Chapter 15 Shadows of The Past Part I

Long ago magic was sacred and only magical creatures such as dragons and fairy's possessed magic, and each of them had their own magic such as Dragon magic. Few humans where able to learn magic after they managed to gather knowledge from the dragons themselves, soon they where able to master their own magical skills and they chose to pass it down form master to apprentice, through the centuries. These great wizards and witches had great power and often served kings and queens for generations, but that all changed when is was discovered everyone had the potential to learn and use magic. Over night it became more wide spread and more types of magic where discovered, groups formed to teach magic amongst themselves. But to learn magic meant you had to join a group as there was no one place to learn magic out side of finding those who where willing to teach. With anything with the growing number of magic users many feared that they may become a threat as those with out magic would be helpless to stop them. However they never did, not until a new magic was created.
"Should I stop." he said.
His bald head smooth and reflective in the dim glow of candle light in the small room at the inn, his was dressed in a dark and tattered black leather amour that was war torn.
"No." she said as she strengthened her grip on his arm.
He looked at her arm then up her legs as they sat laying on one another as she sat sideways on the bed, her long flowing white hair flood like silk and her white flowing dress was similar to a night gown.
He cleared his throat as she continued "Okay so where as I, that s right." his voice sounded as it had hundred of years to it but he didn t seem older then a man of forty. "Necromancy was a new type of magic, it allowed the user power other death itself."
She just sat looking at him as he spoke looking of in to the distance recounting his years spent in the past.
"It was so powerful that only one man was able to wiled it, and what he tried to unite the magic's of the world under one roof." he face sunk as he remembered his travels.
"What s wrong." said sat jumping up to get closer to him.
"I tried so hard to do good, I raised army s form the dead to fight back against evil and all it got me was the feared and hatted." he sighed as he turned to her, reaching to hold her hand.
She swung her legs over to sit up straight as they held hands and looked in to each others eyes.
"Now they hunt me down, but that s why I made this," he said as he turned around and came back pulling out a ring.
It s brass body held a purl in the centre.
Pulling her hands to her face unsure on what to make of it.
"I made this for you." he said and he pulled her hand out toward him.
She felt like a queen as he slipped the on her finger.
"I ve used my greatest magic, in infuse the ring with the power to stop the wearer from dying." he said as he looked.
She pulled her hand to admire the ring.
"As long as you keep that ring no one can touch you." he said as a smile broke out on his face.
The thought hit her as she slowly dropped her hand down and looked at him "Why are you giving this to me?" she asked.
"As a Necromancer I have the power to stop death, and so can t die, and seeing as I can just kill any one who comes at me. As for you, I can t keep you safe for ever and since they can t harm me they are going after the the ones I love."
"What about your family." she asked fearing for others before her own life..
"I ve walked this earth longer then any man, anyone I had is long since dead." he said as looked down in grief "But you." he said turning to stare at her tacking both hands "Your all I have, and I want to keep you safe, just don t remove the ring."
"Okay." she said as they both pulled the other in for a hug.
He would be goings soon, she knew that much but that s all she knew about the man she had just met the night before in the tavern. Even so she trusted him like no one else.
"It s funny." he smiled as they broke off the hug.
"Certain Magic's can compliment each other." he thought. "And that s all I tried to do."
She reached out to touch his cheek his ruff stubble feeling course on her hand, it fell away as he stood up. Walking away he was leaving but all she saw of him was his bald head and staff strapped to his back as he exited the room.
Ounce he had left she looked around the room then back at her ring, she stood up and put out the candles. One by one the room became darker as the light dimmed until only the moonlight form sky light up the wooden room from the open window. Returning to the bed she flew the cover up and to the side as she climbed in and laid down before pulling the cover back over to keep comfy in the cold night. Before she went to sleep she looked at the ring and despite the warning she took it over and let it rest on the nigh stand next to the bed, then as she lay it to rest spun around to face the window to try and sleep. As her mind drifted off two man climbed up though the window and came in to the room.
He was walking out of the inn his staff now in hand as it hi the ground as he walked, he was well under way for his grand plan, when he heard an explosion erupting form behind him. Spinning around the now burning inn had erupted in balls of flames coming form the room where he had only just been, he stopped and waited to see if she if she would submerge form the fire at any moment. As time seemed almost slow he found himself almost frozen to to the spot as he waited, as the crowd was draw in she was no where to be seen, so he turned back around and left leaving behind all that he had loved the bound they shared was all but gone.
