Chapter 55

Athena froze when she heard that, the image that flashed in her mind was Sean lying on the street, bleeding and calling for her to help him. "Athena?" TB s voice rang in her ear and mind, "Athena!"
"TB, is he badly hurt, which hospital is he in? I m coming there right now, are they performing a surgery on him? Oh my God!" she was already crying and Fred was worried for her but he has to wait for the call to be over for him to know what was happening.
"What? No!" TB said, "Jesus, girl, stop imagining the worse."
"What do you mean? You just said he had an accident."
"I did, but it s not as bad as the scenarios you are imaging," he snorted, "Sean had been in accident, yes and he told me himself, the problem is that he refuse to go to the hospital, I don t know what that guy has against hospitals, seriously. We need to get him to a hospital so that he would have a check up, he looks fine but what about internal injury?"
Athena felt her heart that had jumped over the moon in fear returning back to her after what he said, "He refused to go to a hospital?"
"Yes, he said he is perfectly fine and he is not giving away money to any hospital, that guy is crazy, going to hospital means giving away money."
Athena heaved a deep sigh, at least he was still able to speak and make his funny jokes, that means he is okay but TB was right, what if he had an internal injury and if not treated now would result to a bigger problem in the future? She would never survive if anything happens to him, "where is he?"
"He just left the office, he said he is going home. You think you can talk to him?"
"I will try my best."
"I m sorry for involving you in this, At."
"No, I m happy you need, I will never forgive you if you hadn t."
TB chuckled, "alright then, you need to hurry up so you would get home before him, he might not let you in if he is home first, knowing what you have come to tell him."
Athena sighed and closed her eyes, it hurts her that they weren t as they used to be and she just hopes that there was a way she could fix things, "I know, I will be on my way now."
"Alright, I will call you back later."
"Okay," she nodded and the call disconnected.
"What happened?" Fred asked.
"Sean had been in an accident," she answered.
"Whoa, hope it s not something serious."
"That s what we are hoping, he had refused to go to the hospital," she sighed, "I m sorry Fred but I have to go."
"I know, let me drop you off," he offered.
"I m sorry but I can t wait for us to go back to get your car, I will just take a cab," she rejected softly.
Fred smiled, "it s okay, tell Mr. Brand to get well soon."
Athena nodded and stopped the passing taxi immediately, she told the driver where she was going and as she was about to get into the car, she turned to Fred, "thanks for your words, Fred, I really needed someone to talk to me."
"Anytime," he smiled and she returned the smile before getting into the cab.
As the car parked in front of the gigantic gate of the mansion, she sighed, she could remember the first time she came there, how getting into the house had been difficult for her, then she had lived in it and moved out yesterday and have returned to being a guest, she just hopes Sean hasn t told Rodger and the rest to never open the gate for her. She climbed out of the car after paying the driver and watched as it drove away before walking close to the gate to ring the bell. As she rang the bell, she waited for Rodger to answer to it and looked around the lonely neighborhood.
When she saw Sean s Black Mercedes Benz approaching, her heart missed a beat and when Rodger pulled down the camera to see her, she didn t even bother anymore. Rather than opening the smaller gate, he opened the big gigantic ones; obviously he had seen Sean s car approaching. The car stopped in front of her and the backseat window lowered to reveal that beautiful face she had come to care for so much, his hazel eyes revealed surprise, worry before becoming emotionless.
She thought he was going to ask her straightforwardly what she was doing there but to her surprise, the door opened and he stepped down but he didn t approach her, neither did she walk up to him. "Is there a problem?" he asked, his voice cold but an atom of worry laced it.
"TB called," she answered and saw him roll his eyes, "he said you were in an accident."
"And I m standing right before you aren t I?" he asked and then after a while, he continued, "it was a minor stuff, Smith didn t see the other car on time, it was just a scratch. Look at the car, it only left a dent, so that should prove to you that I m okay," why was he explaining? He asked himself, he had said he wouldn t when she talked about it but rather he had rambled on like a child. He frowned at that, couldn t he have answered with 'I m fine and that would be over?
Athena saw the dent on the car after he mentioned about it, she nodded once more in relief, "but, don t you think you should have a check up? You know, to check for any internal injury."
"It was just a scratch; I don t need to give away money."
"You are not the stingy type," she frowned.
"I am when it comes to hospitals," he replied.
"Why?" She was genuinely curious.
Sean stared at her for some second and said, "You have checked up on me and you have seen I m fine, so you can leave now."
Surprised by the sudden change in him, she closed her eyes and let out a deep breath, "Sean, just because I left doesn t mean we have to be enemies, we can still be friends."
"We are friends, if we were enemies, you wouldn t be standing there."
Athena bit her lip while nodding, "will you go to the hospital?"
"Why do you care?" he asked.
She looked up at him, wanting to say many things but ended up with, "because you would do the same for me."
Sean scoffed and shook his head softly, it wasn t the answer he hoped to hear and he was disappointed, "well, you have cared enough, I m fine, so you can leave now."
"Sean, don t push me away, I m worried about you."
He glanced at her, his hazel eyes spoke of so many things but all he said was, "I believe you now have someone to direct your worry to, as for me, I m perfectly fine and I would need my rest, goodbye," he didn t wait for her to say any other thing and got back into the car. The car drove into the house and Rodger looked at her before closing the gates.
Staring at the big gates before her, Athena couldn t find the strength to walk away, she kept going through their conversation in her mind, Sean had blacklisted her, he treats her just like every other person, no special treatments anymore, no greeting her with a smile and all of this changed in one night? He abandoned her in one night?
No, he didn t abandon her, she left, and she left on her own freewill.
What is she to do? How is she to fix things between them? How is she to make things better, she did not just fail in winning his heart, she had lost him as a friend as well. What is wrong with her? Why is pain the only thing she is familiar with? Why did the city bring her nothing but pain?
When living in the slums, she had been happy, but coming to the city only brings her happiness and takes it back, then it would leave her to suffer the pain alone. Should she go back to the slums? Would she pick her life up when she does? Obviously she can t stand Frank and Fred was right, her mother would not love her to be unhappy all because she was keeping her promise. So what is she to do? The best option is to leave, go back to the slums and pick up the broken pieces of her heart. But she would only do that after the shoot on Wednesday, she would not disappoint Sean by not showing up.
Immediately after the shoot, she would pack her bags and she would return back to her home, the only place that truly accepted her, the city is not for her, she knows that now. Coming to that decision, she looked up at the big gates, hoping she would see him and tell him her plans but of course, he might not want to hear it. She heaved a deep sigh; she would definitely miss living there, that she knows. She turned then and walked away, not bothered to hail down a taxi.
Back in the house in the security room, the man sitting on the chair and had been watching her throughout the time she was standing in front of his gate sighed and got up, with a deep sigh, he left the security room and went up to his.
