women with him hadn t noticed anything, Leo had seen Sean battling with his emotion and thoughts and even though it was fun for him, he had been surprised, never had he seen Sean behave like that for any woman and that left him asking, how far has his friend gone with this girl and yet unaware of it? He wondered when he would finally stop lying to himself if it would be too late for him. And for Sean s sake, he hoped it wouldn t be late because even Sean deserves a little happiness because only he knows that in as much he smile and laugh, deep in his heart, there is an emptiness that only a loved one could fill.
