Chapter Fifty (Amaya)
I had spent the day helping Abigail with her potions and helping update her journals and books. I had just told her about my conversation with Hellebore and Lazarus this morning.
“I wonder what she is up to.” She frowned.
“I don’t know, but I am going to find out. I talked to Leviathan, and he is going to help me.”
“Make sure you share information only with those you trust. We are in enemy territory here. Sin is trustworthy, but as for everyone else, be careful.”
“I trust Leviathan and Lazarus; I know they don’t have ill intentions.”
“I’m just saying, be careful. Even those with the best intentions make mistakes.”
She had a point, if the witch trials were any indication. I should be more careful, I thought as I helped Abigail tidy up her workspace, Cana flew in through the balcony and landed on my shoulder, Abigail looked at small black dragon on my shoulder and smiled.
“Who’s this?” She asked as she reached to touch Cana’s wing.
“Cana, she is helping me.” I smiled.
"Nice to meet you, Cana."
Cana nodded in response, knowing Abigail couldn't hear her.
I looked at Cana, “Where you able to find out anything?”
She nodded, “Hellebore is looking for a creature behind the envy gate. She believes he will help her take out the King.”
“Why does she think the creature will do that?”
“It’s a shapeshifter, which makes it incredibly hard to find. We can’t know what form it will take.”
I frowned, “The dragon I had spoken to is that the creature she is looking for.” I thought to myself.
“Were you able to find out anything else?”
“No, not yet, although she always carries a vial of blood in her pocket. She whispers to it, it’s weird, it’s as if it controls something or someone.”
“Thank you, Cana.”
There was a knock at the door, when Abigail went to answer I asked Cana, "Can you ask Leviathan to assign a dragon to Abigail for protection, I don’t believe she is safe here."
Cana nodded, “Of course. I will return soon.”
Cana jumped from my shoulder and flew out the window.
Abigail answered the door, and Akuji was standing in the doorway.
I joined her, “What are you doing here? I thought they locked you away in the dungeon.”
Akuji smiled, “Since I did not kill you, they let me out.”
“What do you want?” Abigail asked her.
Akuji walked up to me, getting into my personal space, and it took everything in me not to hit the demoness.
“Sin is mine and he might not see it now, but he will. So, stay away from him. He is not for you.”
I couldn’t help it. I laughed, “Seriously, you came her to threaten me. He can decide for himself and if he really wanted you, why would he bring me here?”
“Like I said, he is mine. He is just confused right now, but he will see reason.”
“I think the only one who is not seeing reason, is you? Please leave my room.” Abigail interjected, annoyed.
“You ugly old bat.” Akuji hissed and lunged towards her, last second, I caught her and threw her to the ground.
“You will leave now.” I yelled at her as the room shook in warning. Ignoring the shocked look on her face, I lifted her off the ground and dumped her outside the door with my mind slamming it behind her.
“Still can’t control the slips of your power, good execution on lifting her out of here though.” Abigail smiled.
“I don’t know why my surroundings shake like that all the time.” I frowned.
“It’s the Sorceress and druid in you, the earth in the stones and surroundings is picking up on your anger and responding, and your sorceress side is subconsciously trying to protect you by letting your Druid side take over.”
“So, it’s not a witch thing?” I asked her, confused.
“No, your abilities as a witch are with the mind, lifting things, reading intentions and emotions and with practice, possibly mind reading and illusions. You take after my mother in that sense.” She smiled. “Talking to creatures and controlling the surrounding elements is a Druid trait and solely from your father. My gifted little Amaya.”
“I wish I could have met him.” I smiled. When I was told the truth, I was so happy to have found her and getting answers to all my questions I had when I was growing up. My existence before me felt like I was floating untethered from everything. Not sure who I was or where I belonged now, I felt anchored and a feeling of belonging.
“Me too dear, he was an amazing man.”
I heard something and turned my head to the wind, Cana was back and a small orange and yellow dragon with pale yellow eyes was with her.
“Hey Cana, who’s this?” I asked when she landed on my shoulder.
“She will protect Abigail, she is my sister Chusi.”
“Nice to meet you.” I said to Chusi as she landed on the floor.
"And you as well." She retorted grumpily.
“Sorry she is not too pleased I woke her from her nap.” Cana chuckled.
“Is there a way for me to speak to my charge?” Chusi asked, ignoring me.
“I’m not sure. I can see if I can make something.”
“Is there a way so you can hear them as well?” I asked Abigail.
“Druid magic is not my forte, you might be able to enchant something to help me hear them.”
“Hmm,” I looked around the room and saw a ring sitting on the table beside Abigail's bed, I picked it up and looked at her. “Would this work?”
She nodded, “Now focus and lace it with your intent.”
I focused on the ring, imagining it being surrounded by magic and infusing it with my intent. An inscription embedded in the simple gold band.
A little unsure, I handed it to Abigail, “I think I did it.”
Abigail took the ring from me and put it on her finger.
“Did it work?” Cana asked me.
Abigail smiled, “Yes it did.”
“Good, at least now I can talk to you, it will make it easier to protect you.” Chusi shared. “I am Chusi,” she introduced herself to Abigail.
“Hi Chusi, Protect me? Is that why you are here?” Abigail asked, as she looked at me.
“Yes, I don’t believe you are safe here.” I answered.
“I can protect myself dear, you don’t need to endanger these beautiful creatures.”
“It is an honour to protect you, Leviathan and all dragons consider druids as royalty, and you are the mother of one.” Chusi shared.
“Druids were the ones who protected our kind from extinction, we will do all we can to help you.” Cana added.
“Thank you for your help. I really appreciate it.”
“If you don’t need anything else, I will return to my post.”
“That is everything, Thank you, Cana.”
Cana again jumped from my shoulder, flying out the window.
“What is Cana’s post?” Abigail asked curiously.
“She is spying on Hellebore for me. She can blend into backgrounds, and I want to know what Hellebore is planning and why she is interested in the creature behind the envy gate.”
“My daughter is a sneaky little minx, no one would suspect this of you, especially Hellebore.”
“Exactly and now I can find out what she is up to, Also why would she carry around a vile of blood with her, Cana says she whispers to it and it is on her at all times.”
“If it is what I think it is, we could be in trouble.” Abigail frowned.