As the years passed and time went by the lonely Necromancer faded out love from his life until the day he met a Dragon in a village. He was walking around the large vast city when he spotted her inside a local tavern talking to other magic users. She was in a humanoid form and was dressed in a enchanters robe it s vibrant mix of purples greens and oranges cut together white lines mixed in made her stand out admits the more dull tones of the other patrons. Her vibrant white scales a contrast to the darkness of the tavern, but he was draw to her so much, he walked in pushing the door open to the sound of music and good times had bye all filled the air. As he made his way over to the tale, the two the others left, he caught their good byes as they parted.
"We ll look forward to working with you." they said leaving shaking her hands.
Passing as they left he chose to sit where they had across from her at the table by the window.
"I ve never seen a Dragon take a more human form before." he said looking at her in wonder.
"Well, when one is trying to work with humans, one has to take on their likeness." she said smiling at him,
"My name is San-saw." he said reaching out a arm to touch hers.
"You can me me Bella." she smiled again bowing her head as she reached out her hand in response.
He took her hand and instead of hearty and shake lent in to kiss it with a gentle touch, both seemed to have a distant connection and so after the formalities the two spoke business.
"What is a dragon doing looking to work with humans?" he asked sitting back to get more comfy.
"I m looking to open a guild, not one that is closed off but open to the people." she said as she envisioned it before her. "I plan to get other magic users to help teach the magic as well."
"Can I join." he offered with a smirk.
"What s your magic?" she asked doubtfully.
"Necromancy." he said leaning forwards his hands joined as they where placed on the table.
"I haven t seen much for Necromancers, in the world of magic."
"It s a slow going magic, but I m the first and I m trying to find others to train."
"How long have you been on this quest?"
"Not long, a few years, but Necromancy grant s me immortality through my own power."
"So why have there been no other Necromancers?"
"I don t now." he said as a sombre tears rolled down his face.
"Well, if there are any they can join you at the Magic Users Guild." she smiled
"That s not the name now is it?" he chuckled as the tear seemed to all but disappear.
"Yes when I put my name to it I want to ensure I m ready to stand by it."
"Okay then, the Magic Users Guild it is, when do we start?"
"The others will get started of the build it self, but for now we need to get to now each other some more." she smiled leaning in to get closer.
He saw her eyes flirting with him and now was time to move on, their bound was strong and so it only made it easer.
Out on the plains of a great and vast empty space the other three wizards/witches where using their magic to creates a school and home for all the students to come and learn magic. They stood in concentration as they used their combined magic off elemental, physical and transmutation to summon all they would need. Bell and San-saw arrived they joined in and helped erect the Magic Users Guild, using their powers of Necromancy and Enchanting the guild soon formed around them with a circle courtyard with five towers leading on to the main building. Each tower was representative of each the five magic's and decked out in their respective colours. Ounce it had been built they stepped in to start the next chapter in magic history. Now the guild was founded and word sent out people form all around the world came to learn magic.
As the years past Bell and San-saw grew close as new guild members came and went wile they stayed on, but in their love for each other came their love for their son, the first Dragon born to attend the guild.
Sitting in class his short black hair was a stark contrast to his fathers bald head as he sat at the front of the class teaching advanced Necromancy. The room was large enough to sit an entire class of students with a large black board on the back behind an elevated area with guard rail to as a barrier. This was for the teacher to have authority over the class. As San-saw walked up and down it he passed small set of stairs used to get up and down, as he spoke words spewed form his mouth departing his knowledge upon to his students. Bella walked in to see San-saw and as he was so distracted by her, he had decided to end the class a bit early.
"Anyway."he said coming out of his trance. "I think it s a good idea to stop her for today."
They all started to pack up their note books.
"And don t forget what I told you." he remarked.
As the students got up to leave the class room San-saw slowly moved towards Bella as she waited for the students to leave.
"You now we can t keep meeting up like this." he sniggered as he kissed her.
Many students looked away at seeing their teachers kiss.
"That s not why I m here." she smiled back at him.
"What is it then?"
