Chapter 30 The Necromancers Legacy
Later the council had gathered to speak on what they should do about Necro s mother, all gathered around the table they all seemed to have the same questions on their mind. Necro had told them about what she had done and they where unsure on how to treat the first enemy of the kingdom that is not a cultist army.
Kyle chose to brake the silence "What are we going to do about, she s one of them, we can t leave her alive."
As the silence filled the room it came over him, that he had never caught the name of the women who had mothered his child, he had gone all this time and never ounce new who she was or if she had even cared for him.
"Mona." came a salutary replay.
They all looked over to see Necro s sombre hanging head, he didn t need to say it again, they knew what he had said, his mothers name was Mona.
"What are we going to do with Mona." Kyle started again this time less angry and more feeling.
"We have no cells." said Harris. "We can have so put in, but I feel like this was an isolated incident."
"We can t just let her go she has to pay for her crimes, like everyone else." added Blair "Magic has to be returned to it s former glory."
"We can t just kill her." pointed out Bella "She may have been apart of the Necromancer cult, but killing her solves nothing."
"We can take away her magic." offered Lady "Then she can do no harm, and…"
"Kill here." Interrupted Necro.
They where shocked by this, but not to much he had killed his grandfather twice and his father as well.
"She went after the book." he said.
"And that was it." protested Lady.
"We don t now why?" added Blair.
"FOR IT S POWER!" shouted Kyle getting back in to the fight.
"How can you be so cold to her." argued Harris, your spouse and mother, he said addressing them both.
"That s easy." Necro said in a sombre tone getting to his feet the room becoming cold. "She never married my father and only slept with him, and as for me she left me with the truth and never came back, so in way she made me who I am today." The room started to freeze as then ice started spread out and coat the walls.
"He s right." sighed Kyle. "She told him the truth and that s what led him to b here."
Necro stopped on the middle of the table as the ice turned to steam, all eyes on him.
"She was brainwashed form a young age by my grandfather." he spoke with anger in his voice, there was a harsh undertone "Brought up to believe all magic should be controlled, nothing more then a puppet." his pause gave the others fear of what he was going to say but they already knew it deep down. "She went after the book when they fought it was at the guild, who s to say she won t do it again."
The silence that followed only made things worse as he smiled to himself as if had had just swayed them to kill a orphaned child. It was broken by a knock at the door, everyone gazed other.
"Can I come in." asked Mona, peeling for forgiveness.
"Come in." called Harris.
Stepping in Necro returned to his seat at the head of the table by the door.
"I first want to say I m sorry?" she said. "When I heard you had the book, I knew that I could take it and kill you all."
She was stopped as she fell to the floor the air being pulled form her body, she tried to gasp for more but found her self unable to.
"You say that yet, my power is the greater." Necro sniggered ready to kill her.
"Let her go." Blair demanded.
Rolling his eyes his grip over her air was gone and she began to take deep heaving breaths, he was never going to kill her but it made it look as it he wanted her dead. Which he did, but he was not bale to do it himself.
"As I was saying." she said trying to catch her breath as she stood back up. "I knew that I could, but I didn t. I haven t even raised back the others."
"Speaking off." said Necro "Lady, we should work on killing them later in case they are brought back."
"Dully noted, go on Mona." said Lady.
"What I was brought back was all alone."
'Waking up in the battled filed unsure on how long it had been, I was unable to find a grave close by and open a portal to the Dragon hunters area. With everything gone, I knew brining them back was no use, so I went to one place that had fallen to the way side in the plan. They had been created as a counter measure to insure no other force could oppose us when we made are rise to power. What had started out as a few lackeys tasked with hunting dragons had evolved in to a group of people hell bent on collecting magic and dulling dragons to the death. I had gone there to seek refuge but only found that after years of being unsupervised with an unclear goal they had stared form a new master plan. In the beginning they where paid off, but they had made their own army and own power house of magic surplus. Now just fighting for no other reason then to gain their power and to join are ranks to rule by are side.
But when you showed up, I knew it was bad I almost died when Chris got his eye cut, it wasn t until after you came back and flooded it all that I escaped. Now I was lost I had no where to go, so I decided to do what all Necromancers did before they went to the underworld, I looked for a crown to serve. I wondered around looking for a kingdom and found this place, I asked to be taken to the ruler….
"And that s how began." she finished.
Her long winded story had made the others trusting of her but Necro and Kyle where still left unsure.
"I don t want to try start what San-saw wanted, I want to repent for what I did, whipping out the guild, and killing all those witches and wizards." she sobbed falling back to her knees "I want redemption."
Necro stood up and looked down at her feeling as he could no decided her fate the man who ounce had the power of a god back in such dominion of power, he knew what to do with her, and his decision was finale.
It was unclear why Necro took her hand and why he asked the others to join him, but was was more unclear was when he took them to the vault and removed the book, holding out open book in his hands in the hall way.
"This book." he started "Needs a keeper someone to safe guard it s magic."
She looked at her son unsure on what he meant.
"Your powers where gifted to you so your can t gain any more, and since you can live forever, your will be it s guarding forever."
