Chapter 12 REMINISCENCE, A STRANGE ENCOUNTER.

CONTINUATION…
After a few more pages of thrilling and interesting takes about the humans that could transform into powerful wolves, Sir Nich retired back to his work and I was left with the book in hand. He had read to me some more pages of the book and I had learnt that the Lobos or Lupine human, bread with ordinary humans and increased their numbers in mass. They had extended life spans of about two hundred years and aged rather slowly.
Although Sir Nich told me time over time that the tales of the Lupine humans were myths and were made up millennia ago as folk tales, I still thought that they could be a truth to it. I looked at more and more pictures of the creatures and Sir Nich had told me that they draw their energy from the moon light. He had also told me that a Lupine human would be able to transform into a Lobo at day time but will revert back to its human form when the power it had drawn from the moon runs out.
If what these legends were saying were true, then that means that they could be a pack of hundreds of thousands of Lobos somewhere, waiting to release a full on attack on the vampires. I schemed through more pages, catching more drawings a huge wolf beast and seeing more and words I could not understand that captivated my interest.
I couldn't help but wonder how many more takes of creatures like this existed. The Lupine humans were rather interesting to read about and I saw more and drawings if the large wolf. They ate other animals, raw, but in their human firms they ate amongst the people, eating ordinary human food. As a Lobo they could run as fast vampires and had extreme strength.
I glanced through a few more pages, drinking in any information I could about them and asking Sir Nich to translate some pages that I thought had something juicy that could satisfy my curiosity, but the more I knew about them, the more I wanted to know. It was like reading about them only boosted my curiosity rather than satisfying it.
I turned out to have learned more about a mythical creature rather than about our history. But what was there to learn anyway, we all originated from the great Lord Dracula, as that is what history tells us and we drink blood. Once you knew that, there was really nothing else to know.
Time flew by and I heard a knock on the door. Jereum opened the door and walked in. he greeted Sir Nich with the same enthusiasm as the first time and I knew it was time to go home.
'I hope you do come back again sometime, Kaldar," Said Sir Nich and I nodded in response. Jereum exchanged some words with Sir Nich but I still remembered the way out so I started to walk down the long corridor until I reached the door. I opened it and started my walk across the vast room. And adjudicator stood at the main door.
I stopped right in front of the vampire and then quickly realized that it was the girl from earlier and worse to my knowledge, the adjudicator who had whooped me in this very building.
'You need to be with higher authority to exit the building." Her voice was bold with authority yet the malicious smirk she wore on her face told a different story.
‘What? I could just push her aside and pass—'
'Don't even think about it, you think you are the only with Supreme abilities?"
And then it dawned on me that I was talking to a Supreme who also had the ability of the mind's-eye.
I dropped my voice to a whisper. "What's your problem with me?" I asked, and I saw the devious smirk on her face get even more devious... If that made any sense.
'No clearance, no passage," She said again, even more boldly this time.
'You don't understand, I am with Jhan—"
'I don't see him," She said.
Whether she just wanted to annoy me or prove a point was up to time, soon Jhan would come through those doors and clarify the issue so I decided to wait it out. And just as I thought, Jhan walked through the doors not long after and I felt a tinge of pride as he approached us.
He nodded to her and she stepped aside, still not taking off gaze from mine. Once we were out of the building we both got to the minivan and Jhan started the long drive home.
It was silent for some minutes, a calm peaceful silence.
'Did you learn anything?" He asked.
I kept my head pressed against the glass, looking straight out into the Misty view.
'Yeah—Jhan do you know anything about the Lupine Humans?" I asked, not taking my head from the window.
Ten seconds passed then twenty, and I wondered if he trying to recollect all he knew about the creatures.
'The Lupine Humans are a well-known myth Kaldar, and the humans may even call them the werewolf," He said.
'But… Do you think they could be any kind of truth to their existence?" I asked.
'That's like asking me there is truth behind the existence of dragons."
'Oh... I just thought that… Never mind," I resented to just staring out the window and keeping my thoughts to myself.
'Although."
And my head shut up from the window, ears alert and eyes wide.
