I Should Care...But I Don't
*Declan and Desiree*
*Nighttime*
Desiree paced back and forth in her living room.
"This is fucking stupid…I can’t believe I thought he would come.” She folded her arms to her chest, "I mean why would he? You treated him like a freakshow…you idiot.” She tilted her head back and forth. "But I mean technically I DID HAVE every right to freak out. He ISN’T HUMAN Desiree! That’s weird, isn’t it?” She continued to pace and groaned, "Gosh…something is wrong with me… how could I find him still so fucking attractive?! Like my own personal Hentai. The one with the monsters! My favorite ones… I wonder if he would know what I’m talking about…gosh he would probably find that offensive and creepy as hell!”
"I do know and no I don’t find it offensive or creepy… I find it very attractive that you nerd out even during sex.”
Not wanting to face him, Desiree slapped her head with her hand."“Why do you always catch me saying the most embarrassing things?”
Declan laughed. "Because you tend to ramble…but I also like that a lot.”
She faced him. "Really? Because sometimes I feel like I don’t make any sense.”
"You do to me.”
A silence fell into the air. She looked at him and inhaled sharply, "I’m sorry,” she said finally and Declan shook his head.
"You have nothing to be sorry for.”
"That’s not entirely true… I’ve been wanting to see you, but I was scared.”
"I would be afraid too if I saw-”
She shook her head feverishly, "No. I was scared that you wouldn’t come, and I didn’t want to have to face that type of rejection.”
Declan’s eyes widened, "What?”
She wasn’t going to lose her nerve. She’d called him, and he came, Desiree was going to say everything that was on her mind. "I-I don’t care…no, I DO CARE! I mean that you just startled me...Ugh! I mean that was A LOT to take in.” She laughed nervously, "But-But I don’t care. In fact, I’m not fully sure why, but it makes me like you more.” Declan stood silently, processing her words. He looked around at the skulls and black and white décor that lined her home. She bit the side of her lip. "Oh no…I did it again didn’t I? I made it weird. I don’t know why I do that with you, but I do. I get nervous sometimes around you AND I NEVER GET NERVOUS. And now I made it weird-”
Declan walked to her and pulled her in his arms. Kissing her passionately, he felt her relax. "I don’t think you’re weird Desiree, I think your accepting, kind and you care about others. You have every reason to be freaked out, and yet you’re worried about if you hurt my feelings.” His eyes searched hers. "I’m just at a small loss at how to process that, that’s all, but I like that you care about me because I feel the same.”
She pulled at him, and their kiss immediately intensified. Declan’s eyes began to darken. He pulled away and she saw their coal color before he could hide them. "Show me,” she whispered. Declan sighed. "Please." He looked at her, and slowly released his large black wings. "THEY DON'T EVEN RIP YOUR SHIRT!" She blurted and he couldn't help but laugh.
His sharp horns curled over his head, his fangs dropping. He waited for her to run, but instead, she walked over to him. She tilted her head, and he realized she could see peeks of his skin. She slowly buttoned his shirt and looked at his chest. "Show me.” She repeated, and Declan closed his eyes.
His skin began to darken, and her eyes widened as she looked at Declan’s true form. His skin like the midnight sky, but it's muscular shape still remained. She watched as silver etches appeared and danced up from his torso and stopped at his neck. He couldn’t look at her, and she caressed his face, that still contained all the same features she was used to. His same chiseled jawline, the same facial structure.
"You still look like you.” She traced the pattern with her fingers.
Declan’s breathing harshened, feeling the softness of her hands. "Yeah” His voice was gruff and he slowly opened his eyes. "I can change back now.”
She shook her head no. Eva's words ringing in her mind. "I don’t mind looking at you Declan. In this form or your other. I-I like looking at you.”
Her words made his heart jump in happiness, but his fear of what he could do to her, stopped him from telling her so. "I don’t want to hurt you,” he said roughly.
"What do you mean?”
"Y-you make me want to lose control and I need control because I could kill you, Desiree. Being Death has a price. If I lose control, and I kill you-I-”
"That’s why you’ve never had sex?”
He shook his head yes. Just as she decided, he too decided, he would tell her everything. "I can’t harm you *Dezzy*…I would never forgive myself.”
Hearing his words, she pulled him to her again. She knew it was dangerous, but for some reason, she trusted him. As their kiss fevered, the black diamond in her hair began to glow. She pulled at his belt buckle and unzipped his pants.
"We can’t take it slow…but I need you to know that I trust you.” She whispered.
Declan pushed her against the wall and took her mouth again. His coal eyes shot open, as he felt her hand around his manhood. He groaned, and she kissed him as he clasped her face. Releasing him from his briefs, she stroked against him. Whispers flowed around the room, and Declan started to pull away. Desiree gripped onto his back and pulled him closer to her. She murmured against his mouth, "Don’t…”
The sensual lowness of her voice sent Declan into a frenzy. Her movements intensifying, Declan yanked her to him. She gasped, kissing him deeper, feeling his body shudder. The lights of the chandelier burning bright, the whispers growing louder, Declan looked into her eyes, as they grew darker in front of him.
"Fuck…” He groaned seeing them almost match his. Unable to hold back any longer, he placed his head into her neck and released, causing the burning bulbs to shatter, leaving only light from the ring to illuminate the room. With his breathing labored, Declan shifted back into his human form. The ring returned to normal, and he waved his hand cleaning up everything. The lights restored, he leaned down and kissed Desiree.
She laughed, "You’d probably blow the power in the entire block if we ever-”
He kissed her again silencing her. "Don’t make fun of me.”
She shook her head and playfully pursed her lips. "Who me? I would never.”
--------------------------------------------
Eva laid nude against Alaric’s chest as he stroked her hair. "This is nice,” She murmured.
His voice rasped against her, "Yes, it is.”
She heard a jiggle from the small bookshelf in her room, and she popped up and looked to Alaric. Closing her eyes and inhaling deeply, she walked to grab the book. Returning to her husband, he handed her a pen.
"You promised baby.”
She shook her head saddened, "I know.”
"Whatever it is, we will face it together.” Eva breathed in deep and began to write. Her facing lighting up, as the words came into view.
*And on the night Declan’s betrothed summoned him, Death made his way to her side. Unsure about what would part from her lips. She took one look at him and requested his true form. And upon seeing it revealed, she thought he was the most beautiful creature she’d ever seen. Trusting one another, they pushed past his deeply rooted fear, and as such, the two became the first to pass the first test of the Four Horsemen. *
Alaric read the words and grabbed onto his wife. Kissing the top of her head, and the two celebrated.
"Alright Declan! One down, three to go.”