The others where unsure, but seeing as she had done nothing wrong so far they could not object.
"If your truly want to make up for all that you have done to magic, then you can do this for the very magic you swore to control."
"Why won t she just take the book?" asked Kyle still unsure on what Necro was trying to do.
He just smiled as he grabbed his mothers hand and slapped it on the book, her hand landed with an open palm down her hand spread over it pages. Steam began to rise form the page as Mona felt the burning sting of her hand being bound to the pages of the book a golden light emanating form under her hand. After she had suffered enough Necro let go of her hand as she pulled it away leaving hand imprint on the page, as the hand print began to fad away Kyle shoved his hand on to the book, being dead the heat did nothing to him, the light and steam came off, he kept his hand there for roughly the same time.
"NO!" Necro shouted, he was eye rate and up in arms over what his father had just done.
Unknowing of what he had just done he was sure as hell not going to let Mona do it alone, removing his hand the print soon faded away like Mona s did.
"What have you just done?" Mona asked.
Necro looked at them both "You have just sighed a contract with the book, your are both now bounded to it, and it you."
The two looked at each other, something that had not done in over twenty three years.
"You can still die, even though you are linked to the book, but now only you two may sue it." he continued "If anyone but you two uses the book, you will suffer a fat worse then death, then death."
"I guess that means you will have to keep me alive?" said Kyle.
Mona was unsure by what he meant.
"I ll explain later." he said "Lady you will have to kill me."
She nodded and everyone started to depart as Necro closed the book but Mona remained behind with him.
"Your wrong." she told him looking down at her son.
"What do you mean?" he asked looking back.
All the worst scenarios where running though his head, was this what she wanted she would now learn all magic and bring back everyone.
"San-saw never gifted me my powers." she said.
"No, he did that to everyone to make sure they would only have his classes."
"Not everyone."
He just looked at her confused, out of all that thoughts he had, this was not one of them.
"My powers where natural, I went to guild to train them." she confused.
"Firstly, magic is not something your born with, anyone can learn it, you ve just had a strong connection." he paused as the second thought came over him all at ounce. "Meaning you can use the book to learn all the types of magic."
"But I wont, I m going to promise that I will never let the book be used by anyone either then me or your father." she said and she gave him a kiss goodbye and left after the others to be caught up.
As he watched them depart he knew she was going to serve the book, and as she left he began to think the very thing he had lost in his life had regained, a family. His, grandmother, mother and father, where all here with Nova as a surrogate daughter and Lady, Blair and Harris as friends, he had a new family the one thing he had always wanted since he was a child. Smiling he closed the book as the book was closed he saw that previously blank cover now had an inscription. The book now read 'The Necromancy s Legacy in the same leather as the cover it was poking out as it it had been pushed out form the other side. Running his hand over the book he knew that this was his grandfathers legacy, as it was what he always wanted all of magic in one place. Putting the book to rest back in the room he closed the doors and left it in the safety knowing when Nova s returned she would reapply the seal and that guards will do their duty and his mother and father will be there to keep it safe for years to come.
They where in Lady s bedroom Mona had been caught up on Kyle s death, Mona was on the bed waiting wile Kyle stood ready to die.
"On three." he said.
"One." said Lady as she killed him.
His body dropped dead on the floor.
"Two." said Mona as she brought him back.
"I said on three."Kyle replied.
"You two should go." said Lady "There s been a lot you need to be caught up on."
Standing up she had other idea s "Maybe, but I think I should keep an eye on the book."
"You don t have to do it for ever?"
"I now but it will help, as a start."
The two left as Necro came in.
"Ready to kill all the Necromancers?" asked Lady.
"Yes, but I think we can do this in one go." said Necro.
Lady closed her eyes as she focused in on those who had been sent there and not killed and all those who had Necromancy, all though her power was strong doing them all was to much. Groups of them came flooding in and as soon as they did they died the air pulled form their body in an instant, soon the room was packed with their bodies they they where forced to stop.
"We ll have to do the rest later." said Lady.
"Oh I don t think so." he grinned.
Soon lave spewed out of bodies as it melted them away, Necro kept it check as the body count dropped.
just bring them back in to the lava." he smiled as he made it grow in to large ball.
Lady just shrugged and carried on.
Later when Nova came back was shocked to see the newcomer, all though she was told about what happened, she felt like it was handled well, as things moved on Mona chose to punish her self and remind with the book with out anything but the items in the locked room. Wile the others had their time together she did more the enough to make up for it, being let out to be with her son and Kyle. But she spent most of her time protecting The Necromancers Legacy, until the day she felt she had served her time and could leave but that time may never come in the others life time s.
Necro sat atop the castle looking out at the setting sun, when Nova came up and landed on the roof as her dragon self before becoming her human self cuddle up with him.
"What are you doing?" she asked.
"I was just thinking about how everything we have done has led us here." he said.
"My mother told gave me some advice about that."
"What is it."
"Don t think about what was but think about what can be."
"Wise words."
"I didn t understand."
Necro smiled, as he held her head and stroked her hair, thinking about those words.