'I did once have an encounter with a human that was very strange," He said, and I adjusted the way I sat, looking straight at the back of his headrest.
'Once a very long time ago, when it was fair to still call me a boy. I had just been impurified by a rouge vampire. I was locked up in an attic for a whole year so that I could adjust to my new abilities and refrain from incidentally tampering with people's thoughts.
'Once the higher court deemed me free I was incorporated into their group of survey elites. One night, we were on patrol as usual, I was one of the four that took the east quadrant, which is where I built our house, when I saw a particular woman.
'She was totally naked and walking in the shadows, all the watchers had been dismissed and only I was in this part of my quadrant, so followed her. She was limping from one limb and seemed desperate to get to get to a particular place.
'I kept to the top of the buildings, careful not to make any sounds as I stalked her. I was peering down at her from a building when she turned suddenly. I was much trained so I hid away. I don't remember how long I hid but when I looked back over the building she was gone.
'I followed the scent she left behind and tracked it to a faraway place called East valley. By then East Valley was indeed a valley with beautiful trees and shrubs. East valley was the home to many animals, animals that I used as food.
'The scent disappeared within the shrubs, as the fumes they produce can mask the scent of any creature. I returned back to my quadrant, keeping my experience to myself as I knew it was of no significance and no one would believe me anyway, but till this day, East valley has been known as a place of many vampire disappearances," He said, and I wondered how such a bizarre incident could be considered insignificant.
He continued, 'It became a major concern to the higher court so they declared a decree, banning all vampire activities from the place and making it an outlawed area to the vampires."
He finished off, leaving thousands of goose bumps on my neck.
'Do you think that she was a—"
'Werewolf? A Lupine human? Well I wouldn't know for sure Kaldar, as newly impurified vampires tend to act in the same animalistic way—not being able to control their urges."
I thought about it for a while, he could be right that it was just a crazed vampire. But what if it wasn't, what if the Lupine humans were real and they were planning an attack on the vampires or what if they already have planned their attack and we're advancing as that very instant.
The thoughts were bad enough to bring chills to my already cold body so I resented to not thinking about it. But I still had an edged curiosity, one that I knew I would never be able to satisfy unless I go to that East valley.
'Jhan where is East valley?" I tried my best to make the question sound like it was out of boredom not out of the blazing curiosity that burned in me.
The car swerved to a stop, Jhan turned back, eyes wide. 'Do NOT go to East valley Kaldar, not only is it dangerous but it is also outlawed by higher court decree," He said with a bold tone, fatherly tone and it was at that moment that I saw the clear resemblance I shared with Jhan, not only were we both dark skinned, but we had the same high cheek bone, same bushy eye brows, same full lips and same jaw line.
He turned back and continued the drive.
'So does that mean that you won't tell me or…" I trailed off, knowing that it is better to stay off the topic if he didn't want to talk about it.
But he surprised me. 'East valley is at the other end of town, a road that links our town nearby ones runs straight through it now. The hills of the valley have been greatly deteriorated due to human expansion, and use for resources over the years," Jhan said.
'Oh, I see." I knew that he may be able to peek into my head so cleared my mind and focused on getting home. I knew I would go to East valley someday the question was when.
We drove in silence, and I remembered Dawn. I missed her more than anything and I knew that I needed to see her.
'Maybe tomorrow," I thought. I'd go at night, when the others aren't at home, and return before they get back. She would be happy to see me, and I will tell her not to come to my house on any occasion, lest I want us to be discovered.
The tar passed under the car and in no time I saw the light blue blur of Dawn's house, Jhan took a right and I knew that our house was just up ahead. I saw a few people walk on the sidewalks. I wished cloudy days would come more often so I could take a walk with Tia around the block someday.
She didn't always go on patrol with Jhan and Jereum; sometimes she would rather stay back at home, to read a book.
'What better way is there to enjoy immortality than read all the literature it has to offer,' she'd say.
We were fast approaching the house and I knew that as soon as I got in, it was straight to sleep. And maybe dream about the werewolf.
Till Dawn Breaks
