Chapter 19 Power Struggle
In the meeting room Bella was left alone with Nova, both where recovering form Lady and Necro s sudden shift away from each other.
"Nova, the work is going well, maybe we should try and rest." said Bella.
"No, I need to make a list of laws and rules, if the Dragon Lands Kingdom is to continue it needs to have rules and leadership."
"Of course, the library should have all we need." said Bella.
As the two got up, Nova knew it they had to argue to resolve their problems, but wanted them to still be themselves.
In the hall the two had just discovered the reason for their drift apart.
"Well, what should we do?" wondered Lady, unsure on how to move forward
"We ll both take are own path." said Necro.
"What do you mean?" wondered Lady.
"I m going to hunt for my magic and you can help Nova."
"I meant about us."
"What choice do we have, we can either try to make it work, or let it be."
"But nothing seems to fit like when we kissed"
"That because relationships take time." he argued.
"Your doing it again." she pouted.
"The only other option is that we can split up." he finished "The way where going, it seems like that s the better option at this point."
"Don t say that."
"Why, Nova has to accept it, you should to." he shouted
Lady became quite, more of his anger was showing a side to him she had not seen like this before.
"We can still work together but there is little hope for us to anything more then allies." as he finished he walked away.
Leaving Lady to look on, she felt no sadness no anger, nothing, she felt nothing…
Necro soon found himself wondering the court yard as the he watched the city being built, magic going all around him. He looked at his own hands knowing he could join in, he had little else to do now his necromancy powers gone. As he was about to join them someone grabbed his arm, spinning around to find it was the elderly women he had met when he was retuning home with Lady and saw Nova.
"I can help you." she offered.
"With what?" he asked pulling his arm free.
"Your magic."
"What of it?" he asked.
"It s gone."
He became more angry over this. "How did you now."he growled as he generated a sharp ice spike that placed it self at her throat.
"I can read your magic."
"What s that?" he asked pulling it away just enough to make it easier for her to talk.
"I have an glass eye made of Eye stones." she smiled.
"And."
"It has gifted me the sight to see the magic of everyone and yours is missing."
"So, how can you help?" he asked as the ice evaporated.
"There is an accent magic known as transfer magic." she said. "It s where one magic users takes part of their own magic and gifts it to someone else."
"How does that work."
"The gift giver will loose some of their power over the magic they gifted and the gifted will be able to reach their own full potential with the gifted magi." she explained. "There are down falls to this, as if someone is gifted magic, they can only learn that one type and no other unless they knew it or had it before hand."
"Go on."
"It also gifts the person a part of them, so they can sometimes act out of character."
"Is that it."
"Yes." she said.
"So that means."
"Yes."
Necro with out an hesitation raced back in side.
Everyone had been gathered at the meeting room around the table for the news.
"What is all this about?" asked Harris we ve got a growing city to attend to.
"Yes, and we ve been busy coordinating the rescue operation." added Blair "With the new comers helping by telling us about different safe places to they would hide, we ve been able to find so many of those who needed are help."
"And I ve been trying to right up the new laws." protested Nova.
"It s an important work." protested Bella.
"Let him speak." said Lady.
The two where no longer together but they still knew each other well.
"Thank you." said Necro "Now as your know I ve lost my power, and it can be of great use to us moving forward."
"How, we haven't needed it since the battle." said Harris "No offence."
"I could raise anyone to ask for aid or help, even to teach." he said "I can ensure that I live long enough to keep everyone safe and form dying, I could do so much more." he steered to back down as he opened his own wound.
"Are you okay?" asked Nova.
"Yes, I learnt of a new old magic known as transfer magic."
"I heard about that." said Blair. "It was part of my advanced studiers to reach brown hair in my coven."
"That s good to know, do you know how it works?"
"Off handedly yes."
"Good, then all we need is a Necromancer."
"I don t want to be a wet blanket." said Harris "But didn t we, kill them all, and with out your powers to bring one back it seems we hit a dead end."
"Not really." said Bella "Not everyone who had magic came to guild, there may be a few out there, and not everyone graduated even, a few flunked and dropped out as well."
"So we have to hunt for them." said Necro.
