The Day Alaric Returned
"Thank you for everything Tamera,” Eva said giving her publisher a small smile. She was on her last chapter of Something Wicked and everything was going smoothly for once.
"Not a problem! This story already has so much buzz around it, people are pre-ordering.” Eva tried her best to be happy, but she honestly felt dead inside. She felt a warmth from her stomach.
*Hey, I’m okay. I promise*
She knew she had to keep calm, after Lucifer's warning, but she could no longer feel Alaric around her and that was eating away at her soul. "Well, if it’s alright with you, I need to get going, I’m exhausted, this baby is kicking my ass.”
Tamera laughed as she watched her friend who was trying her best to keep it together, exit her office.
Eva walked the square looking around, the place had so many memories, some good and some bad. Like the one where Alaric threatened to smite Mark because Eva accidentally bumped into him, or the one where the ambulance had to be called because she collapsed the day that he left. She wouldn’t miss it, it hurt too much. Deciding to spend a few months with her parents, at least until the baby was born. Since Lucifer was technically everywhere, it wasn’t like she had to stay in one place, she could be close to family, and still, make sure her child was properly cared for.
Entering her home, she sat on the couch, and before she knew it, she’d fallen asleep. Eva hadn’t even realized she was that exhausted until she woke up.
"You’re kicking my ass little one.”
She jested before going to take a shower to get ready for bed. Eva let the warm water permeate her soul, before she realized it, she found herself crying.
*I thought I didn’t have any more tears.*
She’d cried so many, she no longer thought it was possible, and yet here she was, crying for Alaric again. Eva sighed.
"It shouldn’t hurt this bad.”
Turning off the water, she exited the shower and wrapped a towel around her body. Shuffling to her room, her body stilled. Alaric’s book sat on her dresser, a pen on top.
*I-I didn’t put that there.*
She thought as a chill went up her spine. She’d shoved his book as far as it could go into her library in her home office. Her hands shook, she could feel the book calling to her. Sitting on the bed, she grabbed it and flipped to a fresh page.
"Please…don’t make me write.” Her tears fell onto the book. Putting pen to page, she saw the words slowly appear.
*Alaric swore that his vow to protect Eva was because he didn’t want to die, but what he didn’t know was she’d been made for him. So entwined with his heart, they found each other through the years. The human who pulled the angel from darkness, even at the risk of tainting herself. His redemption was restored, Alaric was sent back to Earth, one wing pure, one wing blackened representing his heart. As he stood in the room that Eva poured out her inner most thoughts, he waited until she joined him, so that he may change her, to keep her forever.*
Eva covered her mouth and reread the words. Hearing the click of the light in her office, she stood and looked out the door of her bedroom. Her legs were like jelly.
"Please…”
She didn’t know what she would find, as she turned the corner to enter the room her entire body froze.
“My peculiar Little Human.”
Alaric smiled at her. His hazel eyes matching the storm she had in hers. He saw her entire body shaking and he snapped his fingers. Eva saw the light dim, and he created a spotlight at the corner of the room with a small quartet of the instrument. She closed her eyes as they played, the sweet melodious song they did, the night he’d originally asked her to dance.
Extending his hand, he arched his brow. "Come on little human, dance with me.”
Eva shook her head in disbelief. "I-I can’t.”
He smiled, "But Eva…you might make the instruments sad.” He pulled her into his arms. Lifting them from the floor, he placed his head into her neck. "I’ve missed you so much it hurt.” He heard her sob. Alaric caressed her face, "Please don’t cry, baby.” Wiping a tear from her eye, he kissed her cheek.
"A-are you going to leave me again?” She whispered
He shook his head no, "I’m here for good, that is…if you still want me.” Eva looked at the ruby on her ring finger, causing Alaric’s eyes to travel to it. His smile widened before he took her lips. "I love you Eva.” She heard him murmur, and that made her cry more. He reached down and rubbed her stomach, "I love you as well.” As the two danced around, holding each other close, Alaric whispered once again. "Can I keep you forever?” Eva nodded her head. "How much do you trust me?”
"With my life.”
"Don’t let go of me Little Human, promise?” She shook her head once again. Baring his fangs, Alaric sank his teeth in deep into her neck. Eva groaned from the feeling, but she held on as she promised she would. Feeling her body limp slightly, Alaric released his fangs. He watched her eyes redden, as she winced as a searing pain in her back coursed through her. After a few moments, it finally absolved. She watched Alaric smile as he released her and pulled himself to the ground. "Eva…it’s not me or our son holding you up.”
"Wha-” From her peripherals she saw two wings. One black and one white, matching Alaric's’. Rejoining her, Alaric kissed her again. "I love you Alaric,” She said, and she heard him sigh in content.
He repeated his words, "My peculiar Little H-” He laughed. "Well, you’re not a human anymore, but you are little, or as you call it fun-sized.”
