Chapter 28: being cautious

That night non of them slept as the princess sat beside her mother and console her all night. She really don't want to leave her side as she might do something harmful to herself even when she wants to find out how everything happened. She don't need anyone to tell her first before she know who actually murdered the king.
"Prepare the Queen's bath and go get the Queen's breakfast before she finish her bath" she ordered the maids and they discard one after the other.
She helped her mother up and lead her into the bathroom with the maids leading the way. She left her in the care of the maids and wait for them in the room. She is afraid of entering her room as it has turned to her phobia. She hadn't enter the room since the king body was taken away last and she is afraid of going back into the room to have her bath.
She walked around in the room still wearing the dress she wore last night. There were still blood stain in it and her hair were quite messy with the crown resting perfectly on it.
The queen walked out of the room later with the maids following her and they helped her change into a white dress in the room.
The other maids returned shortly with tray of food and Diana quickly walk towards. They set the food on the table and fold their hands behind their backs with their heads bowed slightly.
" Taste all the food" she said more like an order and they all flinched. She is not going to take things unserious. It's obvious the palace is not safe and non of the maids can be trusted. Her drink was spike last night that was why her father was able to be killed. She is sure one of the maid is working for sarah and Claudius. If she can remember, neither Sarah nor Claudius came close to her at the banquet.
" Taste the food now" Diana said and her voice echoed through the room. They don't need anyone to tell them is being cautious and don't trust them anymore.
They held the spoon and taste the food one after the other. When they are done tasting the food, they drop the spoons and raised their head up to see the princess expression.
" Go get another spoon for the queen" she said and one of them scurried out of the room to get another spoon for the queen.
She returned few minutes later and the princess fed the queen by herself before putting her to bed. When she is sure the queen is asleep, she let out a sigh of relief.
" Alice get me a dress from my room" she said to Alice.
" Yes your majesty" Alice bow her head and exit the room.
She got to the princess room and pick her stuffs including her dress, her undies, creams and footwear's. She came back and place them on the bed next to the queen.
" I will take my bath alone" She tells them before walking into the bathroom to have her bath. She dipped herself into the warm water and close her eyes. The water relax her muscles and calm her nerves. The flower fragrance filled her nostrils and that instant everything seems to blank out from her mind. The reason why she wants to have her bath alone without assistant. She just want to submerge herself in the water and remain alone there by herself. The water cover her to her neck. Only her head is above the water and all other part of her body were dipped inside the water. This is the first time she is using her mother's bathroom and bathtub since she was born. Her breathing decreased as her heart beats slowly without racing.
The image of her late father flashed through her mind and she snapp her eyes open immediately with a gasp.
She looked around searching for him but couldn't find him anywhere in the bathroom. She quickly got out of the bathtub and wrap herself with a towel and walk out of the bathroom hastily with her heart heavy. She still can't believe her father is gone. She walked into the room and all the maids turned to look at her direction. She sat In front of the dressing mirror and the maids surround her. Some dry her hair while some apply ointment on her skin. They let her hair fall loosely on her back and help her wear her own white shirt. They're mourning and that's the dressing code for the royal family members who are mourning.
She took a look at her mother who was sleeping soundly on the bed. There are other things she needs to do but she don't want to leave her alone. What if something happens before she comes back?
" Alice, Elena, please watch over the queen. I will be back shortly." She tells them and they nod their heads.
" The rest of you can leave" she dismissed the other maids and they left immediately. She took another look at her mother before walking out of the room with three maids following and two royal soldiers.
She walked through the hallway as a lot of thoughts ran through her mind. She bump into one of the maids carrying a bag of clothes.
" I'm sorry" the maid apologized and scurried away.
She walked down the hallway and branch into the throne hall where she saw Claudius and Sarah sitting on the throne. She knew all along that this was their plan but she do don't expect them to sit on the throne soon when she the Heiress is still alive. Besides her father died last night and her uncle is already sitting on the throne instead of mourning which only meand two things. He killed the king and is happy about the king's death. Diana hand ball into a fist by her side as she approach them on the throne.
" Get out of my throne" Her voice thundered through the entire room and both Sarah and Claudius flinch at her cold domineering voice.
