Chapter Thirty One (Lazarus)

I didn’t know what to say to her. I didn’t want to ruin the bond I was trying to create, but I needed her to know who I really was.

“You may as well tell her, she has known about Sin this entire time.” Abigail informed me.

“You knew Sin was a demon?” I was livid. How was she still ok with him knowing what he was?

“He trusted her with it unlike someone I know.” Abigail accused, narrowing her eyes.

“So, you know about Sin?” Amaya asked, as if she was trying to piece together a puzzle.

I sighed and rubbed the back of my neck, “I am his younger brother.”

“Are you fucking kidding me?!” she yelled, betrayal written on every feature. “If you are using me in some twisted sibling feud, I will lose it.” She snapped, her voice shaking.

“It’s more complicated than that.”

“Wait if you are a demon, Samuel. Why are you helping the pastor?”

“My name is actually Lazarus, and I am not helping of my own accord.”

Tears filled her eyes, “Then why are you doing all of this, why would you put Abigail and I through that when you could have prevented it or stopped it? Why would you do that to me?”

“I can’t explain it to you yet. But I will, I promise.” I reached for her hand through the bars, but she yanked it away.

“You are a liar and if you have forgotten. I was just sentenced to death. There won’t be a later. Why is it that none of you could just be honest with me?” She yelled, hugging herself as she began to hyperventilate. "And yet you told me you hated liars! I trusted you!"

Abigail moved to console her, but she pushed her hand away. “You are no better. I have been trapped here for months and you only told me you were my mother now and that the time I grew up in is wrong, you have lied just as much as they have. Don’t touch me.”

“I’m sorry, Amaya. It had to be this way.” Abigail whispered as she backed away from her.

“What is going on? Why did it have to be this way?” I asked Abigail, annoyed at not having all the information.

“Leave… I don’t want to see you again.” Amaya spat at me before Abigail could answer.

“I know you don’t mean that.”

“LEAVE!” Amaya yelled as she collapsed to the floor, pulling her knees up and putting her head down as she sobbed.

“I will go… for now, but I will be back later.” I promised as I turned and headed from the building, my mind swirling with questions and settling on one person. Sin, he had to be behind all of this.

Once I was out of sight from the townspeople, I let my blue flames engulf me and travelled back to the throne room. Sin was looking miserable, he was sitting on his throne drinking spirits. It was not impossible for demons to get drunk and, if I had to guess; he was.

“Amaya is sitting in a cell waiting for execution and you are sitting here drinking yourself, stupid?” I snapped.

“I am doing what I must do brother… what’s it to you? Thought you wanted her for yourself?” he slurred, looking bored.

“So, you are going to let her die?” I accused.

To fast for me to catch, he was holding me by the throat pinned against the wall, all signs of drunkenness gone, “I am not letting anything happen! You are the one that put her in that situation. Maybe I should kill you and put an end to our wager?”

“Like she would forgive you.” I squeezed out as his grip on my throat tightened. His eyes flashed bright red in anger before he turned and threw me to the ground. Rubbing my throat, I stood up and faced him.

“What do you want?” he finally asked.

“I want you to save her, I can’t.”

“Why can’t you, don't you care for her?”

“I am bound, which means I have to let things happen as they will if I interfere, then we both die.”

“Ah, so you want me to save her, so you won’t break an oath to your mother and be killed.”

“I never said anything about Hellebore.” I retorted.

“Need I remind you that your mother has the courthouse and church warded against me and magic? The only demons going in and out of there are you and your mother, whatever the hell she is. I have tried. She used her witch slaves to seal the place from me."

So, he had tried to save her already and was unable to, will she really die there?

“Figure something else out then. You are the king. Go down there and demand her release."

“I am King of hell. I can’t just waltz into town and demand they do my bidding; they would believe me to be Satan and make things worse for her.”

I hadn't thought of that, it would mark her as a witch for sure although her tattoos although sexy had already condemned her.

“It can’t get much worse for her. You technically are Satan.” I shared seeing as in the bible Satan ran hell.

“What do you mean?” Sin asked, his anger flaring.

“I mean, they searched both her and Abigail for witch marks in front of the whole town and she has tattoos, they have already sentenced her and her mother.”

Sin nodded, visibly angry, but did not respond.

“You have nothing to say?”

“Not to you.” He replied as he turned and left the throne room.

Great, now what was I supposed to do? I sighed and headed to my mother's quarters. She would fix this. I can’t let anything happen to Amaya.

Before I could enter, she opened the door.

“Hello my dear son.” She smiled as she reached up and stroked my cheek. “What brings you here?"

“You promised me Amaya would be safe and that they would only take Abigail.”

“Did I?” she asked, feigning, trying to remember.

“Yes you did, you know she is my fated mate.”

She nodded, “Yes, yes I know.”

“Did you plan this on purpose?”

“You dare accuse me of having a role to play in your fated mate's death?” her eyes flared pink and purple as she looked at me.

“You have killed every woman I have shown an interest in, or cared about.”

She shrugged, “they weren’t right for you, just like Amaya isn’t.”

"If she dies, I won’t help you." I warned.

“Oh, you will help me, or I will kill your dear baby brother and everyone he cares about.” She threatened as she moved towards me, picking a knife up off her dresser. “Vow to me that you will continue with our plan, or I will do it right now. If Amaya dies, it does not change my plans.”

She knew I didn't care what happened to me. She also knew how much I really cared from my little brother, we might not have been close, but I was very protective of him. Secretly, always watching out for him. I had to find a way to save Amaya. "how can you write her off knowing what she means to me?" I argued.

"You either vow it now, or she will die tonight!" Hellebore promised.

“I vow it.” I sighed as she handed me the blade, and I cut my finger, offering her my blood. She grabbed an empty vial and collected it after saying something in a language I didn’t recognize. A symbol appeared on the side, and I knew my fate was sealed.
