CHAPTER THIRTY ONE

'Ughhh." Jordan screamed for the umpteenth time.
Jordan tossed and turned on the bed. He has lost count of how many times he has groaned out in frustration. Everytime he closed his eyes, all of it just started to appear again. His daughters gave as the tears rolled down her eyes. The image of it made his heart clench in between his ribs. He wanted to talk, at least to one person, say something, laugh and joke but there was no one. It all just seemed he was the only one in this fucking world.
He stood up from the bed, pressing the button that turned all the lights on. He dragged his feet towards the bathroom with his droopy eyes who badly wanted sleep but was not going to get any.
'Hugh." He groaned out again.
All of it was tiring for him. The stress, the pain. He had thought he was used to it but they all proved him wrong. Why? Why was it him? Of anyone in the world, why did this have to happen to him? With a clenched fist, he slammed his hand into the glass, causing it to dent.
'That's how you are now. A dent to everyone."a part of him said.
This made him clench his fist tighter, punching the glass again. No! It was not supposed to be him. This was not supposed to happen to him. He continued to punch until he made sure he got blood on his hand and on the glass also. Some of the pieces already fell to the sink, making him more annoyed. He turned on the water and washed his hand, not minding the sting he felt as he washed it. He walked out to his cabinet, taking out his first aid kits to treat the hand when he heard his phone vibrate.
'Who remembered me?" He murmured to himself. He was sure he left a clear message that he would not like to be contacted even if he needed all the support in the world. Things he did to himself.
He brought out the first aid kits, dropping it on the floor before walking to his bedside table and picking his phone from it. His eyes sparkled as Adonia's name showed on the screen. He sat down on the bed as he tapped on the message.
'Hey there. Hope you're doing well? I wanted to check on you and let you know I'm always here for you." The message read.
A smile made its way to Jordan's lips. For a split second all his worries flew out of his brain as the only thing he could imagine was Adonia's face at the other end of the screen.
'I'm fine. Are you in for a long chat?" He said.
He had hit the send button before reading the message again. He sighed deeply, maybe he shouldn't have written it that way, at least he could have done it better than that. The message ticked blue showing she had seen it. His eyes darted up the chat to see if she was typing but it was all blank.
'You don't know how to do anything. Just fucking chased her." He thought to himself.
He dropped his phone and went back to his first aid kit. Why did he think someone would actually care for him? Was that too much to ask? Why did he think someone would like him? He brought out the bandage and some spirit, pouring it on the surface of the wind without minding the pain. Right now, he could not feel any physical pain. Every pain he felt now oozed from his heart, making him think he was going to die soon enough.
Immediately he was done cleaning the wound, he plastered the bandage on it before walking to his bed. He took his phone and saw that Adonia had not still not replied to his message. With anger coursing through his veins, he smashed his phone to the floor before turning off the light. He had just laid down when he heard the silent vibrating of his phone. He scrunched his face up, not wanting to pick the call but the e phone won't stop vibrating.
'I pray it's one good person because if not, you're dead today." He said before searching for the phone in the darkness.
The brightness of the phone made him close his eyes before opening it again to adjust. Adonia's name was boldly written on the screen with a live emoji. Even though he was angry she had left him on read, he still gave her the honor of picking her call.
'Jordan." She said faintly as she picked the call.
'What's wrong with you? Why do you sound that way?" Jordan said with furrowed brows.
'Nothing." She said, her voice going back to its normal one.
Jordan sighed deeply before laying back on the bed.
'I'm sorry I did not reply to you earlier. My manager just came in to start reading some scripts to me." Adonis said.
'Ohkay. Mine is not even caring at all. Give me a break." Jordan replied, his voice going faint for the last sentence.
Adonia could sense the hesitation in his voice, making her sigh into the phone.
'Can you believe this Jordan?" She said abruptly.
'What's that?" Jordan asked her.
'There was this event I went to the last time I went to Paris and now they're inviting me back for dinner. Isn't that great?" She said,
'Wow! That's good. I'm so happy for you." He replied.
'Thank you. Guess who gets to sit with the governor of Paris, this girl." She said through the phone.
A smile bloomed over Jordan's lips. Adonia was just an angel from God sent to him personally. Even on stormy days and happy days, she was always there for him.
'And guess who is going with me if he begs?"
'Who?" Jordan said feigning ignorance.
'You of course. As long as you say Adonia, you're a beautiful friend and please forgive me for all of my sins because you're all I have. I'll let you come with me." She rambled.
'Nope. I'm not saying that." Jordan disagree.
'You get to come with me. I'll cover all your expenses. What about that?"
'Nope. It's too long. Shorten it and I'll think on whether to say it or not." Jordan replied.
'I'll just text it."
Jordan removed his phone from his ears as he waited for the message to enter. Finally, his phone vibrated and he clicked on it. His lips curled into a sad smile as he read it.
'Don't be sad. I'll always be here for you. Anytime. I'm just a please away. Say please, and you get to come with me." It read.
'Please what?" He said into the phone again.
'Say; Adonia, please take me on a trip with you."
A scoff escaped Jordan lips as he could not believe his ears.
'My manager can do that, I don't need your trip." He replied.
'Ohhh, touchy. Don't come begging later."
'I can't. And don't come later to take you on one of mine because you're definitely saying please." Jordan said.
'Well, I won't. I'll just have to work hard to meet you, get all your money and go on trips." Adonia said.
'And of course you'll get it all." He replied.
'I know." She replied faintly.
There was a deep silence between them after this, both of them having different thoughts in their minds. Adonia just wanted Jordan to come with him on the trip because she wanted him to take his mind off all he was thinking. She felt really bad for him, hoping she could be beside him to relieve him of his pains but it was not possible.
'Jordan". She called.
Jordan was already feeling sleepy. He has always found it comfortable and satisfying everytime Adonia called him. Maybe it was her voice that was soothing to the ears, but he felt some kind of joy deep in his heart that was indescribable.
'Are you bailing out on me?" He heard her say.
'Why would I? I almost dozed off." He replied.
'It's unfair. I've slept all through today and you won't even talk to me. Why?" She cried out.
Jordan smiled as he heard her crooked voice.
'Have I told you crying would never fit into your face?" He said.
'You just like to mock me every time but of course. Crying would never fit me, I'm a fine girl, I can't cry." Adonia replied.
'And who told you that?"
'Myself. It's called self…" she drawled out.
'Self what?" Jordan said.
'I'm trying to remember." She said,
'You're a dullard. Don't tell me you're trying to remember self appreciation?" Jordan said.
'Of course. I appreciate myself so I'm a beauty." She said,
'And I appreciate you for calling me and taking my mind off things. I've not been able to sleep all day but with the touch of your melodic voice into my heart, I'm feeling sleepy already. You're the best." He said, yawning through the phone.
'Anytime, I'll always be here for you." She said quietly.
Jordan heard this. He wanted to say the same thing back to her but would not want to promise. He felt a lump in his throat as he managed to speak back into the phone.
'Good night Adonia."
'Sleep tight Jordan." She said as she hung the call.