"You told me that Necromancers can live for ever, now you can stay here and teach as long as you like but." she paused unsure on to what to say next "What about the students so many have already passed thought are doors, what happens when they choose to do the same and then what, we ll have an army on are hands."
"Don t worry, we ve taken care of it." he said tacking her hands in his.
She looked in to his warm eyes.
"We ve created a world under ground where we can go ounce we reach one hundred years of age, that way there won t be an army."
"Thank you." she said as she kissed him back.
The two hugged but then someone interjected.
"Mum." came a voice.
The two parted to see the young child Kyle behind them.
"What is it?" she asked.
"I know Dragons live for long times, but to ensure you can live with us for ever I made you ring to stop you dying." he said as pulled out a silver ring with a large black stone in the middle.
She took it form his hand and looked at it.
"Thank you." she said as she kissed him dearly.
The boy ran off happy, down the purple and black coloured halls of the Necromancy wing.
"Your all ready old for a dragon." said San-saw.
"Yes." she replied.
"So how is it/"
"I m still alive.
"Yes, if you don t mind me asking
"I have enchanted my dress with the same magic in the ring."
"How." he asked "Only Necromancers can do that."
She tuned away form him. "Your ring, the one you told me about.
"The one I gave to my first love."
"I picked it at a stall one day and moved the enchantment?"
"Oh, so what are you going to do with the ring?"
"Put it in the vault to keep it safe."
"Vault, what vault."
"I ll show you."
As the two left down the halls Bell was quite wile San-saw was more curious about the unknown vault.
As they walked towards the vault they came to the halls with high pointed windows with slopped brick leading to the wall, these halls where used by all and as of such had no colour, as they two walked they decided to talk.
"Why do we have vault?" wondered San-saw.
"As the guild, we try to find and destroy magic items that could be miss used." said Bella.
"I know it s what we agreed on, when we founded it."
"But as Dragon, magic is part of me." as she said it she held her heart "I can t just let magic be destroyed."
"So the vault keeps them safe."
"No, when ever we come across something we haven t seen before I keep one and destroy anything that we have seen already."
"How much is in there?"
"A few trinkets but also the book." she said looking back at him.
They stopped at a section he had not seen before, looking down hall to an empty wall that lead no where. They turned in to the hall parting at the junction as they walked towards their detestation. As the reached the end She waved her hand as a glow came over the bricks and they parted showing of a stair case going down in to the darkness.
As the two walked down the glow stayed and light up the dark room the only thing inside was a small pile of artefacts and a pillar of dragon quartz with a book laying atop it.
"What is it?" he asked peering at the book.
"Before I stared the guild I travelled the world and documented all the different types of magic in that book."
San-saw reach out to touch he book.
"But in order to keep it safe, I cursed it so anyone who touches the book will see a terrible fate befall them."
San-saw pulled back his hand. "Why did you do that?" he asked.
"I wanted to ensure it was protected, that s why no magic can be used in here, except when I remove the lock to enter."
He turned to face her. "Good to know they re safe."
She smiled at his reinsurance.
"As long as we stay on, the guild will always uphold are beliefs for the future of magic."
Truing around the two left to go back to their duties as teachers and guild members.
As the years passed their son grew up and graduated with flying colours, as he had passed his magic exams. Now as he was leaving to forge his way in the world leaving behind his family, he was a young adult and looking forward to a life all to his own.
As he walked under the last gate past the large gardens on either side with large bushes made in to intricate shapes. As he was about to leave and take of in his dragon form he was stopped by his father.
"Kyle wait." he called out.
He stopped and looked back to see his hulking father run after him, he had grown tall and was quite a thin man now in his black leather coat that flowed like a rope, with longer hair that swayed around and staff to carry with him.
"You can t miss me already I haven't even left." he said cracking wise.
"It s not that, I have a task for you." he said catching up to him putting a arm on his shoulder.
"What is it?" he asked only to happy to oblige his dead old dad,
"I need you to bound your self to a Dragon soul." he said with urgency
"Why? he asked confused at the very notion.
"It s important." he pleaded. "You have to do this for me."
Believing his father he nodded as he turned back to fly off turning in to his dragon form, his black scales with purple streaks coming off, curving there way around his body. As he flaw away his form grew lager size as he grew ever higher taking off, his father watched on as his son disappeared in to the sky line, before returning back to the guild to await his return.
