Chapter 40

Lady Francesca calmly walked down the stairs, but the anxious-filled aloha couldn't wait any longer. He rushed over to her and gently grabbed her shoulders. "Is she alright, Lady Francesca? Is it something I might have done wrong? Will she be fine?"

Lady Francesca manoeuvred herself out of Dominic's grip. "Young man, do show some respect. I know you're worried and all, but that's no reason to grab me like that."

Dominic immediately retracted his hands that lingered in the air after Lady Francesca escaped his grasp, remembering just how strict she could really be. "Right, I'm sorry Lady Francesca."

She then smiled and nodded approvingly. "Luna Lumae will be all right. Her body just seems to have reacted in an entirely different way to ours. So she basically used up a lot of energy and would need all the rest she can get, not to the point where she'll be in a coma, but she still needs to take it easy."

Dominic gave a sigh of relief. "I thought it might have been something on my part. That's a relief to hear."

Lady Francesca smiled, then remembered something. "Oh, and do be careful for now. She cannot get pregnant for the next two weeks. She'll have a higher chance of becoming with child and, due to her state, it could be very dangerous for her. It's like this for most she-wolves."

Dominic's face clearly dropped a little, but he gave Lady Francesca a nod of understanding. He was determined to make sure that his mate would be in top tier shape. So there's no way that he'd be laying a hand on her at all. Self-restraint, it couldn't be that hard, could it?

Lady Francesca chuckled at the determined face that managed to creep onto Dominic's face. "You'll do amazing."

She then stroked his cheek with her left hand and gently smiled. "Your mother would've been so proud of the man you're trying to become."

Dominic smiled and gently leaned into her hand. "We'll then. I have to get going. Call me whenever you need me, my little slacker."

She then turned around a gracefully exited the manor. Once Lady Francesca was gone, Dominic immediately went up to the bedroom to go check on Lumae. She was still in bed, fast asleep and unaware of the worries going on around her.

Dominic then grabbed a chair and sat next to Lumae, but he was starting to get restless. He couldn't just sit still and do nothing. He had to get himself busy.

He then sprung up, went downstairs and grabbed a roller with a bunch of cleaning products and headed back upstairs. Dominic then started to clean the room.

Just then, he heard a groan from the bed. He immediately turned around and saw that Lumae was awake and sitting upright. He rushed towards her and quickly embraced her.

"Didn't I tell you to never scare me like that again?"

Lumae still didn't know why Dominic reacted this way, but she felt too tired to try and ask him. As he held on to her, she suddenly started to doze off again. When Dominic realised that she was once again asleep, he gently laid her back down and covered her with the blanket.

He then slowly slid down next to the bed and held Lumae's hand, eagerly waiting for her to wake up again, and he slowly started to doze off himself. What almost felt like minutes seemed to surprisingly be hours. Both Lumae and Dominic seem to have slept for nearly the entire day.

Dominic was the first to awake and notice the time. He then decided to stand up and go down to the kitchen to make supper. As he was doing so, Lumae suddenly walked down the stairs slowly and carefully. When Dominic noticed her, he immediately rushed to her and gently grabbed her arm to lead her down the stairs and help her sit in the living room without exchanging any words.

When he was certain that Lumae would be alright, he went back to the kitchen to finish supper. After a while, he came out with two huge bowls of chicken and veggie soup. He then handed Lumae one, sat down and searched for a film, so they could at least have some sort of entertainment.

When they were done eating, Dominic quickly washed the dishes then went back to the living room to see if he could go help Lumae, but by the time he got there, she was gone. He immediately went into a panic and started searching everywhere. The library, study, garage, just in case.

He then came back to his senses, and started wondering why he was so panicky all of a sudden. He went upstairs, where he then found Lumae peacefully sleeping in the bed without a care in the world. Dominic then prepared his clothes and went to the bathroom to take a quick shower before getting into bed and getting a good night's rest in before he'd have to go to work tomorrow.

He really didn't even want to go at all, since he didn't know how Lumae would be by then, but he also knew that he couldn't afford to be absent again, even if it was to take care of Lumae. The faster he took care of that mole, the better. He wrapped his arm around Lumae and slightly pulled her closer to him as he then slowly went to sleep, worried about what the following day might hold for him.
