#12 Exploring Mykonos
I looked at the manager with wide eyes. "There must be a mistake, Mr. Russos. Can you please check once again?" I asked, searching in my bag for the reservation notes.
The man yelled something in Greek, and a younger man arrived, almost running. The two men converse in their native tongue for a few short moments, and then the younger turned to me, "I'm sorry for the inconvenience, Miss. I'm Spyros; how can I help you?"
I explained to him the situation once more, showing him the payment receipt I had made in advance for the two rooms.
The man looked at the computer again and then turned to me with an apologetic look, "It seems like there has been a mistake. The only room reserved in Mr. Leclair's name is the honeymoon suite."
"Aren't there any other available rooms then?" Sebastian asked with a small frown.
"No, sir, we're full…"
"How about any other hotels?" I asked, a bit desperate.
"I don't think you'll find a free room on the island, Ms."
"It's okay, I'll make some phone calls. Maybe there was a last-minute cancelation somewhere," I muttered, trying to keep my temper.
"Miss Russell, could you please relax for a minute?" Sebastian's voice made me look at him in surprise. He had been awfully calm during all this mess.
"Mr. Leclair, I have no idea how this happened. I'm so sorry…"
"Evelyn, just take a deep breath. We'll sort it out."
"I'll just sleep in the car. I only need a place to change and have a bath…" I whispered under my breath.
"We have a honeymoon suite, and you're going to sleep in the car?" Sebastian chuckled.
"I don't think you're going to stay in the car, Mr. Leclair…" I said, irritated by his attitude.
"No one is sleeping in the damn car. We will temporarily share the suite until we find another solution. I'm sure two people can stay in a suite."
I looked at him a bit reluctantly. This was my only solution, and deep down, I knew it. There wasn't going to be any free rooms on this island at this time of the year. I nodded in agreement, and Sebastian sighed in relief.
"You can be very stubborn if you want…" my Boss muttered as we walked towards our suite.
One thing was sure, the suite we were staying in was nearly as big as my apartment back home. The living room had two huge white sofas, a coffee table made of glass, and a plasma screen. At the other end of the room, a dining table for four people was placed near the window. The bedroom had a canopy bed with thin white curtains tied neatly with light blue tassels. A desk and a rocking chair by the widow filled the rest of the decoration. The room interior was styled in white and light blue or ocean blue colors, as some golden details added that extra luxurious vibe.
I walked once again towards the window and stared at the endless blue in front of me. I couldn't tell where the sea was ending or where the sky was starting…
"So, what do you think?" I heard Sebastian's voice somewhere behind me.
"It's the best view I've ever seen…"
"It surely is, but I was asking about the room…" Sebastian trailed off.
I turned to look at him, suddenly aware of our weird situation, "Oh, I think we'll manage, at least for a night. This place is huge!"
"Okay, then. I asked the man to inform us if he finds any available room."
"Great. Shall we put some ground rules, then?"
Sebastian looked at me with a raised eyebrow. "I'm listening, Miss Russell…"
"Um, I'll take the sofa, you can sleep on the bed…"
"No, you'll take the bed," he cut me mid-sentence.
"There's no need, sir," I protested.
"We're flipping a coin. Heads you take the bed, tails I'll sleep on the sofa," Sebastian said, and before I could even protest, he had already flipped it. "Tails!" he announced, showing me the coin.
I sent a glare his way, but he mimicked me, and I had to avoid his gaze. "I suppose that's sorted. There are two different closets, so each can take one. As for the bathroom, I guess that will be a problem…" I added, fidgeting with the hem of my blouse.
"I'm sure we'll come up with something, Miss Russell."
I sighed since I couldn't do anything else. "Just remember to knock before you enter," I told my Boss sternly.
"I promise, I'll behave," Sebastian chuckled.
After that, I proceeded to unpack my clothes and change into something more comfortable. I opted for a white sundress, sandals, and a big straw hat. We didn't have any meetings on this day, so I was planning to go for a walk.
Sebastian was sitting in the garden, working on his laptop, and I walked to him carefully.
"Are you going out, Miss Russell?"
"I thought I could take a walk if there isn't anything else you need me, sir."