"Where would they be?" asked Lady.
"I don t care I m going to go and look them."
"I m joining you." said Nova.
"No, you have to stay here, I ll go lone." he instated.
"How long will you be?" asked Bella.
"As log as it takes."
"Good luck." said Harris.
"I hope you find someone." said Blair.
"just come home." said Nova "And that s the queens decree."
"Your just like your father." said Bella.
Necro got up and looked at Lady.
"Good luck." she said.
As he left the others got up to leaving go back to their duties.
As Necro came in to the court yard he took flight and headed in to the sky on his search for a necromancer. In the Library Lady was helping Nova poor over the books, Bell was working on the new guild, and Harris and Blair where about to go of in the search for more people to help.
Necro was high in the snowy mountain tops in a village trying to shield himself from blizzard. He came to the tavern one of the few buildings to be open and stepped in, using fire to melt the snow covering him he then set about heating the lodge it self.
"What are you doing here?" one of the locals asked.
"I m on the hunt for a Necromancer." he replied "I ve been searching all over and it s been a week already."
"Why do you want one?" asked another patron.
"I want to regain my own power and I need a Necromancer to do it."
"Sorry." said a third "The only magic we have up here is used to keep trade open."
"That s fine, this was my last stop anyway." he said as he turned around.
"Before you go." came the third again "Thank you for the heat."
"Your welcome."
As he opened the door and went in to the snow he transformed back in to his dragon self and took to the sky, after all the time spent flying around to every know location that would be isolated or well hidden and even a few that where riddled with death. All the searches came up empty there where no Necromancers left that where willing to be found or even alive now. As he flew over head he came towards a dark stone mountain and on the other side was sprawling city with tress and farms.
"This looks a place where a necromancer might hide." he thought.
As the city crew closer and more clear he began to land only to realise where he had touched down, he was in the court yard and turned back to his human self he looked out at the now lager castle he had ounce held reshaped with Nova. It s Dragon stature still spread out to crawl over the build, a few armed guards in Dragon quartz armour with blades forged with the very stone where all around him.
"Take me to your leader." he requested.
The guards where about to take him hostage when Nova appeared in her human form glasses on her face, she seemed to have grown.
"Your highness." they said bowing in her presence. "This man just flew in."
"That s okay." she said "He s a friend." she said tacking of her glasses.
The guards nodded stood up and went back to their posts.
"I missed you." said Nova as she reached out to hug him.
"I missed you too." he smiled happy to be back. "Hay, what s with the glass?" he asked.
"My father helped me make them when I first discovered I was a dragon born, I found them helpful to see magic."
"Why?"
"I ll show you." she said as she led him away.
As they walked the halls they passed though the new guild where a few classes where going on.
"Miss Bella has been keeping an eye out for anyone who might be a necromancer, and with my glasses I can see people s magic, as it helps keep things in check.
"This is amazing, where s Blair and Harris,"
"Blair is my official on site Witch, she s tasked with over seeing all magic in the castle, and Harris is the new captain of the guard."
"How many people did you find?"
"Thousands and it s still going on, but know where helping them make a larger community allowing them to stay and move on when their ready."
"You ve done this all in a week."
"We did most of what we accomplished before in a day or two."
"Wow."
As they carried on they went back though the halls as they moved in to more of the castle.
"You seem to be fitting in as a queen."
"I found it helps to be regal."
"It seems it, hay have you grown?"
"Yep, I m now six."
"Wait how long was I gone."
"A week."
"So how are you…"
"I turned six last week."
"Oh, I forget that s how time worked for a second."
"And hers your room, just as you left it." she smiled.
He pushed open to doors to see everything was just the same, even though he had yet to use it.
"I ll inform the others you arrived." she said wile leaving.
Necro looked around happy to be home, pushing his quest to the back of his mind.
"Necro." came a voice.
Turning around Lady came in form Nova s room.
"What are you doing in there?"he asked.
"Nova said I can have it since we broke up." she said crossing over to see him "It s so good to see you." she grinned wile hugging him.
"It s nice to be back." he said as she let him go.
"Did you find one."
"Hu, oh yeah, no. Not yet."
