Chapter 52 SNEAK PEEK.
I gazed upon her blonde hair from where I sat. She had just finished her graceful swimming round and it reminded me of the time we had spent together in that stream. It was dripping wet and she sat at the rim to the pool. She was alone. I had walked in betraying not a single sound. I walked to her side. She was startled on noticing my presence, shuddering a little.
"That was good." I told her.
She looked at me carefully.
"Oh, thank you." She said, looking at me carefully.
"Wait, you are that Tia's friend." She said, a warm smile. "Err...Kaldar right?"
I smiled back at her.
She stood up. I avoided staring for long into her eyes.
"You guys live around here now?" She asked, looking hopeful.
"No...err...I left our town, I...err...have something to do here. I may stay here for a while though.
"Still live with your parents?" I asked.
"No, they moved to the city. I live on my own actually. It's pretty lonely though."
"Oh. I'll see you around then." I couldn't, I couldn't bring it all back. She was actually starting a life for herself and I didn't want to bring back a past I was sure she'll rather not remember.
I was already a few paces from her when she spoke. "Wait. Let me show you my house. It's not far from here."
I looked at her, unsure. "Okay."
It took her only a few minutes to change out of her swim suit and into loose skirt and plain shirt. We walked to her red car, the red car that I had totaled. It brought back the memory of that night and I smiled to myself.
I was lucky, the sun had already gone down and the dark grey sky had set above. She drove at a moderate speed and I caught her throw several glances at me. She pulled into a large compound which held an apartment complex.
She switched off her engine and looked at me. I stared ahead. Looking at the lights that shun from the windows in the apartments. After a few awkward moments she opened her door and stepped out. I followed after her. We climbed up the side stairs and got to the second floor. She walked to the last door and drew her keys from under her rug.
"Is that safe?" I asked.
"No." She twisted the key twice before the door popped open and stepped in. I stepped in after her into a room that looked totally different from her previous.
Different sheets, white walls, a TV, bigger wardrobe and even more medals hanging from pins on the wall.
"So...err... how's Tia?" She alright I said. She smiled then hung her head low, pressing the heel of her palm into her forehead.
"What is it?" I asked her.
She looked at my face, then took her eyes to my chest. She stood up looking perplexed and walked to me.
"This pendant..."
'Hell! I forgot to keep my jacket closed.'
"Oh...err...I got it from..."
"I have the exact same kind." She looked into my eyes but I avoided hers. She was close to me, too close. Her fingers left the pendant and she rested her palm on my chest. I knew where this would lead. Dawn wasn't shy to show her affection for me. She had already proved that when she tried to kiss me for the first time.
I stepped back, clearing my throat. "What a coincidence."
She brushed away a hair strand from her face and smiled.
"It's getting late, I should...err...get going," I said.
She glanced at the window before taking her eyes back to mine. "Yes, I guess so."
I had to keep it all formal. Jhan told me that if I relate with her the same way I used when we were still together, she'd remember.
I walked towards the door and she followed behind me. "I'll walk you down," She offered and I nodded.
"Oh, my keys..."
She hurried back in. The urge to kiss her was like the urge I would usually get to drink blood. It was like something was pulling me. Manipulating the thoughts of kissing her into my head and making it more and more irresistible. Making her more irresistible.
I glanced over my shoulders. She was searching her cabinet for it but I could remember clearly that she had stowed it into her wardrobe.
To save her the stress, I walked back in and pointed to her wardrobe. "You put it in there," I said.
She walked to it, opening the doors and seeing the keys on the raised platform that she kept her shoes. I was looking away, looking out the door wondering what Jhan was doing. Probably drawing down the coordinates for our next target area.
I turned around to admire the medals on her wall. She had added more to her collection and I could even see more trophies on her the little drawer below.
It was getting late. I needed to get back to Jhan. I turned around.
"You know, I can—"
She was turning at the same time and we bumped into each other. I supported her from falling by quickly holding her waist. She looked into my eyes, her lips slightly parted.
She had wrapped her hands around my neck in a desperate attempt to regain balance. It was just like how I had met her the day I bumped into her for her first time. We stared at each other. I searched for the recognition in her gaze but found none. She was still blanked.
Dawn didn't ask for permission. Or move in slowly like Nicha. When she wanted to kiss me she just did it an she did it again. Interlocking her lips with mine and kissing me like she used to do. I pulled her back to a standing position and I kissed her back.
Her lips still locked with mine, she gently pushed me to her bed and I sat on it. She had her legs wrapped around my torso and my hands caressed her thighs.
She moaned lightly when I kissed her neck and she writhed gently against me. She looked me in the eyes and for a moment I thought I saw something flash in hers. She blinked once, then twice before muttering something under breath and pushing me away from her. She untangled herself from me and got to her feet. She paced to either side, leaving me in deep confusion.
"Hey?"
She pressed the heels of palms to her eyes as she seemed to be in a state of distress.
"Hey? Hey?" I said, getting a little scared for her.
She paused and for a moment went board stiff. I walked to her. I held her arm and brushed my fingers down the length. Slowly, she brought here hands down from her face and looked me in the eyes, her lips slightly parted. But she wasn't seeing Tia's friend anymore, she was seeing her vampire lover.
"Kaldar...?"
My heart skipped a beat.
"Oh my God, what did you do to me?!"

I rummaged through the files frantically. Breaking in was easy but finding the files was the hard part. Pam had told me it was here and so did my aunt. This office was cramped with different colour folders and carelessly thrown files, if my mother in deed work here then why would she be so carefree about her arranging her desk.
"I found it!" Jhan announced and I threw down the bunch of folders I had held in my hands.
He flipped through the pages at a surprising speed but I had no problem reading it, I quickly scanned through the pages in less than a second.
"Here."
We both looked at a page that had printed pictures of stab wounds.
"So she was right." I said to myself.
My father had actually been murdered.
"It was just a murder..."
I looked at Jhan, he had his eyes peering so intensely at the images as if seeing something I couldn't. He put two fingers to his chin, rubbing gently at his skin.
"What? What is it?" I asked, hungry for any information that could give us a lead.
"These are no ordinary stab wounds Kaldar... One is to the heart and the other to the neck. Plus I can notice blistering."
"What?!"
"And the cuts were done with a serrated blade..."
"What Jhan? What does that mean?"
He looked at me. A grim seriousness in his dark eyes.
"Kaldar, your father was killed by a vampire hunter."
"Whah?!"
