Chapter 27 The Hunt For Immorality

The next day after the defeat of the Dragon Hunters and Blair and Lady learning the truth of Necro s past, the kingdom seemed fine, Nova was establishing trade routes and putting in more farms around the out side of the city walls. More the harsh ground was transformed to hold more plant life and easier travel to and form the Dragon lands made it easy for more magical creatures to settle in the kingdom. Deep in the bowels of the castle Necro was brewing potions, Lady was with the queen as they spoke to neighbouring kingdoms, Harris was on guard duty, Blair was out on a mission, Kyle was tending to the younger acolytes of the city leaving Bella to teach those who came to learn magic.
In her class she stood at the back going over a legacy of her all magic talents teaching control.
"So you must learn to keep your emotions in check when using magic, as they can enhance or disrupt anything you attempt to do." she said "That is all I have for you toady, make sure to practice in the court yard, with your instructors." she called as they began to leave.
As the silence settled in, she heard someone enter.
"Oh Blair, I didn t know you where back." she said looking to the arch way to see her enter.
"Are your classes going well?" she asked.
"Yes, but I don t need to teach them anything, only the basics of control, we have enough people here to teach them what they want and they can train and learn form there."
"Necro said that the guild would one day be obsolete."
"Yes, after he told us about what San-saw had done, it s no surprise that the guild won t be needed." Bella began to slump.
"Are you okay?" asked Blair.
"No, no, I m fine." she said "It s, I ve just spent so long to bring magic back, that I ve got little other prospects, my whole life was devoted to magic."
"I guess you can get a hobby then, right." she teased.
"No, I m going to move on." smiled Bella.
"Move to where?"
"No, I mean pass on to the other side."
"Why?"
"Blair, you must understand, I ve have a god life, a long one, longer then I should have. Living forever is not something I want to do, and when the guild is no longer needed, I can dye happy knowing magic has became open to anyone."
"Well, it s not over yet." Blair smiled "After I put the sign up posts, I went back and we got quite a lot more people who will be coming to learn magic."
"That s fantastic."
"And when we set up the gateway for easy travel they will of course arrive in the boat loads, but I also found a few more egger students."
"Who?"
Leading her back out she was shocked to see so many people in the hall, enough to fit an entire class.
"We have Necromancers in there as well, like Lady their magic was gifted to them by the dragon."
"Then we need to get Necro, he s the only one who will be able to teach them."
"I ll get them settled in wile you find Necro." said Blair.
Bella hurried away and Blair took them in to the class room.
Necro was still in his room when Lady came in.
"We ve officially on the map, the Dragon Lands Kingdom had made it s first allies." she beamed.
Necro was not as enthralled.
"What s wrong?" she asked.
"Nothing." he said "I m just trying to come to terms with who I am."
"Is this because of what me and Blair did."
"In part, yes."
"Look, I m sorry."
"No. Listen I can t stand the truth so created a lie, but it was always their so I made more." he said "Some people would rather live a happy lie then unhappy truth."
Lady lingered in the door way, unsure o what to say.
"I m sorry, but you can t understand my reasons."
"I know." she said.
As the two where about to depart Bella came in.
"Come with me, please?" she asked.
"Why?" he asked turning around.
"We ve got some new Necromancers, and it s your duty to teach them."
"Let lady do it, she s more then ready."
"Me, you ve only taught my the basics."
"That s all you need the more you train the better you get, the more you fail the more you try."
"It s your duty." said Bella. "You chose to give them their power, so you must teach them."
Necro paused, and she left knowing he would follow.
"Will you teach them how to live forever?" Lady asked.
"What makes you think I ll teach them at all."
"Because your not your grandfather."
Necro looked at the mirror and all he saw was San-saw, he turned and left.
"Were are you going?" asked Lady chasing after him.
"I m going to teach, just like he did." he grunted.
"Are you going to teach them how to live for ever?" she asked.
"Why?"
"You haven t taught me that yet."
"Are lessons are more personal, I m going over them with you, the power to live forever, is hard to master."
"Did you master it."
"Yes, but I never got a chance to use it."
"Why?"
"I m only twenty three, why would I need to use it now, most do it when they reach thirty or death forbid forty."
"So will you teach them."
"No, that power, it s to great for anyone to hold."
"Even me."
"Yes, even you."
Lady fell behind as she thought about living forever, and caught back up with him.
The two arrived at the class room and he made his way to the top, the students where all predominantly human form all ages, with some old as sixty and some young as nine. As he took his place at the head of the class he swung out his arms and let out a show of mist and water vapour to catch their attention. As their gaze caught on he dropped his hands and they all turned to face him.
"Hello, I m your new teacher, I will tell you how to use your powers. I will not tell you how to the control them, I will not tell you how they can be used to gain power or wealth, only how they can be used and how you can keep them in check, so they won t go off and kill a bunch of people." he said. "Firstly you can not control your powers you must except them as part of who you are, and see it can help people, some can come to you to say a last goodbye to a love one, or ask for a few extra days before they die to be with the ones they love, this power is not all about death but about making it easier for those who have to deal with it."
Lady smiled as hung in the arch way listing in, she left not needing to hear this again, but as she left she wanted to learn the power of immortality and Necro was not the only Necromancer, there was his father.
Out in the courtyard Kyle sat in a stool with all the children that had been parts of coven s or just part of families who came to settle down here. In his hand was the book, the image was not of the dragon from Nova s book but of the Nova her self with the image of her standing on a rock. The self drawn image looked good, but the colouring was a bit off, it s pages open in his hand as he put on voices he lent in and used all his skills to put on a good show for the kids. With out magic he was still able to bring the world to life and the children where only to happy learn the history of the queen and hear a god story at the same time.
