Chapter 13 FOR LOVE.

TUESDAY
Waking up was the easy part of sleep-moding. It was like you blinked and all the hours had passed by. We got home yesterday and I went off to sleep-mode. I woke up the next day and remembered what I read about the Lupine humans and my great aspiration to figure out the myth. I had no dreams, no dreams since I woke up in this attic. It was like a living, breathing part was torn away from me.
It was thirty past seven in the morning; no one was at home.
I walked into the kitchen, draining the flask and groaning at the taste. After a few seconds of crazed urge, I walked to the main door.
"Going to see her?" Leya startled me and I turned around to see her lying on one of the sofas, eating a cracker.
"Shouldn't you been in school?" I asked her, cleverly diverting her question and bringing up another topic.
"Jereum dropped me off but I ran back—that's not the point," She said.
"Okay, I'm going for a walk around the block," I lied.
"Then I can come with," she said, hopping from the sofa.
"Okay fine, I'm not going for a walk," I said, eager to drop the topic.
"I know you like her," Leya said. I turned around; she was now sitting up straight.
"What do you mean?" I asked her, trying to sound as confused as possible.
"The girl, the one who lives in the next block," She said.
There was no use of pretending anymore, if she knew this much then there was nothing I could deny to again.
"You followed me?" I asked indignantly.
"No," She said quickly, "I was just curious."
I looked at her, there were no telling Leya's lies from the truth. She always looked innocent.
"Just don't do it again," I said, I got outside and started the long walk to the next block. The streets were dry of people and I kept to the sidewalks. I walked in silence, keeping my head low but my pace quick.
I needed to be quick, I couldn't keep on going out like this—it wasn't safe. Someone could be watching me. I glanced around surreptitiously, no one. I quickened my pace and kept to the sidewalks. I did need to draw any attention to myself. I got to the next block and continued walking, her house was just at the end of this block and if I kept up this pace I would reach there in no time.
I could now see the light blue walls of her duplex. A few people rounded the far corner and I avoided any eye contact with them. I passed them easily and turned the left at the end of this block. Glancing to either side of the road, I ensured that no one was in sight before I crossed and turned to back of an electronics store. The store was closed for the day, the stores around this area usually closed by seven, and I kept on walking behind it till I got to the picket fence that separated her house from the neighbouring houses. Jumping over it, I turned to the window that I had used to get in before.
No light came from the window and I wondered if she was even at home. The window was closed. I picked up a few pebbles from the ground below and tossed them at the glass. The bounced off with a small sound. I threw a few more but still no response.
I tuned in my vision, and looked through the walls. The house was simple; a parlour and dining room on the first floor, and then the bedrooms up above. I lost concentration and focus on my vision. I decided to just go anyway. Prepping my legs, I leaped up, grabbing hold of the windowsill and pushing the window up. I go into her room, it was quiet and dark. She wasn't here.
'I'll just wait for her to come back,' I thought.
I took the time to look at the medals that decorated the walls, awards for swimming. I picked up the small trophy that was on the cabinet. It had the golden figure of a person that seemed to be diving into the air. She must have been an expert swimmer to have won all these I thought. The walls were painted lavender and so was the colour of her bed.
The door opened and I dropped the statue quickly. I looked at who it was through the darkness and Dawn switched on the light bulb. On seeing me she shuddered.
'You can't just keep on coming in here like this," She said and I shrugged.
'Want me to walk through the front door?"
She saw my point.
'Back from school?" I asked her.
'No, I'm on a gap year," She said.
'What's a gap year?" I asked her.
She closed the door behind her and locked it.
"It's like a break that some kids take right after high school," She said.
I said nothing.
"It's been pretty boring actually, I'd usually take my car to the edge of town to enjoy the calm and peaceful environment but you know how that turned out," She said, cringing.
I still kept quiet. Dawn's beauty was the kind that could take your breath away—the kind of beauty that would leave you wondering if she was even human or an angel.
'Can I ask you something?" She said, getting me curios.
I looked at her for a while. 'What is it?"
'Why are you so cold?" She asked.
I wasn't expecting this.
'You mean like my temperature?" I asked.
