Chapter 33: A strange encounter with Mrs. Josie (2)

Mrs. Josie reassured me that I should not panic and that there was no one here who knew us except a few other men.
I watched as Mrs. Josie carefully made her way to the door and asked the man, "Who are you, please?"
"Hello, I am looking for Mrs. Josie, just now our lady invited you to dine at our mansion tomorrow."
Mrs. Josie made sure the person outside the door was safe in the doorway, then opened it and asked cordially, "Who is your wife, please?"
"You must be Mrs. Josie!" The man was dressed as a soldier, like a soldier guarding the door of some minister's house.
"Yes." Mrs. Josie replied.
"Our lady is Mrs. Yara, she dined with you today, she said she had a good conversation today and looks forward to meeting and talking again tomorrow, she will also call on Mrs. Stormy and Mrs. Morgen."
I was probably able to guess that these three ladies were the same three ladies we had dined with today.
Mrs. Josie said enthusiastically, "Oh! God! Is it true? Mrs. Yara is an extremely nice person who would be so attentive, but dear Mr. Soldier, please be sure to tell Mrs. Yara for me that I appreciate her kindness, but tomorrow I am going to travel with my daughter, and I guess we won't be able to attend this party on time!"
"Mrs. Josie, I think our Lady will be looking forward to your attendance with your daughter, but I'm sorry you have important business to attend to, so I'm sorry on behalf of our Lady, I'll let our Lady know what you say, but if you have any changes in your plans, please be sure to contact our Lady first. " The soldier handed Mrs. Josie a piece of paper with a phone number written on it.
"Oh my! Mrs. Yara is a meticulous person! I appreciate what she has done and I will take good care of this phone and I will let her know if I have any news!"
"Yes, Mrs. Josie, I wish you and your daughter a wonderful trip!"
Mr. Soldier saluted Mrs. Josie and me, who was standing behind her and left.
We closed the door behind us and sat down at the table, I was a little puzzled about what had just happened, I asked Mrs. Josie, "Madam, why did you refuse Mrs. Yara's invitation just now, at the banquet of the ministers' wives, I thought we would get more information."
Mrs. Josie looked at me very seriously and said, "Actually, my dear, many of the issues regarding the officers' internal affairs have been understood at our gathering today, haven't they?"
When I think about it, it's true.
"Then, at the party tomorrow, Mrs. Yara will entertain us as very good friends, and then we will probably talk about many topics, but the things that women talk about among themselves, no matter what, will not escape the various topics of the day, and the best case is to deepen these topics, such as the birth of a child in some mansion, the death of some lord's wife, a certain lady is angry, etc. These have nothing to do with what we want to get, and going there is just a waste of time."
"And, what I said is just the most optimistic scenario, if things get bad and those ladies have found out, or discovered our identity in conversation, they will probably do something bad to us, such as kidnapping, murder, etc., because they disclose their own community's hidden information before."
I was frightened by Mrs. Josie's words. It was such a dangerous thing to take the king's place in the dark patrol!
"Are those people going to take a shot at us?" I asked.
"Yes, this will happen every year before the tour, and it is because of this that the various communities are slowly learning when the king will all start his secret tour."
"What would the king do if something like this happened?"
"It will not be dealt with, the family of the deceased will be given a generous amount of money, but the cause of death of the deceased can not be found, and even if the culprit is found, it will not be possible to show the true identity, but only to sentence for the ordinary crime of murder. Because people like us at this time is no identity, admitted our most secret identity is the same as the king admitted his this secretly conducted activity, in the future work more difficult to carry out."
I looked at Mrs. Josie, she looked like she had been through a lot of similar things, her expression was flat and calm when she said those words, I guess she had been through a lot!
"Mrs. Josie, how long have you been doing this work?"
"Ten years."
I was shocked by her answer, a woman who had been working in this dangerous job for ten years, and I could now appreciate the power of Madame Josie, and I understood why the men respected her so much. It may be that in the territories under the King's jurisdiction, men respect women, but not all women receive such respect from men, and I am sure that Madame Josie is the special one!
While I was thinking about it, the men came in one by one, all with smiles on their faces, and you could tell that it was a great day!
