Chapter 28- A Letter Arrives

The next few days passed by in a routine. We looked over the maps and books in the library. We were trying to find out all the information we could about the different parts of the supernatural worlds. We wanted to know what to expect in the climate and with the creatures who lived there. We did not want to jeopardize messing up the cultural environment and instead made sure we would be respectful.

The afternoons were full of training. Lilliana was an excellent fighter. Everyone spoke about how amazing her powers were and there were even more that came the more we shifted. It seemed like every time we shifted, I learned something new that Lilliana could do. She had speed like lightning. She could make the sky dark, drawing the light from the moon and sun, and she could go invisible, which seemed the most useful of the powers.

I was more sure that the Moon Goddess wanted to make sure she was safe as a wolf. I was more than grateful for that since the journey was soon upon us.

Rose and Ian had become inseparable. They had officially mated that evening and had spent every moment all over one another. I was happy to see my best friend so happy. Ian, George and Izzy had all joined the troop for our journey. Now we were just waiting to receive a letter back from the dragons.

Just as we were sitting around the library discussing the essentials, we would have to bring with us, Alfred started coughing.

“Alfred, are you alright?” I asked. I was shocked that the book could cough. He was a book. He had been a wonderful resource for us. The book nodded by shaking up and down and then spit out a page that seemed slightly burnt on the edges.

“It is a letter.” Alfred choked out. I reached up and grabbed the letter from the air.

“It is from the dragons.” I replied to them. I quickly opened them up.

Dear Golden Wolf,
I was very intrigued by your letter. I would be very honored by your presence to our lands. There are directions on the back of this letter. This will lead you into our gate opening. Please let them know that you are expected visitors of King Dorian. I look forward to meeting you in person.
Sincerely, King Dorian

I turned the letter over in my hand and a map appeared. It seemed to be on the opposite side of where we were planning to travel originally. It would take us about two days of travel in wolf form to get there.

“This is the whole opposite side of what we thought. Do you think it is right?” Rose said. She seemed at odds with herself and all we had already read about the dragon land.

“It seems the King himself sent us the letter. I feel as though he would be correct.” Clay answered her. However, Clay also seemed anxious about the idea.

“This is a sticky situation. I want to believe the dragon king has a good heart. However, from what I have read about the land and the fact that he seems to be leading us in the opposite direction of what the maps say, makes me believe we should be ready to put up a fight.” Izzy spoke up this time.

I was trying to listen to every one’s ideas. I could see their minds churning in front of me. I knew we needed to come up with a plan.

“I agree with Izzy.” I stated. “I think we need to follow this letter. However, we also need to be prepared that something will probably happen. His letter is vague and makes it sound as if he does not know who the golden wolf is. I do not want to trust dragons. Everything I have read has led me to believe that they hate any other supernatural beings and often have old-fashioned gladiator tournaments.” Everyone shuddered at the thought of what we might be getting into.

“I can make some magical weapons for us. They will not be able to discover them if they search us.” Izzy said finally. I could tell everyone was trying their best to come up with a plan.

“That would be great Izzy.” I turned to Rose, “Rose can you look once more at what some of the weaknesses of the dragons are, that way we will know what fight we are getting into.”

“Definitely!” Rose said ecstatically. I was proud of myself for being able to finally take charge of situations, where I had always found myself in the back trying my best to blend in and carry on, this week had given me a confidence and strength I did not know I needed.

“We will leave in two days. That way we can get fully prepared, and they will not expect us to wait and not come right away.” Clay said and every one nodded.
We all left the library and headed to our areas to prep for departure. Clay and I were walking to his room.

“Clay, do you think this will work?” I was concerned about the King saying how thought my letter was intriguing.

“I am not sure. We can only go prepared for worst case.” Clay said. He looked deep in thought, and I understood why. This was certainly a life-or-death situation.
“What do you consider the worst case?” I asked, I really wanted to know his thoughts on this.

“The gladiator games that we read about have me concerned. I am worried that they do know who the golden wolf is, as in the abilities, and will try to use you in their games to prove something. They are dangerous and it worries me that they will make you fight or who they will make you fight.” His words hit me hard. It was the same concerns I had as well.

“We will stick together Clay. I promise.” I pulled him into me and gave him a hug. I let him just hold me even though we were in the middle of the hallway.
“Gracie, you are damn right. Because there is no thing on this world or the next that will draw me away from you.” Clay hugged me tighter almost willing that it would keep me safe forever.

The next two days flew by as we prepped and trained for what we might prepare for. We all had our packs and were ready to go into this journey. We said goodbye to Alpha Oliver and Sarah.

“Stay safe darlings.” Sarah hugged both of us, Rose and Ian.

“You all have gotten as prepared as you could be. I am proud of all of you and if you need anything please send word as soon as you can, and we will be there.” Oliver said with his hand on Clay’s shoulder.

Clay gave his dad a hug and with a yes sir we were outside shifting into our wolves. With our packs on and Alfred tucked safely away, we were ready for the journey of our lives
