Chapter 41

The next day, Dominic left Lumae at the manor. She seemed quite well when he left, so he wasn't too worried, but he still felt bad about leaving her alone.

Upon his arrival, he was met with an entire crowd of his employees grouping up around someone. "Hey, hey. What is all this?"

As soon as everyone realised that Dominic had finally arrived, they all gave way to show a completely new and improved Jackson. His hair partially grew out and was set in a messy style. His outfit completely changed, and he had a clear visible tattoo on his neck.

"Good morning Mr. Mortez." Jackson gave Dominic a cocky smirk as he greeted him.

"I haven't seen Lumae here yet? Do you know if she might be late today?" Jackson clearly knew that he was starting to indirectly push on Dominic's buttons. He wanted Dominic to see that he wanted Lumae as well.

Dominic was just about to lose his temper, but took a deep breath and grinned, noticing an opportunity to put Jackson in his place. "She hasn't felt well since yesterday so I told her to stay at home, even though she seemed a bit better this morning I wouldn't want to take any chances."

Jackson scowled at the thought of Dominic and Lumae staying under the same roof for an entire night. He tightened his fists by his sides as his mind started drifting to the fact that they might have even slept in the same bed. That they could've probably been mere inches away from each other the entire time. He hated the fact that Dominic had that advantage. If only he'd met Lumae a little earlier, then he might've been in that exact same position.

Dominic then, noticing Jackson's anger building up, turned around and left towards the elevator to go to his office. Usually Scarlett would be there before him, but it seemed that she was running late today. He then went into his office and patiently started with his work.

Meanwhile, Jackson went to 'the forest', took out a flash drive from his pocket and inserted it into his computer. He then downloaded something onto it from the flash drive. Once it was all done, Jackson took out the flash drive, headed out of 'the forest' where Scarlett was waiting for him and handed it to her.

"Is everything complete?"

He looked at her seriously. "Yes, Scarlett. You know I won't let him down."

"Yeah yeah, I know. It's hardly been a week or two, and you've already managed to become one of his favourites."
Jackson chuckled, "Well, what can I say? You've got to do what you've got to do."

sighed, rolled her eyes, then headed off to her office, making sure to sprint on her way there to give the illusion t cghat she was just late. She burst into Dominic's office with a mountain of paper, out of breath and full of sweat, making it seem as though she'd been running for a while.

"Sorry for being so late sir. I had to go retrieve these files for you. They need to be finished by tomorrow. It's all the complaints and compliments from our clients that need your signature before heading to the files. Dominic sighed at the massive heap of papers before him.

"Very well then. Thank you, Scarlett, you may go now."

Scarlett nodded her head and headed out to her office. When she was sure that no ine was looking, she quickly took out the hard drive and placed it into her handbag, so she could burn the evidence later.

Lumae, on the other hand, was bored out of her mind. She's been to the library over 5 times, but each time there's nothing that looks interesting. She's taken a warm soak in the bath, played some games, watched some movies, but nothing really helped to satisfy her boredom.

She really wanted to go back to work, to go do her crazy experiments on different plants, but she was stuck in the manor until tomorrow. She wondered if Jackson might have returned back to work after disappearing without out a word last time. He himself didn't think climbing the ranks would take this long. He had a plan, and he was going to see it all the way through, no matter how tough it was.

It was beginning to get late and Dominic quickly went to Scarlett's office to deliver the stack of papers, but she was once again not there. He thought that she might be off running around with papers again, so he quickly went to the bathroom before he could be spotted by her.

Meanwhile, as Dominic was in the bathroom, Scarlett came sprinting from around the corner, straight into his office and immediately went to his desk. She then started searching through his drawers and in his personnel files for something specific, but she didn't notice that Dominic had just finished up in the bathroom and was heading back to his office.

He checked his phone as he slowly walked towards the office. Sending Lumae a quick messagw that he'd be back home within the hour. When he then finally reached his door, he stretched out his hand towards the doorknob to open it, but a call from one of his managers came through, and he froze for a second. His hand still hovering over the doorknob as he picked up the call.

Seeing as it wasn't something too urgent, he quickly gave the person instructions and ended the call. He then opened the door and as he walked was immediately stopped, dead in his tracks.
