Chapter 59 Our New Life
As I stretch every muscle of my perfect physique, I can feel a fresh breeze blowing over my body, causing little tingles of pleasure to play over my skin. It is early morning, but the sun is already lying hot on my skin. I slowly open my eyes and turn to my side, only to find the space next to me is empty; panic immediately sets in, for she should be next to me, and she is not.
Then I hear a scuffle next to the other side of me. As I turn my head to see, I am met by the towering splendor that is my princess...
"Morning, baby."
And this is how I start each morning of my new life...
Three days ago, we decided to give up our lives as we knew it and to go on the run. For us, it was an easy decision to make. Our love for each other is what drove us the most. So we found ourselves in a hotel room in the middle of nowhere and had no idea where we were heading to.
Our lives and our future were in a Mafia Boss' hands. At times it was nerve-wracking, and at others, we seemed to feel at ease. But I had faith that I was ahead of Vic, and I knew that every minute while she was in my hands, that she was safe. Well, it is not like Vic was after her head. Ya, I am the one that he wants fucking dead.
But Mason had my back, and he promised me that he would get us to a destination, so I put my faith in him.
We spend a few days in that hotel room to only give it up for another small room in another no-name town. Even though it burned me to take a map and figure out where we were heading, I never did. If you make a promise to someone on faith alone, then it is still a promise to keep. And that is what we did for the first few days; we slowly made our way to our destination. In and out of one hotel to the after.
At this point, Trinity was exhausted; moving around that much just did not work for her anymore. I was worried that we might soon regret our decision if we were stuck in a hotel room and something had to happen. So Mason speeded up the process.
And this is where we find ourselves. Yes, you can say we have our honeymoon now, even extended if you would. Waking up with a fresh ocean breeze on your face and the hushing sound of the waves makes every minute of this worth it.
So this is our peace and quiet and safe place away from what would have been our fate.
Scary times but very excited.
There is this little joke amongst us that we are Bonnie and Clyde. But that is yet to be seen.
But wait, the most important thing...Who are we?
...Karter Brown...
...Emily Brown...
Ya, we are married. Well, not really, but it is what those papers say.
Not really gotten used to those yet. Mason reckoned not too familiar and not too flashy. So that is what he came up with. Needless to say, we call each other baby almost all the time. It is pretty hard to put a name to a face that does not fit there.
And that brings us to the reason why we are here, and in...
...One...
...Two...
...Three...
...The doorbell rings...
There are only two people that know where we are, and they will be here today, and as my Emily sits there and scrunch on pickles, I go to open the door. Things are about to get emotional...
And as I open, he nearly leaps into my arms...I have never seen Mason seen so happy to see a man in his life.
"Fuck Col...Karter!"
Then it starts... First a sniffle... Then mumble... He hitches... Two breaths too fast... And finally... The river bursts its banks...
"Man, I am damn near crying...okay, I am...man, I have missed you."
Mason hugs me so damn hard while he sobs like a little boy; we have not seen each other since the day I told him about our plan to disappear. I have never heard a man cry so loud...in fact, that is me...And as I speak, my voice is trembling...
"I never thought I would be so happy to see your ugly face."
I squeeze Mason even a fraction harder, not wanting to let go, but then Jax comes in and locks the door. And as I let go of Mason, I pull Jax in a big old man hug...Well, he is not going to cry, but I can gather by the big smile on his face that he is just as happy to see me.
"It is good to see you; you are looking well, my friend. All the sun and surf is paying off."
"I don't know so much about the surf. I tried it once and saw my ass falling way too many times."
"I would have paid to see that. But more importantly, where are the misses?"
Then Trinity steps into the lounge, and man, are they both even happier to see her. Ofcourse, Mason goes and cries more while Jax sheds a wink of a tear. You don't know how important the people in your life are when you cannot have them in your new life even. There are so many times that you find yourself picking up the phone, and then you realize that you can't. Being on the run is not fun; it is goddam scary and lonely.
Which brings us to the city... Do I want to go back? I don't know. Can I go back? Maybe. And that is why Jax and Mason are here.
So after we all have had our hellos and all the tears to go with that, I see that my princess is settled for her afternoon nap. Then we boys head onto the deck to discuss the business at hand.
And Jax is the first to start with an update. But the burning question is...
"Is he still looking for me?"
"They still try to put surveillance on me, but they soon get kicked off."
Then Mason adds, "They come looking for excuses to get inside at least twice a week."
And that is what I fail to remember sometimes, is that my friends are also suffering, maybe even worse than us. So what are we doing about this...
Can we really sit and wait until this passes? Well, Jax is here with the answers; that is at least what I hope. So as he speaks, I am not sure how to read the expression on his face...
"Do you want to hear the good news first or the bad?"
