Chapter 29- The Start of the Journey
We all shifted into our wolves. We made quite a pack. Clay and Rose had done a good job of making sure we stayed to areas where humans would not see us. We traveled for two days, it seemed like we were traveling without rest. We went through woods, across a desert and finally we had shifted to get through a city. Now we were standing at the dragon border.
The border seemed so out of place. On either side of us were giant buildings, like skyscrapers. However, people did not even seem to notice them. Around the buildings were mountains and a large forest. The buildings looked like someone just wanted to build something there and did. We approached slowly, shifting back to human form. Our wolves all needed a little break and we needed to make sure we blended in with the humans that seemed to surround us.
“We have to walk through that.” Rose said while pointing to a small crevice between the two buildings.
“Do you think we will fit?” I said to Rose, I knew I was new to this whole magic thing, but everyone was just looking at the small space.
Izzy put her hands up and I saw her close her eyes, then she said, “The entire area is covered in magic. It seems to be very much like our waterfall portal.”
I was taken back to that first day when I entered into this crazy world that led me to this exact moment.
“Okay. Well, I guess we need to go for it.” Ian shrugged as he stepped closer to the crevice.
“I think we need to hold hands. I want to make sure we don’t get separated and something seems a little off by this portal.” Izzy stated. We then all grabbed hands and Ian was the first to step through the portal.
The entire building seemed to swirl around me, making me feel a bit dizzy. We all landed with a thud like we dropped out of the sky. I heard every one’s grunt as we landed.
“That was quite a ride.” George said. My brain seemed to be spinning and coming to when I noticed a huge golden gate ahead of me.
“Uh, you think that is the gate we are supposed to go to?” Clay pointed to the giant golden gate. It looked like a gate that would be found in Beverly Hills to get to one of those expensive mansion homes.
“I would assume so.” I said and we all headed to the gate. When we reached the gate there were guards sitting at the entrance.
“What do you want?” This man was gruff. He had a shaved head and was at least 6’9”. He was a huge man and I figured his dragon was probably very large. The other guard with him was a funny looking guy. He was thin, tall and had a huge head of curly hair. It was bright red and reminded me of that guy, Carrottop.
“Hi. We came at the request of King Dorian.” I said with as much confidence as I could muster. I could tell Lilliana was helping me to speak with authority. I mean she was part of the Moon Goddess, so she did have the authority.
Both the guys looked at one another with eyebrows lifted. I wondered what that look meant, and I was glad we came prepared.
“Alright. The King does not normally see people. Let me give a call over to the castle and see what he says. Who are you?”
“I am the Golden Wolf.” Again, I stated it with as much authority I could muster, and both the guards gave the same look. I looked over at Clay.
“I do not like the look that they are giving to one another.” I mind linked to Clay.
“Me neither. It is certainly suspicious. We need to go in with our guard up.” Clay looked over at them.
They were coming back out after speaking on the phone.
“Turns out the king is expecting you.” The big guy said and then began to open the gates. We all started to walk in, and he stopped Izzy and Rose who were right behind me. “He only wants to see you. Your friends stay here.”
“Eh, no.” Clay said in a commanding Alpha voice that I had not yet heard. “If the King wishes to hear from the golden wolf, then he must deal with all of us.” I had never heard Clay use his Alpha voice. Rose had told me that as an Alpha, he had a commanding voice in which members of his pack would not be able to say no to him. His father had always used it for good. I believe Clay would be very similar to his father.
“Fine, we will call again.” Carrottop said and headed over to the phone. This time I listened carefully to the conversation.
“Yea, they won’t let her come in by herself.” Carrottop stated.
“Yes, sir. I understand. But how do we get her if he won’t let her come?” At this moment I realized they wanted me alone without Clay. They had indeed made some sort of plan and Clay was not included in it.
“But sir, he is an Alpha and her mate.” I hear faint yelling on the other line. I could not make it out, but Carrottop seemed to shutter at the sound. He headed back out to us, and we all stared at him.
“The King says the two of you may go in.” Carrottop answered. I did not like this one bit.
“What about our friends?” I asked.
“They will stay here at the gate with us during your visit.” Carrottop answered. I did not love the way that they looked over at my friends. Especially Izzy. This had been one of our plans. If they had something up their sleeve, they would try to sperate us. It was first by the portal, but Izzy had realized that. Now, it was by who got past the gate.
“Izzy we have to go with plan B.” I looked over at her. She nodded and both the guards looked at her even closer.
“Sorry boys.” And she looked them in the eyes, instantly she told them to open the gate and they let us all in. Izzy had been working on some simple magic spells that would help us. One was hypnosis. The other we would have to use was her power to shield the gang in an invisible force. This way they could go in with us, but no one would see them.
“Well, that was a bit easier than planned. However, I have no clue how long it will be before they realize what we did to them.” Izzy wiped her hands and we all picked up our speed a bit more so that we would get to the entrance of the castle before the guards realized what had happened.
When we got to the castle it was amazing how large it really was. I looked at Clay in awe of the massiveness.
“Makes sense.” Said George aloud. We all looked at him questioning what he said. “Well, they are dragons, I did not expect them to be small.” He answered with a shrug and he certainly had a point.
“Alright Izzy now is the time. You all have to go invisible.” Instantly my friends all disappeared from my eyes. I could still smell them, and I just hoped that the Dragon King would not be able to smell them.
We entered through the huge doors that opened for us upon approach. The moment we walked in a voice boomed, “Welcome Golden Wolf. You have certainly taken your time arriving.” I looked over and in front of me stood the tallest dragon I had ever imagined. George’s words relayed in my mind.