Mrs. Josie stood up to greet them, and what followed was a five-hour-long summary of the discussion, in which I actively participated, with great interest in this new and challenging work.
At 11:00 p.m., the talk was over, and we returned to our rooms with our notebooks. Mrs. Josie told me that tonight's discussion was the smoothest it had been in as many days and that none of the Night People seemed to know much about the King's Patrol and were on their guard.
"Is that bad?" I asked.
"You have to understand, my dear, that there are always two sides to a colony's performance, either good or bad, and we need to consider them all analytically."
I was a little puzzled by what Mrs. Josie said, and Mrs. Josie saw it, and then said to me very patiently, "Miss Evelynn, please think carefully about why the Night People are not on our guard."
"Because their Alpha didn't tell them about it."
"Yes. So, what do you think that means?"
"It means that the Alpha of the Night tribe is not taking this matter seriously or, for that matter, feels confident about the problems in the places under their jurisdiction."
"Well, yes, that's kind of the case."
"Is there anything else going on?" I was puzzled.
"Yes, you said this is a good aspect, let's not consider that the management of the Night Clan is not that good, just to say another possibility why they do not pay attention. Some time ago the Night Clan invaded the Red Night Clan, the White Night Clan helped the Red Night Clan, I think you should know about this matter, right?"
"Yes, ma'am."
"Of course, this matter is also very clear to King Adolf." Mrs. Josie continued, "At that time when the war broke out, the king analyzed the situation of this war and finally concluded that the Night Clan's Alpha most likely had the ambition of wanting to seize all the territory."
My eyes widened in shock at this conclusion, and Mrs. Josie's words brought back painful memories of a time when I didn't think that much about helping William.
"The Alpha of the Night Clan is a very brutal man who also possesses great ambition, and another bad possibility is that from the very beginning, he did not take the matter of the king's tour to heart, whether it was the pre-secret tour or the subsequent king's tour."
"If that's the case, do we need to report it to the king so he can take action?"
Mrs. Josie smiled at my words, and she said happily: "No, my dear, these things need not concern us, for our great King has long since taken all these circumstances into consideration, and I accept your kindness for the great King."
I could feel Mrs. Josie's respect for the king, who I think must be a great and friendly man!
William's POV
Horsford's emotions stabilized, but, I knew that he was now very sad. Shirley was the girl he had loved since he was a child, and after several years, he still loved her, and this feeling became stronger and stronger with time. I was able to see that after Forsford's efforts these past few days, Shirley had fallen in love with this attractive man!
Horsford held his head, very painful, his tears dripping to the ground, he said to me in a sad voice: "You know, William, Shirley has always been a very decent girl, she would tell me everything about her without hiding when I learned about her life, I love this strong, attractive girl, she is very optimistic, she must not choose to commit suicide because of anything! Not!"
"I know, Forsford, so please do be strong and go investigate this, Gina's death makes me sad too and I will find the real killer!"
"So, William, I want to go to Golden Hall now, and I want to see where Shirley last died, is that okay?"
I didn't hesitate to agree to his request. Horsford and I got in the car to go to the Golden Hall, and I could feel that Forsford had become less talkative. On the way, he kept staring at the cell phone in his hand, which had Shirley's cell phone number on it.
"William, Shirley said she'd call me, even if she wouldn't come back!"
I patted Forsford's shoulder and didn't say anything. I couldn't understand their feelings deeply, but I knew the best comfort now was to be by his side, without too many words.
From a long way away, I could already see Jason and Albert standing at the door waiting for us. Jason had already reported the place to me on the phone earlier, and they found nothing wrong. I looked at Albert, who didn't say anything, and I was a little surprised by that, but I didn't say anything and walked straight into the golden hall.
I walked down the same road I walked last night and said to them as I went, "This is where I saw the light on in Gina's room last night, and when I got to the stairs, Gina ran out of her room screaming, and I think she must have been in shock."
"Yes, King, but there is another possibility," Jason said.
I, Albert, and Forsford looked together at Jason, only to see his face barely showing any expression as he looked at me and said, "King, I know this conjecture of mine will strike you, if not everyone, as absurd, but it is the only thing that can explain why the scene of Miss Shirley's death is so clean! "
