Chapter Thirty Five (Lazarus)
Anger flooded me, how dare he touch her, she did not belong to him. She was mine.
After fighting every instinct, I had to place her back in that cell. I turned and went right back to the room. When I walked in, Pastor Gideon was sitting at his desk, flipping through a book. It took everything in me not to kill the asshole on the spot.
“Samuel, you’re back?” He questioned as he put the book down. His nose bruising badly. A small sense of satisfaction filled me knowing that she had injured this asshole of a man.
“Yes, I want to speak with you.” I snipped as he looked at me cautiously.
“What is up, dear boy?” He smiled at me like nothing had happened, but the smile did not reach his eyes.
“You had no right to attack her like that.”
“She is my prisoner. I can do what I want with her.” He retorted, becoming angry himself. “You should not have interfered. Now she will go to waste."
I jumped up and grabbed him by his collar, lifting him off the floor, “touch her again and I will personally send you to hell. You do not talk about her like she is some object.” I growled in his face.
“I am not going to hell; I am a pastor and God will protect me.” he stated shakily, his eyes wide in fear.
“You’re not protected from me!” I hissed as I basically threw him on the floor. This man was in for a surprise his soul was soaked in sin, he may be a pastor, but innocent he was not, he was evil behind a mask. When he goes, I will reserve a special place in hell for him and personally watch his torture.
I was furious with him and wanted to cause him pain for what he had done to her, her lip was split and bleeding and her eye blackening. Gods, I wanted to make him suffer.
I smiled, taking solace in knowing he will be in hell soon enough and at my mercy. “Oh, you foolish humans. So keen to meet your own agenda that you can’t see the truths right in front of you.”
“What is that supposed to mean?” Pastor Gideon questioned.
“You will find out soon enough.” I declared as I turned and left the room, slamming the door behind me.
I left the courthouse and headed into the forest to meet up with Hellebore,
“Is it done?” Hellebore asked as she walked out from behind a tree wearing a tight green dress, her hair falling around her shoulders. I hated her. I could not believe she was willing to risk Amaya’s life, all for her stupid plan.
“No, it is not done. Abigail is alive, and that perverted pastor has touched what is mine!”
“Damn it. That guard was supposed to kill Abigail.” She muttered, ignoring my last sentence.
“Why do you want her dead so bad?”
“You never mind that. I need you to make sure that Abigail dies, do you understand?”
“Yes, I got it.” Not like I have a choice in the matter. The manipulative bitch would kill Amaya and my brothers if I didn’t help her. “You should let me in on the whole plan. All these bits and pieces are quite frustrating.”
“Yet it is the way it must be done.” She stated as she walked away, her flames consuming her in the process.
Suspicious of her intents I muttered. “Yeah, or because you are trying to kill Amaya, too.” I will stop you before you can do that. I promised myself, before I walked back into town, I promised myself. The gallows were almost completed, a knot formed in my gut at the thought of Amaya meeting her end here. There has to be something I can do to stop this.
I was angry at the whole situation and especially at Sin, where the hell was he and why wasn’t he here, I couldn’t help her because of Hellebore, he could.
I debated going to see him, but not trusting Pastor Gideon, I decided to go back to the courthouse and stand guard over Amaya myself. If that prick went near her again, I would show him what a demon could do.
I grabbed a chair and moved it in front of the cell, taking a seat and crossing my arms over my chest.
“What are you doing?” Amaya asked as she stood and walked over to face me.
“Standing guard, no fucken way I am letting that jerk near you again.”
“Maybe I misjudged you.” Abigail commented. “Thank you for protecting my daughter.”
I had forgotten that Abigail was her mother. Why did Hellebore want her dead, what was so special about her, and would Amaya ever forgive me if I had a hand in her death? What I fucken mess I have gotten myself into.
“I will always protect her when it is possible.” I informed her.
“So, I am guessing something is preventing you from helping us?” Abagail asked me.
I nodded, “Unfortunately my hands are tied, I can’t help you escape.”
“Help or won’t?” Amaya snapped as the other guard entered the room.
“Leave.” I snapped at him as he nodded, turned, and left. Luckily, I was known for working with Pastor Gideon and could get away with it. Guilt roiled, I wish I would have never helped Hellebore or the Pastor. “I’m sorry Little Dove.”
“No, you don’t get to call me that!” she spat. “You are a lying bastard, and I will never forgive you. I hope I haunt you when I am dead.” She fumed as tears fell from her eyes, causing my chest to hurt. I didn’t want this for her, but what else could I do?
She quickly wiped the tears away and turned from me.
Abigail watched me closely, “What if you left me here?” She whispered, “take Amaya and run.”
“I could help her escape without breaking the vow I made. However, I may not leave town, though.”
“Amaya, you need to go with him.”
“Fuck that, I just found you. I am not leaving. We either are both saved or both die. I refuse to lose anymore people.”
“What do you mean anymore?” Abigail asked as she tried to read Amaya’s expression.
I was interested to, so I sat silently waiting for her to answer.
“My adoptive parents were killed in a car accident a few years before i came to this time. A drunk driver hit them.”
“A drunk driver?” Abigail asked, confused.
“He drove a car under the influence of alcohol. He had way too much and lost control of the vehicle.”
“I’m sorry dear, was the man punished?”
“Not as much as he should have been. Anyway, when I was dropped here, everyone I knew was left behind and I grieve the loss of those relationships. Especially my best friend, Nisha. I refuse to lose anyone else.”
“I don’t think we have much of a choice this time.” Lazarus shared.
“Well, I do so unless she comes, I am not leaving.”
“We will just have to see how it plays out dear.” Abigail stated.
Great, if she is going to be stubborn about this, what am I going to do? If I force her away from Abigail, then she will never forgive me.
My only hope was to put my faith in my nemesis and hope that Sin finds a way to save her.
