Chapter Thirteen (Amaya)

I went into the main room and started cutting up more bandages as Abigail poured hot water into a cup and added herbs to it before returning to the room Samuel was resting in.

“Can you go pick some blood of Hestia from the garden please, dear?” She asked me before she left the room.

I nodded and looked into the reference book she had given me to study to see what the actual plant was. Skimming through the various plants and their code names, I finally found it before heading outside and looking for the chamomile she had requested I pick.

I scanned the herb garden looking for the plant, without luck, which meant I’d have to look in the forest for it, referencing the book again I studied the picture Abigail had drawn and headed down the forest path we frequented looking for it.

It didn’t take long for me to locate it; I picked a bunch and returned to the cabin Abigail was outside weeding the garden. I went inside the cabin and tied the plant and hung it up to dry, like she had taught me to do.

I decided I’d better check on Samuel, walking into the room he appeared to be sleeping. He didn’t look as pale as he was earlier, guess he’s improving.
I had turned to leave when his voice startled me, “Wait.” I turned around to face him.

“Are you ok? Do you need anything? I can get Ab..” I asked as he interrupted me.

“No, I’m OK. I just wanted company if you are done with your chores now.” He answered, his eyes shimmering in the blues, grey and greens that seemed to hypnotize me. Against my will, I moved closer to him and sat beside him.

He smiled, “Thank you.”

“What for?” My voice was foreign to me, almost robotic.

“Sitting with me, it’s a little dull sitting here all the time. I am not used to being still.” He confessed as he grasped my wrist and rubbing his thumb along my arm.
“No problem.” I muttered, wondering why I didn't have control of my body.

“You are Abigail’s granddaughter?” he asked.

“I already told you I was.” I retorted, still not in control of my body.

“Don’t lie to me, Little Dove.” He spoke with a threat, his eyes darkening, “I hate liars.”

“I’m sorry, but it is not a lie.” I was a little spooked by his intensity, but if he found out where I was from, they would kill me as a witch. He was after, all, working with the pastor.

“Tell me the truth.” He yelled as his eyes changed and were almost black.

“What are you?” I asked, shocked, trying to back away from him. He still had my hand and my body moved slowly, like water weighed me down. He pulled me into his lap, brushing a stray strand of hair from my face.

“I can’t tell you yet, Little Dove. Please don’t lie to me, I have lived my life around liars. I know Abigail isn’t your grandmother.”

I was uncomfortable under his gaze, and I was trapped as his powerful arms held me to him.

“How would you know if she was my grandmother or not? It is not your business and if you can’t be honest with me, I sure as hell don’t have to be honest with you.” I retorted, trying again to move away from him. He was injured. There was no way he could be this strong in the condition he was in.

“There is only one thing you need to know.”

“And what is that?” I asked, annoyed.

“That you are mine!”

“I am no…” he interrupted me, keeping one hand wrapped around my waist and the other he used to cup my nape as he forced my face towards his, kissing me forcefully as if trying to convince me of something. When he released me, I slapped him hard across the face.

“How dare you!” I yelled as he tried to pull me towards him again.

“What the fuck are you doing?” Sin yelled as he entered the room, causing Samuel to release me. I had been trying so hard to pull away from him that when he released me, I flew backwards and landed on the floor.

Sin knelt beside me, “Are you okay, little flame?” As he moved to help me up, his eyes still looked angry, but he was concerned as well.

“I, um... dunno,” I answered honestly as he helped me stand.

The minute I was on my feet, he put himself between Samuel and me. “How dare you touch her!” he yelled at Samuel, “I told you to stay away from her!”

I backed away. For some reason, I had a feeling that these two men were extremely dangerous and if I got between them, it would be the death of me. I slowly backed away from them.

“And I told you that you can’t keep me from what is mine!” Samuel yelled at Sin.

Anger rose in my chest, and I couldn’t take it anymore. I was tired of this, tired of being trapped in this unforgivable time, having to blend in and hide who I am. I felt pressure build inside me as the anger swelled, building to the point of pain, I looked at the two arguing men and yelled, “I BELONG TO NOONE.” As the room seemed to shake. Their heads snapped up in surprise, both turning to me as I stormed out of the room, anger coming off of me in waves.

"What’s going on?" Abigail asked, as Sin followed me out of the room.

“Ask him.” I bit out angrily as something flew off the wall, shocking me. What the hell was that? I looked at my hands, then at Abigail, who smiled as if she knew what was happening.

“You are not human?” Sin asked me, confused, as he approached me.

"What do you mean, not human? Of course, I’m bloody human, what else would I be?"

Abigail smiled, "You, my dear, are a witch, or to be more accurate, a half witch."