"Do you think you ever will."
"I m stating to give up hope of that, now I ve returned home."
The two soon found them selves unsure on what to say or do, the two just idling.
"I should go."said Necro.
"Wait why?" she asked reaching out and grabbing his hand.
He looked back and she pulled it away apologising for the awkward moment.
"I ve still got ground to cover." he said as he tried to leave.
"What about the others?" asked Lady. "Is your quest more important to you then they are."
"No, look. I ve only been gone a week, and I ve got little to no places left to look, it won t take me long."
She said nothing as he left.
But as he tried to leave he only felt the dread of having to search the entire world and dying long before even getting anywhere, leaving everything he had and wasting a life he could have had. With his brain flashing back an fourth one memory stuck out, the day he found the book at the guild, when he touched it he saw a vision of his death, but when he Nova and Lady had joined together Nova was able to learn how to use conjure magic. With this in mind could he use the book to learn Necromancy, with the thought in his mind he raced off down the halls to find the book.
He arrived at the wooden doors still only closed no lock and no key, as he pushed it open he saw how the room had been fitted to give each item it s own perch and as took the book he saw no vision no death nothing. He sat on the floor and began to poor over it s pages he saw all kinds of magic some he had never ever heard off, others taught at the guild, but as he kept going he found no remnant of necromancy.
"What are you doing in here." came a voice.
Necro looked up to see the sweet sound of his grand mothers voice, Bella looked down at him as she stood looking down at a book.
"I was trying to find Necromancy in here, hoping I could get my powers form here." he sighed as he flipped the pages a new magic revelled it s self.
"That s not how the book works, and further more theirs no necromancy in the book."
"Why, this book is meant to have all magic."
"It does, but I wrote it." she explained as she bent down to sit beside him. "I wanted to keep a record of all magic, but with Necromancy, no one else could learn it, only those who where born with it. So I never thought to record it, and anyway the book gifts you the knowledge to use the magic."
"Shut up." said Necro as he glanced at the book.
"What."
"just shut up and look."
"What is that?" he asked.
"It s, it s, hidden magic, it allows you to discover what you seek."
"That was a dangerous magic, often used to find a fortune." Remembered Bella.
"No don t see what this means?"
"Wait."
"That s right, I can use this to find a Necromancer."
Nova had gathered Lady Harris and Blair in the meting room, they where all waiting on Necro.
"Did he get his power?" asked Blair.
"No." said Nova "Other wise he wouldn't have flown in."
"So where is he?" asked Harris.
Lady chose not to speak of their encounter. Bella soon arrived and sat down.
"Have you see Necro?" Nova asked.
"He ll be in shorty." Bell replied.
Not to long after a short wait he did arrived and placed the door down on the table and began to speak.
"As you know, I ve been hunting for a Necromancer to regain my power." he started "And after a weak, I have found nothing in my search."
He commanded the room and no one spoke his pause with silence only made them want to hear the next half of what he was going to say.
"But there is another way, this book." he said as he picked it up "Holds the key to my powers. In it is magic that will allow me to track down a necromancer and then get back my power."
Everyone expected him to carry on but it was over an Bella spoke up.
"But he can t do it alone." she said.
"What do you need?" asked Nova.
"I only need someone to do the transfer." smiled Necro.
"I ve been doing a lot of that." said Blair "Some people want to gift their magic, or have it take away."
"So why isn t your hair different?" wondered Necro.
"I never liked the idea of dying my hair brown, anyway my coven is gone and I have a new one here in the form of a family just the same."
"So you can do it then?" he asked.
"Yes, I ve also able to use a lot more magic as well."
"I can t let you go alone." Insisted Harris.
"Your welcome to join us." said Necro.
"No." said Nova.
"What." blurted Harris.
"I can t let two of my best people leave, Harris as your queen I order you not to go with them." Demanded Nova.
Harris stubbornly agreed.
"When will you leave?" asked Lady.
"As soon as Blair is ready, I ll use the magic."
"Well I m ready now." said Blair.
"Okay then." Necro smiled.
He waved his hand up and an image appeared showing him where to go, everyone looked on in ore at where the last Necromancer was hiding.
