Chapter 15 A LITTLE BIT OF LEYA.

THURSDAY
LEYA'S P.O.V.
I never slept with my eyes closed; it wasn't actually sleep kind of like a temporary shutdown of my body but not my mind so I woke up with my eyes open. Breathing in the fresh fumes from the plants that occupied my room. The light from the sky outside was still grey. I faked a yawn before hopping down from my bed. The grey watering can on the shelf was still full of water. I picked it up and titled it over the plants in my room. One by one until I was done with them all.
Next I popped into my bathroom and took a warm water shower, humming a nursery rhyme as I did so. Once I was done I picked out any random little dress from my wardrobe. I never wore a dress twice and Jhan kept on bringing home newer dressed for me. The ones I had worn I'll keep in an open box beside my bed. Jhan would carry them out at the end of the month and give them to the girls at the orphanages.
The dress I picked was blue, with little yellow flowers all over it. I liked it. Next I picked out my little white sneaker-shoes—that's what I called them—and threw on my yellow hooded rain coat. I picked up my school bag and made for the stairs.
Jhan offered to drop me off in the minivan but I preferred walking. I met Kaldar at the start to the small corridor that led outside.
"Isn't this a bit too early?" I asked him. He was taken aback. He wondered how I moved so quietly but I had no technique I just walked.
"Oh, err...Leya. it's just you."
"Drained the flask in the kitchen?" I asked him.
"Yeah," He said.
I sighed.
"Goodbye Kaldar." I walked past him and I heard him heave as I exited the house. I started down the street, keeping to the sidewalk. I walked a distance before making a right turn and going into a small dead end. I glanced over my shoulders once, ensuring that no one was passing at that moment before I leaped and grabbed hold of the top of the fence. It was about ten meters high but that wasn't a problem.
I climbed upon it and then jumped for a bannister at the building to the left, throwing myself higher and higher an grabbing more and more bannisters until I got atop The building. I jumped forward and in the opposite direction of the dead-end, landing another roof. I kept my head low as I ran and in no time I had skipped three blocks.
There was no dead end between this building and another so I dropped down the large height and landed. I crossed the street and got to the gates of my school. No one was here yet so I resorted the time to going to class and just waiting. School started by seven but I always arrived here by five. I sleep-moded the remaining hours and in no time more kids had flooded into the class. I wasn't th only vampire in my class, there were ten of us; eight girls and two boys.
We, the girl, sat at the very front. There were four rows so we occupied the first eight seats. We were by far the smartest kids in the class but I didn't know if that had anything to with the fact that we were vampires or not. The two boys, Dan and Jack, sat at the very back. There were bright as well but took most of their time to whispering hilarious jokes at such a low voice only we the vampire could hear them.
I had only close friend, her name was Kayla but I called her Ayla. She was the youngest of her all female clan. She always kept her dark brown hair in an afro, she had full lips and big eyes and her dark skin was flawless. She was beautiful.
We talked about boys and other things that kids of our age shouldn't talk about and I had seen her kiss boys on many occasions. She'd always use her mind's-eye to make them forget about it in the end though.
The maths teacher came. I didn't know his name, or I didn't care. He started on the topic he had left off from yesterday. I could hear all their whispers if I wanted to, but I chose to leave people's privacy to themselves.
"We'll teach Dave a lesson he'll never forget..."
The voice was a whisper from the back, it was from Dan. Dave was a human boy in my class, he had black hair, a yellowish tinge to his skin and slit eyes. He wasn't the only one, two other vampire girls in my class were Asian as well. Dan loved getting on Dave's nerves and Dave knew how to annoy Dan back. Dave was funny and most of the girls in my class liked him. I think that's what made Dan angry.
Once class was over and it was time for recess we went outside but sat at a small shaded corridor.
"Don't mind what Dan was saying," Kayla said as she appeared at my side.
"He's dangerous," I said back.
Dan played pranks on other kids and used his mind manipulation to get out of trouble.
"He's a jerk, but he won't hurt anyone," Kayla said.