"Then as she took, flight." he said, he stopped and looked back as Lady approached.
"Do you want to join us?" he asked. "We just got to bit where you leave after dealing with Nova s mother."
"No, I came her to ask you about eternal life."
Kyle knew this was going to a long talk. "I m sorry but we ll have to end it their." he told the kids.
The sighs and annoyance emulating off of them as they got up and left.
"Why do you want to learn that, I ve made up for what I have done, I can die when ever you do, I ve made my peace."
"No, Nova wants me and Necro to serve with her for years, and I can t do that with out that power."
"Why doesn t Necro just teach you."
"He said no."
"Why."
"He says no one should have that power."
"He s not wrong."
"Will you teach me or not."
"Fine, you need to start by focusing your power of your current state, then you will need to focus on keeping it that way, your biological clock will be frozen. It s similar to how you stop someone form dying but long term."
"How do I know I ve done it."
"What if you burrowed Nova s glasses then can see magic, you should see a bright glow around you body."
"Okay then, do you want to join me?" she asked.
"Might as well, just in case."
The two had arrived at Nova s room her glasses when on her night stand, as Lady picked them up she put them on and concentrated on keeping her self the same age then looked at her arms and body, but no magic glow, but the blue tint only showed what was their a few moments in the future of fortune.
"It didn t work." she hissed.
"Try again," suggested Kyle "This time I ll sue the glasses."
Handing them over he peered though the lenses and saw his own purple oar of magic that kept him alive.
"That s strange, the white hue isn t their." he said,
"Wait white, I thought Necromancy was purple."
"That s true, but that power to stop death has always been white?"
"Wait, who taught you that power."
"My father, he taught it to us all and left in some text books for the guild."
"He also learnt other power."
"Yes, yes he did."
"How do you keep someone alive to stop them from dying with out stopping their clock."
"Oh that s easy, you use Necromancy to reanimate them as soon as what ever kills them kicks in. So they never notice and when it s time remove it and they drop dead."
"So it s two diffrent powers."
"I never thought about it like that, but yes."
"So what was this lost power."
"What do you mean."
"All over magic he taught was know, your open portals at graves that s travel magic, you bound a soul to you, that s friendship magic, all other magic s still in use but not immortality."
"So."
"So, there is a lost a time magic or sorts."
"What can we do."
"Tell Necro."
The man in question was standing out on the balcony above the throne room, it looked over the court yard, he was looking down as his new students practised and learnt from each other and the other magic users as well. Lady came up next to him and looked down as well.
"Look at them, they all already starting to learn you don t need to learn magic, from a guild or coven but from someone willing to teach."
"What will you do then when the guild is gone."
"It will never be gone, every so often someone will come to learn, but when Bella leaves and I m left to pass on the magic, I ll do so in my years and then when my time comes I ll pass it on to someone else, a successor who will serve after me."
"What if you didn t have to."
"What if I kept you alive to do so."
"No one should live for ever."
"Okay just until Nova, doesn t need us."
"When she grows up, and becomes more wise to the fact she doesn t need us, we will no longer be needed to guide her."
"What do you mean."
"She s young, nieve, and doesn t understand how things work, when she grows up in a few years she will no longer need us but keep us around, as advisers until the day she has grown up so much that we will not be needed."
"Is that why you won t teach me."
"No, that s why I never planned on using it on myself."
"It doesn t matter anyway, I can t do it."
"What do you mean?" he asked.
"I asked Kyle for help."
"Of course my father, the only other thing that remains of my grandfather s handy work."
"Look, I was not able to do it as the power is not of Necromancy, It s a diffrent magic all together." she said "A lost magic."
"Your wrong, no magic is truly lost."
"What do you mean, only you and your father now of it, and therefore since your not going to teach it, it s lots."
"That s not what I meant."
"Sorry."
"The Dragon who gifted you your powers, knows and has the powers of all magic."
"So he will have the answer."
"Yes."
"How do we get their?" asked Lady.
"One of two ways." he said.
"No way." said Blair.
She was in her room, it was smaller then the others and decorated in light blue curtains and decorations, with more water coloured and themed items to decorate the place.
"Why not?" begged Lady.
"All we are asking is you you to send us their." said Necro. "If you refuse we can go are selves."
"Do I have a choice?" she grunted.
"No." said Lady.
"You always have a choice, the problem is thinking you don t when your forced to choose."
"Fine." She caved.
The portal opened this time above the clouds, Lady stepped thought.
"When ever you fell like you have no choice, it s only because you now that one is the better option and that makes it fell like anything else isn t right." said Necro as he passed though.
The words hung on Blair as the portal closed.
On the other side, lady was tying to hold her ground as Necro stepped forward to see the Dragon appear again his skeleton arm still present.
"What brings you back?" boomed the Dragon.
"We wish to now of a magic lost to us, a magic that allowed the user to gift life to others and them selves."
The Dragon was flustered by the question.
"This magic you speak off was stripped form the world by one man." the Dragon said as storm began to brew around them.
"What happened?" Necro asked, as the storm worsened.
Lady had to cover her face and Necro had to do the same as it continued.
"What s going on?" Lady called.
"I don t now." said Necro as he looked down at her.
As he looked back the dragon was gone, then the storm blew him and Lady off the mountain and the fell down, though the clouds towards the ground below.
