Chapter 34

Zander's pov
I took Allison's hand and we went out to the park. It was a crisp day with the wind lightly blowing which made the trees dance in the falling light. I looked over at Allison and she was looking all around and smiling. I couldn't remember a time when I was dating any of my exes that we actually took the time to take a walk and talk with each other. I had always been too busy with work to care what they did. But Allison was different, there was something about her that made me want to be with her every second of the day and never let her out of my sight. There were still questions about her family and her past that I needed answers about but I decided to let her tell me when she was ready. We walked in silence for about twenty minutes when I heard humming. I looked over at Allison and she was humming a song.
“That is a beautiful song, what is it?”
“Oh it's just a melody that my mom would sing to me as a child back when I had good memories.” Her smile faded and it made me mad that her memories were tainted by her cruel family.
“I'm sorry.” I said stopping and holding her face in my hands.
“It's ok, it wasn't always so bad. I have good memories too. Especially with my brother, we would get into so much trouble as kids but he never ratted me out.” Her smile came back and I smiled. I looked at her lips and they were parted and her breathing had changed. I looked at her and she was giving me this unreadable expression. We stared at each other for a while and when I noticed that I was getting dangerously close to her I cleared my throat and backed away.
“So um there is something I need to talk to you about.” We go back to walking.
“Oh ok, what is it?”
“My parents have been wanting to come over for dinner to see you again and get to know you. As they have not really met you. So I agreed and they are coming over tomorrow for dinner.” I said.
“Oh really? They want to meet me?” She said with shock on her face.
“Yes, my mother especially has been asking to come over. She is excited to have you now part of the family.”
“Really? I had no idea. Are your parents nice?” She asked in a small voice.
“Yes, they are very nice. Sometimes they can be too nice.”
“What do you mean by that?”
“Nothing, never mind. Anyway they are stoked to see you tomorrow and Tara is also coming over.
“Oh that's great! I can't wait to see her again.”
“I'm glad my sister has you. She always wanted a sister and she doesn't have many friends.”
“Oh why doesn't she have many friends?”
“She doesn't get along well with people. It takes a special person to click with her. That's why I also pity the man who marries her someday.” I chuckle softly.
“I don't think Tara would appreciate that.” Allison lightly pushes me.
“Oh and I forgot to mention. Tara said that she and a friend were out walking one night and she saw a wolf. So please be careful if you decide to take walks out here on your own.”
“She saw a wolf? Are wolves even here in the city?”
“I don't know but I don't want to risk it. Just please be careful.”
“Ok I will be. Wait, how did she see a wolf?”
“Well I guess she and her friend were attacked by a man and this giant wolf came out of nowhere and scared the man off. And she said that she thought the wolf smiled? When she thanked the wolf.”
“Wow, that is definitely one for the history books because I don't think I have ever heard of that happening. Although I have heard of wolf packs being concerned about a baby and raising the baby as a wolf.”
“Really? I have heard of some interesting things involving wolves but like I said please be careful.”
“I will be. I promise.” She smiled.

We go silent again just enjoying each other's company. I am beginning to see Allison's personality coming through once she starts to open up and not be the quiet dutiful person her family made her be.
“We should get back, it's getting dark and I'm sure Connie has dinner ready for us.”
“Ok, I'll say yes to Connie's cooking. She is so good at what she does. How long has she been working there?” Allison asks.
“Well I used to eat out everyday and my favorite restaurant was where Connie worked. Soon I ate only her dishes that she made because there was just something about them that I love so when she was unjustly fired I offered her to be my personal chef and she took the job and that was about five years ago. So she has been there since.”
“How sad that she was fired. But I'm glad because she is an amazing chef. I hope you pay her well.” Allison gave this mock frown.
“Yes I do pay her well. You don't have to worry about that.” I say to ease her mind. I love how caring she is for those around her. I have noticed that she would make right for others if she deemed it necessary and I love that about her.
“Good evening Mr. And Mrs. Martin. I have dinner ready in the dining room.
“Good evening Connie, and please call us by our names. And thank you for making dinner. I'm sure it's delicious.” Allison said.
“Sorry ma'am can't do that.” Connie just smiled. “Can't go changing things now in my old age.” She just chuckles and we shake our heads smiling as we go into the dining room. The room is filled with a delicious scent and my mouth waters. We sit down and Connie starts handing us the food. It's spaghetti and meatballs. Connie of course gives us healthy portions and I start eating. I look over and Allison looks at it frowning.
“Is everything ok? I ask.
“Oh yes, it's just that um. What is this?” She asked.
“You have never had spaghetti and meatballs before?” I ask shocked.
“Well no, my family never had anything like this.” She said.
“Ok well um, it's noodles with sauce and meatballs. It's really good. Connie makes the best. If you don't like it then I'll ask Connie to make you something else. But please just try it. You might actually like it.” I said, trying to convince her.
“Ok I'll try it.” She took a bite and she smiled. “Wow this is amazing! You were right, this is really good.” She nodded her head and kept eating.
“I'm glad you like it.” Just then my phone rings and I look at the caller ID and it's Sam.
“Hey Sam what's up?”
“Hey boss, it's about something important.”
“Ok call me back in five minutes.”
“Ok boss, will do.” I clicked the phone and I ended the call.
“I'm sorry but I have some work to do so I'm going to be in my office. If you need anything just come and find me.” I say getting up.
“Ok don't work too hard.” Allison teased me.
“I'll try not to.” I walk out of the room and go up to my office.

Unknown pov
I can't believe I have to watch Zander and his wife be all lovey dovey. Why did I have to be on the short end of the stick when my boss wanted me to keep an eye on them? Well I better make myself comfortable while I do this cause it will be awhile. I have been here for hours and not a single interesting thing has happened. Which makes me wonder why my boss wants this couple under surveillance. But I guess that isn't my job.