'N-no, I mean like, inscrutable, emotionless, and statue-like."
'How should I be?" I asked.
She walked to her bed and sat on it, I didn't need an invitation, and I sat beside her. We gazed into each other's eyes, her blue orbs bubbling with love. I wanted to kiss her, wanted to hold her close to myself.
‘Is this what love feels like?' I asked myself.
I leaned in closer to her, closing off what little space we had between ourselves. She placed her hand on the side of my face and I kissed her. I kissed her for long before she broke her lips from mine, panting slowly.
I forgot she needed to breathe. She glanced at me nervously.
'Are you okay?" I asked her, but I got my answer in a more vivid way.
She kissed me again, throwing her weight on me and pushing own on her bed. I traced my fingers down her body, allowing her sigh at my touch. She unbuttoned the jacket I wore, taking her time with each button. Once she was done I took of the black tee shirt I wore under and I watched her face flush red.
She removed the red singlet she wore, and I realized that she wasn't wearing anything under. Her face was red now; it looked like a big tomato.
'You are beautiful," I told her.
She just looked at me. But I meant it, I loved Dawn, I loved every part of her. I saw the desire burning in her eyes; desire to be with me as much as I wanted to be with her.
I pulled her closer to me and she lay down on my body. She looked into my eyes and I knew she meant every word when she said, 'I love you Kaldar."
She interlocked her lips with mine and we kissed slowly, enjoying every moment of it. I turned her over, getting on top of her.
I kissed her down her neck till it got to her chest and I took in her nipple and she moaned deeply. I felt her hands in my hair; she tugged at my head lightly as she moaned.
'Should I stop?" I asked her.
'What? N-no, go on," She breathed out.
I groped it, squeezing lightly until I heard her moaning my name. I kissed her again, kissed her until she was out of breath and she gasped for it. I caressed her body, massaging the most delicate parts and could hear her galloping heartbeat.
She ran her hands down my side, gasping with every touch and kissing me with so much passion. The smell of her blood was becoming too strong, too strong for me to withstand so I rolled off her and she caught her breath. She grabbed the sheets of her bed and threw it over her chest. The smell of her blood was like a thick mist that covered my face. I reached into my pockets and removed the cloth, placing it over my nose and drawing in a long breath. I felt the urge I had for her blood beginning to slowly disappear and I placed the cloth on my face.
I felt her touch my chest, drawing circles with her finger the way Tia had done. I liked it. She placed her weight on me, resting part of her body on mine as she traced out the circles.
'It can't always be like this," I said, my voice almost a whisper.
'I don't care what you are, I've said that before."
'I know but… Do you really think we can be together?" I asked her. I had to face the fact that we were from two different worlds, two worlds that were just too different to come together.
'Why not?" She asked, her voice deep with concern.
'We are from two different worlds Dawn, and mine is more complicated that you think."
'Tell me about it," She said, she kissed my neck and I sighed.
'Well… we have rules," I said.
'Who makes these rules?" She asked.
'It's a board of millennia old vampires called the higher court," I said, 'they keep the peace between us and the humans. They declare our standard of living and ways of conducting our activities. They are the reason vampires don't just go about, killing people on the streets in mass."
'A lot like our leaders," She said.
'We vampires are not just the heartless monsters you may take us for—though some of us are a bit stubborn," I said, remembering the tyrant I had fought, 'we have family and friends and our whole life has just begun…" I let myself trail off.
There was a moments silence.
'You're thinking that I'll die and leave you."
I sighed. 'I just don't want to have something if I can't have it forever, because I know I can live forever," I said, 'I don't want to miss you."
'Then let's be together, forever."
'You know that's not possible."
'And why is that?"
'We have a rule, we only impurify people when they are at their points of death, and we have to ask them, it has to be their own choice."
'Oh," She said.
She rested her head on my chest.
'So what if I was in the verge of death? Then would you impurify me?"
I knew where she was going with this.
'No, no Dawn, you have family, friends, people who care about you… You can't just throw all that away, for what?"
Silence fell between us and I could hear the thumping of her heart as it synced with mine.
'For love…"
Till Dawn Breaks