"You can enjoy your day, Miss Russell. There's no need to worry about work."
"Thank you, sir. Can I ask another favor?" I blurted out, blushing a bit.
His grey eyes turned on me once again and gazed at me curiously.
"Can you help me with that, please? I don't want to get a sunburn…" I murmured, handing him the sunscreen.
He looked at me like I had two heads before standing up and coming closer to me.
I turned around, tying my long blonde hair into a messy bun.
"Don't blame me if you turn out like a lobster, though. Your skin is rather fair," my Boss joked, but I couldn't bring myself to laugh.
My senses were in overdrive as Sebastian caressed my back and my shoulders, applying the sunscreen. His hands made my skin burn even more than the sun. It wasn't anything weird, yet it felt so sensual. I closed my eyes, letting myself enjoy the moment.
"Okay, done," Sebastian exclaimed.
"Thank you, sir," I whispered, turning around once again to face him. Instantly I realized my mistake; we were so close once again. His grey eyes traveled from my blue ones to my lips, and I gulped nervously. I knew for sure that I couldn't take that road once again, so I stepped back, taking a deep breath.
"I know what you did with a coin earlier…" I said, my voice trembling a bit.
"Sometimes I tend to forget that you're a smart woman, Miss Russell," Sebastian said, putting his hands into his pants pockets and walking back to his seat.
"Well, we can always flip another coin," I offered.
"There is no need. We make our own luck, Miss Russell…"
I looked at him, trying to comprehend his words. Clearly, he hadn't done that unintentionally; he had chosen to sleep on the sofa.
"Thank you, sir," I said once again and headed inside. "Oh, and it's Evelyn," I added, stealing another glance at his figure.
I walked out of our hotel and into the quiet alleys of that beautiful island. As I walked closer to the port, the narrow, cobblestone alleys were full of people of different ages and ethnicities. It was hard to navigate among the crowd while paying attention to all the tiny details: the magenta and purple bougainvillea, the small shops with handmade souvenirs, the numerous bars and coffee shops, the delicious smell of the local cuisine.
I walked beside the sea for a long time until my eyes caught sight of the windmills. Mykonos was also called "The island of the wind" that's why the locals had built these large, white windmills. They were spinning really fast, but all I could feel was a light breeze, making the scorching sun a bit more sufferable.
After wandering for more than an hour, I stopped at a small restaurant to eat something. Besides, I had almost forgotten to take my medication on time. I ordered some of the local dishes that the waiter assured me I'd love. All the locals were friendly and greeted me with a big smile. They even advised me of some places I had to visit when I told them it was my first time on the island.
The sun, the sea, the wind made the atmosphere carefree and relaxing. No one was rushing to go to their work, and you couldn't even hear a car moving. Life here was completely different than back in New York.
I took my time returning to our hotel. I made many stops at various shops buying presents for my family and friends and some beautiful pieces of handmade jewelry I found. Of course, I didn't forget my Boss; for him, I chose a miniature of a ship that was carved from real wood. It was the least I could do to thank him for taking me here…
Finally, once back in our suite, I called out Sebastian many times, but he didn't respond. Neither was he outside where I left him. In my relief, he must have gone out, too. This was my perfect chance to have a shower and change clothes.
The bathroom was spacious and luxurious, and everything was made of white marble. I glanced towards the large bathtub, tempted to fill it with tepid water and my favorite bath salts, and sank in. But since I had no idea for how long Sebastian would be out, I couldn't risk it; a shower would be enough.
I stripped and stepped under the cascading water inside the shower cabin. I rinsed my long hair and then my body, taking my time massaging my sore legs. I had walked a lot, but it was worth it. Mentally checking the next day's schedule, I remembered that we didn't have any meetings in the afternoon. Hopefully, I could visit one of the many golden beaches and swim in the turquoise waters.
My mind trailed off, forgetting where I was. My movements were mechanical, even when I closed the water and moved to grab the thick white towel. That's when a movement caught my attention, and I turned towards the door.
Sebastian walked casually inside the bathroom, only wearing his swimsuit. My gaze trailed across his toned body to his face. Our eyes met, and for a moment, I thought the earth had stopped moving and time had frozen…
