Chapter 44 THE DEATH OF A TRUE LEADER.

CONTINUATION…
I was totally lost in her Beautiful appearance. Her skin was a rich brown colour that seemed to be polished and had a shine to it. Her eyes were large and had a light brown colour. Her hair was coily and snowy white. The opposing colours of her skin and hair made her stand out from the others.
She had been saying something but I had zoned her out. A small smile on my face as I assessed her. I saw the slight look of confusion on her face.
"—hello? Are you still there?"
I snapped back to reality.
"Oh...err...yeah. Yeah, I'm still here."
I looked at the others, Jereum was now narrating the story of how he single handedly took down Dallas to the other boys and Tia seemed to be having a lot of fun with Jabari.
"What's your name?" She asked.
'No, I won't tell her. I'm gonna brush past her and walk away. I won't tell her my name, I won't tell her my name—'
"It's Kaldar."
'Hell!'
"Nice to meet you Kaldar." She stretched out a hand and I took it. She was about Tia's height, who was about Dawn's height. They were all about the same height.
'I won't ask her for her name, now I'm actually gonna brush past her and go to where Jhan is—'
"What's your name?" I asked. She smiled lightly, two deep dimples forming at her cheeks.
"I'm Nicha. But my wolf name is Snow."
I needed a way to make the conversation go south.
"So let me get this straight. You were that white wolf who wanted to eat me?"
I saw the expression on her face change and she suddenly became nervous.
"I-I didn't—"
"But you were right there when the brown one wanted to bite my head off?"
"He wouldn't have, he was just pretending. We were gonna capture you and take you to our leader..."
"Yeah, that's right."
I did what I had in mind. I brushed past her and walked away. Towards the larger hut. I heard it but it was too late. The sound of paws against the ground before a snowy white wolf pounced on me.
"Whah?!"
'Arrow!!!' She bellowed in my head.
"Whah?!" I was confused. "Can you get off me now?" I asked, anger and a phantom heat flooding through my veins. I didn't even need to ask, in a loud crack I was standing beside her, leaning against her side.
"You know one of the good things about being a vampire? Everyone else is just very slow, it's annoying."
'Get down!'
She snapped at her side with her jaws. I moved just a little bit back so there was only about a foot of space between us. I saw the look of urgency in her light blue gaze when I patted her about and said, "Good dog."
"Okay I'm tired of this, call me back when you are no more a pup..."
I was already walking away, whistling a catchy tune that Leya always hums whenever she is carried away in doing something Leyaish, like watering her plants, or cooking something, or just wants to annoy Jereum who for some reason hates the tune, when I heard the sound of an arrow being fired.
It took me only a second to get in front of the white wolf and I felt the lancing pain as the arrow embedded itself in my right shoulder.
"Whah?!" Was what I said whenever I was confused.
"That's she meant by arrow..." I realized.
I heard the sound of another being fired and carcked to the front of a woman who apparently did not hear or see it coming. In less than a second more there was a full rain down of arrows upon the village, people's terrified screams filled the air and they scattered into the safety of their houses. I immediately spotted several red robed vampires on the trees above.
I saw Jereum, he was punching down a tree that several adjudicators stood upon and Tia was helping him. Jabari, Tom and Cole where now in their wolf form and they jumped at any red robed vampire that was at their reach.
"What is this? Why would the higher court stage an attack? Didn't they remember what I had told them?"
I spotted the female adjudicator that always got on my nerves, she had two knives wielded and a devilish smile.I ripped the arrow from my arm and in a crack I had leaped up the tree and punched her down. She hit the ground hard but quickly regrouped herself.
We had our own private fight, based on hate and resentment. She was good, too good. She slashed at me with the silver blades and I did all I could to avoid her attacks. Dodging and ducking and in the worst cases, blocking with my hands and receiving a deep heated slash.
She was on the attack. She was a Supreme one even with the mind's-eye so I tried my best to keep my plans at the back of my head. She lifted herself into the air, twisting sideways and throwing her boots at my face, I dodged just in time and her boot slammed against a tree. Destroying off part of its stem and causing the tree to fall over.
There a second pause when we both looked at the tree and then back at ourselves before she continued her assault. It was a struggle to keep up this fight and I knew very well that she'll soon slice of my head and it will be over for me.
'Duck!' It was the bold voice of Nicha. I ducked just as she said and I saw a blur of white as the white wolf slammed its head to the adjudicator which was sent tumbling back helplessly through the air. The adjudicator leaped onto a tree, she grabbed her bow that had been anchored to her back and released an arrow.
I predicted the path of the silver tipped spear as it sliced it way though the air. I saw Alzaraq, he had just stepped out of his hut and looked on in rage. The arrow was heading straight for his head.
"NO!" I bellowed.
I sped from the place I stood, the arrow had a great head start.
'He can't die, at least not in the hands of a vampire...'
Everything around me was a blur as I ran with determination. The arrow was heading straight for his head, it would instantly kill him. I got closer and closer to the speeding arrow. It was only about a foot from his forehead.
'I'm gonna fail... He's gonna die and then we would truly be the demons that brought death to their land.'
Alzaraq was only an inch away from death when I pushed myself off the ground and reached a finger to the back of the arrow. I felt like I was suspended in the air for hours, maybe days. I felt the very tip of my finger touch the side of the arrow and then I fell face down.
The arrow embedded itself a centimeter away from Alzaraq's head, living the old man shaken and the villagers who saw what had happened in greater shock. I had succeeded. I cracked away, running up the slope and back to where the female adjudicator was. Most of the other red robed vampires had retreated away in defeat leaving just her and a few others which were backing away slowly.
I saw Jabari, Tom, Nicha and Cole, the wolves inched slowly to the adjudicators that were a large distance from where I stood at the edge of the cliff.
The look on the female adjudicators face was of pure anger and defeat.
"It's over! Take your soldiers and go—"
I heard the crack but I didn't know who it came from and I felt the sharp tip of something being pressed against my chest and then I felt the destructive force of a large hunk of wood as it was forced into my chest.
I couldn't talk, I just looked at the adjudicator in shock. She wore a contented smile on her face. All the energy I had in me was quickly drained away. She grabbed my arm and pulled me closer to her, pushing the large stake slowly deeper into my chest. I felt it slowly tear away at the muscles and break apart the bone. She pushed it through me so slowly, wanting to savour every moment that I suffered in her hands. The pain I felt was unbearable, it was like a large hot knife was slowly being pushed into your chest.
I looked down, there was a huge chunk of wood that stuck out from me. She held my arm tighter and then punched the end of the stake and I felt it as it protruded out from my back, excavating through me. Blood spurted then spilled out from my nose and mouth and my vision went blurry.
I dropped to my knees in front of her, looking up at my killer. She wore an even more contented smile now. It was so quick, she stabbed at my right shoulder with her silver blade and I felt that also protrude from the other side.
She grabbed my throat, squeezing hard on my neck and she brought her head closer to mine. "I'm gonna enjoy this..." She whispered to me before lifting me off the ground and suspending my body over the height of the slope.
"I always wanted to kill you, since the day you humiliated me at the higher court. I've anticipated it for a long time!" She jumped into the air, turning around and sending her silver boot to the side of my face. I felt the sting of the silver as it touched my skin. It felt like I fell for days. The life in me draining away. I hit hard ground and rolled onto my back. My vision was worse than a blur and I closed my eyes as I felt my body disintegrating. I was dying. There was nothing they could do now. And in a moment I was gone. She had killed me.