"I hope so." I sighed.
Most of the others kids played around. The sun was out now. I couldn't play like them but who needed to play dumb games with humans when I could do more fun things they could dream of.
"So... You have a new blood?" Kayla asked.
"Oh, well. Yeah." I said, she must have been talking about Kaldar. They weren't many dark skinned vampires in this part of town so Jhan and Kaldar were kinda like rare.
"I saw what they did to him at the higher court. That was really bad," She said.
I remembered the time Kaldar had been beaten at the higher court. I couldn't watch so I had turned my head away and closed my eyes.
"Is he okay?" She asked.
"Yes, he recovers quickly from injury," I told her.
I saw Dave, he was sitting under a tree. Sketching with a pencil on a small jotter. He loved drawing. I watched him for a little while.
Dan was and Jack were sitting under a tree at the opposite side of the large field. They were too far away and they were whispering about something I couldn't make out over the loud ruckus the kids were making.
Dan was holding a basketball, which was weird because he never played. He whispered something to jack before sniggering and in a quick wave of hand, he threw the basketball at Dave.
Kayla was still talking on about something I had zoned out of a long time ago. I watched the ball fly through the air in slow motion.
"Ayla, cover me."
"What?" She asked.
In a loud crack I had ran from where I was, moving so quickly. I pushed the speeding object, changing its course, and returning to where I was. Unseen.
I heard it before I saw it, the sound of an object speeding through the air towards me. I flung my arm out, catching the ball without even looking at it. It was a large basketball.
I glared at Dan. He was smirking. I wanted to destroy him but I'd rather not do that here. The bell sounded and all the kids started pouring back into the building. I had my eyes fixed on Dan, but as a kid passed in front of my line of sight, he was gone. He and Jack were gone.
He always did that. Disappearing behind objects. He'd actually just run away very quickly when you aren't looking. I got back to class. Dave took his usual seat and Dan and Jack were glaring at the back of my head.
School was finally over and Kayla bid me goodbye as she one of her clan members, a young beautiful woman, strolled over to where we sat. Holding an umbrella aloft.
Kayla ducked under the protection of the black umbrella. I watched them walk away. Dan appeared at my side.
"Someone could have seen you, you know." He wasn't looking at me, his eyes were fixated on the spot Dave had been sitting.
"I had Ayla to cover me," I defended myself.
"An amateur, Kayla can barely read minds. That was reckless."
"Well, throwing a ball at someone's head is dangerous."
"It was just gonna be a funny prank," He defended himself.
"You can't keep on doing like that—"
"Oh, so now you're his guardian angel or something?"
"No, I'm his guardian vampire."
I heard Jack scoff from behind me. He was the loser amongst them. Dan was the cool one while Jack was like his crony.
"Don't you boys have something else to do?"
"We are same as you, stuck here until evening or until someone comes to pick us up."
Dan was the youngest member of the Dallas clan. He always wore a black hoodie, black shoes and trousers. The members of his clan cared less about things like picking him up from school or dropping him off in the first place.
Jack was the youngest of a group of all boys that their leader had once taken an interest in Tia.
Rain clouds covered the sky. I was grateful.
"Alright boys, I gotta go." I stood and made to leave. Dan held my raincoat.
"What?"
"Stay out of my business Lii."
He always called me that. I didn't actually like it but I never complained.
"Leave the humans alone pretty face."
I knew that's all he wanted. His eyes grew wide in joy. And once I was a distance away I heard him laughing in triumph with Jack.
Kayla had told me that he liked me but I didn't really believe her. Until he tried to kiss me some days ago but that only earned him a punched to his nose. He then apologized, saying it was a mistake.
I got to the gap between the buildings and in one Swift motion I maneuvered myself upon them. I got back to the dead end and in no time I was rounding the corner of my house.
I opened the door and saw Kaldar on one of the sofas.
"How'd your day go?" I asked him.
"Great."
"How did your day go?" He asked me.
I remembered the sardonic attitude of Dan. He wasn't a total jerk after all.
"Good, it was good."
