Chapter 27

After a soothing, long day of relaxation, Lumae finally woke up from her slumber. Stretching and yawning. Standing in front of the bed, was Sera, standing in front of Lumae with a delicious breakfast and a cup of coffee.

"Good morning, Luna. Hope you've slept well."

"*Yawn* Yes, thank you, Sera. It was the best sleep I've had in days."

Sera smiled, "Well that's good then." She walked over to the side of Lumae and placed down the tray of food on the night stand.

"Well, I'll leave you to it then, Luna. I've got to finish a few things, then I'll be with you."

"Very well then. See you later Sera."

After Lumae's amazing breakfast, she headed towards the gorgeous bathroom connected to her room, since she wasn't in the mood to go to the springs this morning. She drew the bath as she prepared her clothes and slowly eased into the nice, steaming, hot water. The perfect sensation to get Lumae ready for the day.

Lumae then took it all in and sank deeper into the water. She was enjoying this relaxation. Just then, a knock came from the door, but Lumae didn't hear it. Then, another knock, but she still didn't hear it. Dominic then came barging through the door, shocking Lumae. When Dominic noticed that she was in the bathroom he immediately turned his back to the door, as though he was trying to cover x-ray vision or something.

"Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't know you were in the bathroom. I'll just come back later." He was about to leave, but Lumae exited the bathroom with a towel wrapped around her body.

"It's alright, you can talk to me now." She took a few steps towards Dominic, but suddenly felt extremely light-headed.

She stumbled a bit, but did not yet fall. "Dominic, I don't feel-". Lumae fell to the ground, but Dominic luckily caught her, just before she could hit it.

"Lumae? Lumae! Hey, wake up! Come on honey. Come on, just wake up!" Dominic clutched onto Lumae and brought her head up to his chest.

"Sera! Call the physician!"

Dominic was now brought back to the memory of him, clutching on to his dying mother in the exact same way. They were both covered in her own blood, but he didn't care about that. All that he cared about was whether or not his mother would make it. She brought her bloody hand up to his cheek, looked at him sympathetically, as though he was the one in pain when she was dying. She kindly smiled and said something, but it came out muffled. He couldn't hear what she said or even seem to make out what she was trying to say. Her words were empty and blank.

The next moment, Dominic sprung up from his slumber, on a chair next to Lumae's bed. He was clearly very worried about her to the point where his mind started comparing her to his deceased mother.
When the physician next to Dominic noticed that he was awake, he moved to Dominic's side and carefully sat on the edge of Lumae's bed. "She'll be alright. It was just stress and exhaustion from the other day. It seems that she just had a bit of a late reaction towards all of the events, but she should be fine by tomorrow. For now, she just needs to rest. She woke up a while ago, but she's already fallen asleep."

Dominic shook his head, "Alright then, thank you doctor." The doctor nodded then headed out of the room.

Dominic then slowly slid his hand over to Lumae's and held it, squeezing it lightly. "Don't ever scare me like that again. I don't want to lose you too."

He sighed and placed his head on the bed, lying in that position for a while. Not even moments later, Lumae lightly squeezed his hand, letting him know that she's awake and well.

"Well, hello there my handsome alpha."

When Dominic heard Lumae's voice, he instantly sprung over the bed and embraced her. "Don't you dare do that to me again."

Lumae smiled and hugged Dominic back. "You wanted to say something before I blacked out?
Dominic smiled, "Yes, but it's alright. It can wait."

"Nope, it can't. Tell me."

Dominic now sighed. "Alright then, I wanted to ask you if you'd like to go back to Mortiferum. You know, go on with our jobs and such, but I think it'd rather be better to stay here a bit longer."

Lumae placed her hand on Dominic's cheek. "Well, I think it's a great idea. We should've already been back, but here we are."

Dominic chuckled. "Alright then. I'll ask Sera to start packing your things.

A few hours later, Lumae and Dominic were on the road, on their way back to Mortiferum, but it started getting late, so they went to the same motel she went to a while ago. "Dominic, must we really stay here?"

"Yes, it's getting late and it's more dangerous at night. I'm thinking of your safety first. Why?"

Lumae sighed, she wanted to tell him about what she'd experienced, but decided to keep it to herself. "Never mind. It's nothing."

They then went to book themselves in at the office, but they ran into a situation. "We only have one double bedroom left, no single beds. If you really mind sleeping in one bed, there's a camp site just a few miles further, but you'll have to sleep in your car then.

Dominic smiled and handed the office lady some money. "We'll take it."

She then placed a room key on the desk, with the number 304. "There ya go. Sleep tight."

Lumae and Dominic then headed to the room, which for some reason felt oddly familiar. When they went inside, she realised that it was the room, just a few rooms away from where the murder happened. Dominic then looked back at Lumae and saw the shock in her face.

"What's wrong? What happened?"

Lumae sprung back to her senses immediately, "O-Oh nothing, just thought I saw something, eheh."

Dominic looked suspicious of Lumae's behaviour, but he let it slide, "Yyyyeah, sure. Which side do you want?"

Lumae wasn't completely sure what Dominic was talking about, she was more fixated on the murder that happened there. "I'm sorry, what?"

Dominic was still suspicious and confused about what was going on with Lumae. "The bed. Which side do you want?"

"Oh, oh. The left side, definitely the left side, anything but the window's side."

Dominic just shook his head, "Alright, left side it is."

That night, Dominic was fast asleep, but Lumae couldn't even blink an eye. Every sound, sight and smell coming from the window shook her bones. It is rare for Lumae to be frightened of such things so easily, but something about this entire thing just didn't feel right. So through the entire night, all Lumae could do was stare at the old, white, dirty, stained roof and hope that the night ended quickly.
