Chapter 25
Lumae slowly walked up to Lady Victoria, her white dress and dark hair swooshed along with a gust of wind as the moon illuminated her figure. Dominic made sure to stay six steps behind in his wolf form in order to protect his mate. When Lumae finally reached a meter in front of Lady Victoria, she stood still.
"Lady Victoria. I've heard a lot about you. It is an honour to be standing in front of someone so skilled."
Lady Victoria had a malicious smirk on her. "Awww, dear Luna Lumae. If you know about my past, you clearly know that I'm aware of your little 'secret'. Now I don't know what you're planning to do with my nephew's pack," she started walking closer to Lumae with Dominic standing more on guard now, "and I don't know what type of sorcery you used to let him think you're his mate, but I won't stand for it." She sighed.
"Give up now, or go down with a fight. It's up to you Luna." She swiftly turned around, transformed into her wolf form and disappeared into the forest.
Lumae now worriedly looked at Dominic. "It didn't work."
He sighed, transformed back and gave Lumae a comforting hug. "It's alright. We're strong enough to get through this, especially with the Noir pack, we'll be able to defeat my aunt."
Lumae looked up at Dominic's eyes as soon as he said that. "I don't want to fight, Dominic. The pack comes first at any and all times, not me, not you, the pack."
Dominic stroked Lumae's cheek with his right hand. "But without a leader, the pack is nothing. Without you, I'm nothing. We don't have much of a choice, Lumae. My aunt has chosen to fight, so we'll fight, and you're NOT going to stand down." Lumae sighed and just complied with Dominic.
For the next few minutes, people from the Noir and the Tenebris pack were busy preparing for battle. Preparing their weapons, such as bows and arrows, swords etc. Since guns would be too loud and let every human from miles away know that something was going on, it'd be too risky. The betas and stronger omegas stayed in their wolf form along with the two alphas. The rest of the packs were armed with weapons of all sorts and the women and children were huddled up somewhere safe, Lumae included.
Then it all went quiet. Too quiet. You can hear the faintest of sounds from the furthest distances with this amount of quietness. Everything felt eery. The wind suddenly wooshed through the forest and went quiet.
The next moment, all anyone could hear was wolves growling and snarling, metal clanking and slashing and people yelling out orders left and right. Lumae could no longer bare the thought of having caused this. If she weren't Dominic's mate, this would've never happened. This was her fight, not theirs, and she was just sitting on the sidelines.
She rushed towards the exit with every woman trying to stop her as she went, but she carefully dodged them, got out and went straight to where the battle was. To where everyone was giving up their lives for the sake of her.
When Lumae got to the battlefield, everyone was busy fighting, no one cared who they were fighting with or against, they just knew who they were fighting for. Dominic was about to sneak up on Lady Victoria from behind in the middle of the field, but when he noticed Lumae standing in the middle of the fight, he got distracted. Lady Victoria managed to pin Dominic down, holding a dagger to his throat.
Not long after, her men managed to pin down not only the Noir pack, but the entire Tenebris pack as well. A group of men then also came to the scene, leading the group of women and children to the battlefield. Lumae didn't know what to do or how to respond and just looked at Lady Victoria dumbfound.
"You see, Lumae. I don't believe in second chances, but I'll give you the choice again. You've been lucky so far. You haven't lost anyone. So I'll ask again, will you surrender yourself to me, so I can finish what has been started, or will you stand your ground and give up your entire pack? It's your choice."
Lumae was at a loss for words. She knew what the right thing to do was. She knew she had to surrender herself to save her pack, the Noir pack, and to save her mate.
She looked at Dominic with the dagger to his throat, trying to tell Lumae not to give herself up. Lumae had to choose between her mate's wishes and the good of the pack. She looked down at the ground, closed her eyes and sighed.
She took one slow step towards Lady Victoria at a time and when she finally reached her, she bent down and leaned over to Dominic's ear. "I'm so sorry, but this is for the good of the pack." She retracted her head and gave him a long kiss on the forehead with a tear falling down her cheek.
"No, Lumae. No, y-you can't do this. You can't leave me like this." Lumae ignored Dominic's words and slowly stood up.
"Lumae, don't. Please, please don't do this." Tears started filling Dominic's eyes, but Lumae didn't dare look at them, she knew that if she did, she'd want to stay with him.
She instead looked Lady Victoria straight in the eyes. Lumae was about to say something, when a howl was heard on the distance. A familiar howl that she'd heard before. The howl of the rogue alpha.
Lumae could hardly even blink, and the battlefield was filled with rogues everywhere she looked, fighting off each and every one of Lady Victoria's men. Lumae had never seen, let alone heard about anything that had ever happened like this. She didn't even know that rogues were anywhere near them, but she aure was glad that they were there.
They managed to reverse the roles onto Lady Victoria's me in less than two minutes. When they knew that there was no way of escape for her men, a brown wolf with a white belly came up to Lumae. He was clearly the one who led the rogues. The rogue alpha.
He looked Lumae straight in the eyes and sighed. Just then, the alpha slowly transformed back into his human form, having extremely familiar features. When Lumae finally managed to make out who it was, she was shaken to her bones.
Landon stood right in front of her, clearly he grew much more over the years, he's got more fit, his hair is now at medium length, and he isn't too bad looking, but it still didn't explain what he was doing there and how he managed to hide his wolf form and scent from her this entire time.
He awkwardly smiled as he looked at Lumae. "Hey, Lumae. Long time no see, eheh."
